I'm three worlds into the game, and this is wonderful! The Kirby formula translates wonderfully to 3D!

Still have to wait on the delivery since. I don't think the replay value will be too high to warrent a digital purchase.
Next problem will be what to do with my expiring voucher when Advance Wars is further delayed =)

I got my copy yesterday, and played for way too long... I'm on World
6
right now, and it's quickly becoming my favorite Kirby game. Love it!

Just booted it up! Going to casually make my way through the stages that were in the demo while eating breakfast and whatnot. Then deep dive into it once I’m back home.

The opening scene is so cute. I love when Kirby’s eyes go O.O

I am really, really enjoying this game. There’s just something extra special about coming off of games like Horizon: Forbidden West, Elden Ring, and Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope (the last three games I played) and sitting down to a nice, friendly game that’s not only fun and exciting to play, but also relaxing and comforting. This is what Nintendo is all about and no one does it better.

I haven't tried this myself, but Nintendo Japan shared two "present codes" that you can use at the Waddle Dee Delivery after it is open in the Waddle Dee Town.

  • "GAMENEWS" gives you 1 Rare Stone (for evolving Kirby's copy ability)
  • "MOUTHFULMODE" gives you 100 Star Coins and 1 car cake (this keyword will expire on 4/25)
  • These codes are case sensitive, and require internet connection to verify
  • More present codes will be shared in the future via Twitter and the Switch News Channel
Edit: There are two present codes that you can obtain from completing the demo, which I won't spoil here.

I really need to stop thinking that with multiple Target stores within 20-25 minutes of my apartment that I can just order a game the day of release and pick it up after work. Just checked Target's site and they're sold out of Kirb :( I guess I'll have to check Gamestop and resign myself to pressing my face up against the glass and live vicariously through everyone in this thread for the weekend if I have to resort to Amazon.

  • A brand new gimmick that expands on one of Kirby's traditional abilities (Hypernova for the inhale vs the Robobot Armor for the Copy Abilities)
The Robobot Armor isn't even doing anything new actually! The same concept of helper things that alter your Copy Abilities was the central mechanic in Dream Land 2 (and 3). Which probably explains why there's some homages to Dream Land 2 in Robobot.

That 80s anime intro is wonderful - glad they didn't put that in the demo.
I hit that right when I was feeling like I had spoiled myself with the demo on my initial impressions and it couldn’t have been more perfect

Was going to play this in coop with my nine year old who thinks it is “the cutest thing ever” but when we tried the demo she was insistent she would be Kirby! As a result, I’ll play it myself but also in coop with her so I don’t miss out on being Kirby.

Love the missions for each level, I’ve been back to the 4th level 3 times already and still missing a Waddledee! This is going to be a trip 🙂

Navigation tip (apologies if it has been mentioned already): When using the main overworld hub to navigate between places, pressing any shoulder button will move Kirby much faster.

Right, I kinda forgot about them. Probably because the Robobot Armor is...a way better implementation of the concept, honestly? My issue with the Animal Buddies (and the Dark Matter trilogy in general) is that each individual copy ability feels pretty limited. Each has just a single move or two, and then you merge with a Animal Buddy to get...another single move - occasionally just a different copy ability that didn't make the cut. It feels like a compromise, like, "Hey, we got a bunch of combinations! But each can only do, like, one thing?" The Super Star route of abilities with more interesting move sets fits my preference more.

So you gimme the Robobot, which have more interesting move sets overall and are decently integrated into the level design, and you give me Kirby's regular copy abilities with no compromises? Yeah, a lot better. I don't love Star Allies, but it's implementation of the original three Animal Buddies is where I really started to enjoy using them.

I just bought Rune Factory 5 and Tiny Tina and Elden Ring so I was planning to wait on this but it’s so hard to do lol!!!
Graphics remind me of Mario 3D World in the best ways. How long is this game? Like Mario Odyssey level or super short?

As a heads up there are hidden Treasure Road stages on the overworld you can find by investigating suspicious locations there

Just 100 percented worlds 1 and 2, getting the target time on Treasure Roads was rough, especially the hidden ones

Just got 100 percent on World 3, loving it so far. Doing all these challenge roads under target time has been a real challenge, also some of the car segments in 3-2 were surprisingly tight timing wise. A lot of well hidden secrets, especially some of the ability blueprints

How do most people play games like this?

A: replay each stage until you complete all the missions
B: get through the story and revisit stages after completing the game
A mix of both really, sometimes I'll immediately replay a stage if I thought it was fun/want to grab some more collectibles but usually I just beat them once then clean up near the end.

I very rarely 100% games like this though.

One thorough play through of each level until the final boss & then revisit for whatever I've missed before completing the game

With world based games like this I try to do everything within a specific world before moving on.

There is certainly a drive to complete properly as you progress or you're leaving the poor waddle dees hanging.

I found the most important button, which is D-pad Up to say hi in Waddle Dee Town.

I don't think the game is actually too easy. It's certainly not hard, but it falls into that category of Easy to Learn, (somewhat) Difficult to Master.

Big downside though is no gyro for the ranger.

Finished the first area. This game is going to rival Epic Yarn and Planet Robobot for the best game in the Kirby franchise. So good.

Also, this tribute to Kirby was posted by Arlo today. It is amazing!

B, I can't think of any game where I tried to go for 100% on a first playthrough.

Opening sequence of the game felt like an anime. The theme song and everything.

Just played up through world 2. Having a lot of fun.

My takeaway so far is that in a lot of ways this is HAL learning how to design a 3D platformer, so the actual levels can seem a bit simplistic and straightforward... on paper. However, where the game really shines is everything surrounding it. The Mouthful Mode segments, the power-up trials, the boss battles, the puzzles, it's actually quite rewarding to try to figure all that out going through the levels, and the boss battles feel like PG-rated Platinum Games-style boss fights, in all the best ways possible. Sometimes they genuinely surprise me like the flying section in world 2. Some of the ways they translate certain power-ups to 3D like Needle are also a blast. Looking forward to more as I play and if they iterate on this style going forward I'll be very happy.

Music is definitely a standout, gonna probably listen to the whole OST once I beat the game.

Suffice it to say, after these horrendous controls I am not a fan of Kar-by anymore. Tis’ a sad day.

I can’t play it until later tonight. The pain—it huuuuurts!

I need to play with mah pink boi! 😭

Just finished world 1 and I'm having a lot of fun. Playing in co-op and switching off each stage between the characters. Kirby remains the cutest thing in existence.

OMG Kirby with his adorable little inflatable ring, just kicking his itty bitty feets to get across the water like...

This game is good ya'll.

Just realized this game is too fun to play at home. Need to save it for my traveling next month

Charm and polish all around, god damn

These challenge levels are extremely fun. Wonder if there's a secret bonus for getting the target times?

My favourite thing about this is when you throw bombs when in the water they have a little inflatable ring around them too.

Big thank you to whoever mentioned Best Buy earlier in the thread. That made me remember that there were several BBs in the area and I was able to pick up a copy after work. There shall be poyo this weekend! :D

I think it's hard to fault Dream Land 2 for featuring a simpler control scheme since it predates Super Star (although no doubt there was probably some overlap in development), and coming from Adventure the whole "3 animal companions that alter the copy abilities in different ways" mechanic was quite novel. At the time. I think it also clicks very well with the more puzzly nature of Dream Land 2 since it wasn't just a matter of getting a specific copy ability to certain points of a level, but you often had to bring the right companion too, especially if you wanted to collect all the rainbow drops. Which is probably why they retained this for Dream Land 3 despite Super Star already being out.

It's also possible there was a difference in creative visions between Sakurai and Shinichi Shimomura, with the former wanting to move the series in a more complicated and brawler esque direction (which would lead directly into Smash Bros.) while the latter preferred the simpler control scheme mixed with a more puzzly gameplay.

The music in general is just very top notch.
Nintendo's music department has been knocking it out of the park since the Wii U. I know this isn't an EPD production but I'd like to think the live bands for 3D World and Mario Kart 8 led the way. And that's without bringing Splatoon up.

This soundtrack is awesome! Kirby music is always great and this is no exception, though the higher fidelity compared to the recent handheld entries really makes it shine all the more brilliantly.

Between this game and Triangle Strategy, I’m being absolutely spoiled by VGM right now.

I am thoroughly enjoying my time with this game, but there is one glaring issue… why are the enemies so freaking adorable?! I’m tossing bombs at sleeping puppies, and crushing sea turtles with a hammer on the beach. 😭

Yeah this is a great game. Somehow it is the same Kirby but in 3d, but with 3d the level design really shines. This might be the best Kirby game. Probably is. Haven't played enough to tell for sure.
