Also, now that the DLC is starting to come out, I wanted to thank everyone that has posted in the ST so far! This thread has been pretty popular in the week before release. We're over 400 post large, bigger than a lot of other FamiBoards STs and threads. And with the DLC releasing throughout 2023, the fun is just getting started!

See you on the racetrack!

Acorn Cup has one Tour and two untagged, I don't think untagged necessarily corresponds to Tour original. Maybe it includes planned courses that aren't present in Tour datamines because they're not far enough along?

Nice to see 6 Wii courses in that count, at least. That would include all of the Wii courses found in Tour's datamine, all of which deserve to show up.

I feel gravity mechanics have to return just so they can have MK8 retro tracks.
That’s assuming retro tracks are a thing considering almost all of them will be in this game by the end of it. I wonder if they’ll just have 40 or so original tracks in the next one since it’ll have been around a decade since 8 first released anyway.

Played through Golden Dash cup in 150cc GP. This is every bit as fun as I had expected.

Also the people saying these are direct Tour ports are absolutely blind. Or maybe I spent too much time playing Tour and notice these things, but the texture work here is impressive, massive upgrade over Tour.

Also yes, they seem to come with staff ghosts!

Played through all tracks. My impressions:
  • the original Mario Kart Tour tracks are clearlyyyyyy the highlight!
  • Sky Garden is disappointing both sound and gameplay wise (that remix is so awful, i prefer the Tour version)
  • Shroom Ridge is too narrow (like most non-Tour tracks)
  • Coconut Mall looks nice in some places and in other places really ugly
  • the non-Tour tracks are „boring“ since there is not a lot going on on the tracks

But overall pretty positive and graphically its better than expected

Question: Did the item balancing change or is it always so crazy in Grand Prix? In every round there were 2 spinys and i always had triple bananas on 1st place

We’ve got major leaks! They accidentally left behind the origin game for every track.

Considering with the full DLC the vast majority of stages from the series will be present, I don't feel like this tells us very much. "Oh hey... a bunch from every game."

If there will be 15 Tour tracks in this DLC that would be really swell.

They might as well be 15 new tracks and that is basically what a theoretical MK9 would have (and with double the remastered tracks). I also really liked what I heard from the music.

Had a quick blast through the new cups. The Tokyo and Paris levels are nice to look at, but pretty dull to drive on, very flat. Shroom Ridge is fantastic, and Coconut Mall mall is a real nostalgia hit. The absolute stand out is the ninja course from Tour though, music, graphics and layout are all on another level, this one feels like it would be at home in Mario Kart 10.

Not a fan of the tour tracks outside of the Ninja Hideaway one, that one is very good. The retro courses are decent if not a bit simple. Not any big hits for me but they'll add some nice variety to online play.

Just bought the Pass and got it downloaded. My copy of the game should show up tomorrow, so hopefully I'll be able to play this weekend.

I hope one or two of those unknowns are 64 tracks, just 2 for the whole expansion is too little.

My most wanted map for the dlc pass is Mushroom City. I never played Double Dash but this map never came back and I hope it does this time. I'd be so excited...

Ah, I see. Atm these tracks are Merry Mountain and Ninja Hideaway, right? According to Mario Wiki, they don't have multiple versions, so perhaps they were design with the DLC in mind?
it's entirely possible, if not likely. ninja hideaway is a real odd standout among the tour tracks in the amount of routes and general verticality of it that it really doesn't fit with the rest of the game. merry mountain is a lot simpler by comparison, but it's still notable for not having a bunch of obvious variations built into the geometry like the city tracks do

i wouldn't be too surprised if a some tour-original courses were envisioned as a potential set of DLC for 8 first, before they decided they could pull double duty with them

I feel like that Wii U tablet looking into the window from the outside in the rain. Let me in Nintendo lol

My brain is to slow for 200cc
200cc is not that hard. You just need to learn how to brake (using the B button). The difficult part is to brake on purpose, because we have been playing decades of Mario Kart without needing to brake. You need to drift while braking.

Once your brain accepts that change, everything clicks.

Hmm I‘m not so sure.

There are some design flaws in the ported ninja track like the stairs at the beginning being way to big because the cars are smaller now and the same low poly models and scaled track+geometry like in the other courses. I doubt that would have happened if they were planing to include it into MK8 from start.

However I do think that this track shows a glimpse to a potential future of courses in a next Mariokart game structured more like levels.

I know. But it is almost always to late.

i'm not saying that the final version we got was what was hypothetically intended to show up in 8, just that it shows a level of complexity that none of the other courses originating from tour have, so it's not that big a stretch to think it was originally designed for another title. what we've got now is definitely tailored for the mobile game, but still stands out among everything else that's come out alongside it

Two up from Luigi’s left hand (far right in the picture) in Mondo’s picture looks like a Super NES Mario Circuit.

The one by Luigi’s hat and Toad’s wheel looks like either Vanilla Lake or Sherbet Land.

Shit; a bunch of tracks are leaked here.

I think that ice one is DK pass, looks like that half pipe section

And i thiiiiink that's Waluigi Pinball between Luigi and peach

Edit: i meant DK summit there

the very last one in the center is Sherbet Land 64 I believe (maybe I'm getting overanalytical)
