Bought it digitally just now. Looking forward to trying it this evening!
The Robobot Armor isn't even doing anything new actually! The same concept of helper things that alter your Copy Abilities was the central mechanic in Dream Land 2 (and 3). Which probably explains why there's some homages to Dream Land 2 in Robobot.
- A brand new gimmick that expands on one of Kirby's traditional abilities (Hypernova for the inhale vs the Robobot Armor for the Copy Abilities)
Earth shattering lore development for the Kirby universeHe waits for the ducks to cross the street when in car mode. Best boy.
I hit that right when I was feeling like I had spoiled myself with the demo on my initial impressions and it couldn’t have been more perfectThat 80s anime intro is wonderful - glad they didn't put that in the demo.
Right, I kinda forgot about them. Probably because the Robobot Armor is...a way better implementation of the concept, honestly? My issue with the Animal Buddies (and the Dark Matter trilogy in general) is that each individual copy ability feels pretty limited. Each has just a single move or two, and then you merge with a Animal Buddy to get...another single move - occasionally just a different copy ability that didn't make the cut. It feels like a compromise, like, "Hey, we got a bunch of combinations! But each can only do, like, one thing?" The Super Star route of abilities with more interesting move sets fits my preference more. The Robobot Armor isn't even doing anything new actually! A mix of both really, sometimes I'll immediately replay a stage if I thought it was fun/want to grab some more collectibles but usually I just beat them once then clean up near the end.How do most people play games like this?
A: replay each stage until you complete all the missions
B: get through the story and revisit stages after completing the game

OMG Kirby with his adorable little inflatable ring, just kicking his itty bitty feets to get across the water like...
This game is good ya'll.
I think it's hard to fault Dream Land 2 for featuring a simpler control scheme since it predates Super Star (although no doubt there was probably some overlap in development), and coming from Adventure the whole "3 animal companions that alter the copy abilities in different ways" mechanic was quite novel. At the time. I think it also clicks very well with the more puzzly nature of Dream Land 2 since it wasn't just a matter of getting a specific copy ability to certain points of a level, but you often had to bring the right companion too, especially if you wanted to collect all the rainbow drops. Which is probably why they retained this for Dream Land 3 despite Super Star already being out.Right, I kinda forgot about them. Nintendo's music department has been knocking it out of the park since the Wii U. I know this isn't an EPD production but I'd like to think the live bands for 3D World and Mario Kart 8 led the way. And that's without bringing Splatoon up.The music in general is just very top notch.
