PlayStation Sony State of Play announced for March 9th, 2022 2 PM PST / 5 PM EST / 11 PM CET "Focusing on Japanese Developers" ~20 minutes

all i want is armored core 6, enough of the frigging souls games for a bit

Same, but I'm hoping for something closer to 4/4A. My best guess is that if Miyazaki is helming it again, it would be a reasonable expectation

Imagine if a Dragon's Dogma sequel gets announced today.

Imagine.

Oh, don't I WISH.

After DMC5, Itsuno and his team should be ready to show up and show out when it comes to DD2. And considering how much was left on the cutting room floor for the first game, the sky's the limit!

I will pretend I do not see Dragon's Dogma 2 speculation and keep my hype down.

The SOP of my dreams ain't coming, but at least I won't have to look at any Naughty Dog games.

Unfortunately I can't say I agree. I enjoyed them both alright but they are pretty mediocre games imo. That said it's a shame that kind of output from Sony is probably dead for good
totally fair; I will always by the type of player to prefer Sony's weirder output to their prestige/open world stuff, and them seemingly moving away from that entirely is a bummer

also, Nier 3 as yet another Sony timed exclusive sounds real shitty. FFXVI is bad enough

I wouldn’t say I like it better, but I do miss the output. The PS1/2/3, PSP, Vita etc… all got a ton of good Japanese output both from Sony and 3rd parties. I miss having shit like Freedom Wars or Gravity Rush to go along with Western shit like MLB and Uncharted.

It rounded out the library more IMO, and it helped differentiate the PlayStation from Xbox which I feel isn’t the case anymore.

Expectations are pretty low for State of Plays but we'll see.

Obviously the dream is Final Fantasy XVI but that feels like a headliner of a special showcase, not something lower key like this. I'd also like to see what Team Asobi is up to, they've created two pretty special Astrobot games and I think given free reign they could push out a GOTY-calibre platformer.

Outside of Japanese stuff, I really want to see release dates on Stray and Tchia.

PS/PC at launch is probably a given at this point, given it took a year or so for Automata to end up on XB, and the vast majority of sales of NieR are on PS, I would say it is inevitable. Hopefully it gets given more budget now NieR is a known quantity and seen as a key franchise by SE

At first I read this as "Oh, I don't WISH", and thought you were referring to
the Capcom links that prove Dragon's Dogma 2 is probably already a thing (at least, that Capcom had it in production/pre-production back when they listed it as an upcoming release internally)

I honestly feel like it's likely to show up in the next year or so, just no idea. Also, I hope it releases in a non-Monster Hunter year to be honest. If it releases this year, at least space it out from the Sunbreak expansion.

I don't know exactly what I want from this, other than FF16, which I'm not sure will happen yet. But it focusing on Japanese developers is a very good sign. Maybe Sony will actually admit that JRPGs (or really any RPGs) exist? Is it time?

This being only 20 mins and being announced a day before is keeping my expectations real low but I'd like to be pleasantly surprised.

Yo, I forgot one more thing that I would love to see: an Ape Escape remake. I assume that would come before any new game. Give me Ape Escape 2 remake, please.

So yeah, hoping for:

  • Tokyo Jungle port/remake
  • Ape Escape remake
  • New Everybody's Golf
  • New Astro game that builds on the mechanics in Astro's Playroom

Any one of those, and this SoP will surpass my expectations.

Okay, take your bets people: who's gonna be State of Play's Blorkby?

Spike, dammit.

Spike.

Or Robbit.

PS1 games do not get nearly enough love in the modern era on Sony consoles. I'm not even a massive fan of the PlayStation brand historically - I had a PS1 and then didn't have another Sony console until Vita and PS4 - but they have some damn gems on PS1 that need remakes.

I'm calling out Square-Enix on this, too. The Parasite Eve IP can't cost that much; purchase it for a PE remake. Give me Einhander. Give me Brave Fencer Musashi. Give me Bushido Blade Collection remake.

Japanese games peaked between about 1995 and 2001, IMO, but too much of that stuff is hard to come by in 2022. This also goes for Capcom's SNES, Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast output. They have a lot of good-to-great games that need more love. At least Capcom is doing more collections and has the arcade stadium thing.

I would love anything Parasite Eve related. That'd make my week.

That's how they bring back DC? Well at least they remember it exists even if I have zero interest in this new direction.

Disappointing lack of Sinatra in the SoP trailer. I was hoping for 'It Was a Very Good Year'.

Really thought that was Dino Crisis. Also I like the look of Ghostwire but going by past Bethesda titles it'll be half price real quick so I'll wait

My doctor says my blood pressure can't take more Returnal. Sorry Housemarque. Sorry Sony.

At this point this has been by far the most interesting SoP for me. They generally been kinda boring imo but this one has some pretty cool announcements.

Thought I hit edit quickly enough. What a brain freeze.

DAMMIT
It's cool. And it worked because of the joke that everyone mixes up the two of them.

I had absolutely no expectations for this SoP, so this ended up being good just because I'm getting TMNT Cowabunga Collection day one.

It even has the GB game (Fall of the Foot Clan) that isn't very good, but that I played the hell out of back in the day.

Total nostalgia bomb for me.

OH FUCK ME A NEW VALKYRIE GAME!!!!

Edit: actually I don't know how I feel about the full-on action gameplay. Hopefully it will be good but damn I'm gonna miss the battle system of the original.

Diofield Chronicle looks not too bad imo. Also, Valkyrie Elysium is interesting.

This SoP wasn't the worst If you ask me.

Idk even if I like some SRPGs and JRPGs that was pretty weak overall. MS probably throwing a party after seeing that.

I knew it was a red flag when they showed off Turtles yet again.

Also guess that Harry Potter leak was false.

The color grading for the new Valkyrie game and the not FF Tactics game looked way too similar to me.

I'll drink that Valkyrie down with a side of Turtles In Time. Oh yeah.

Also I still can't tell if Ghostwire looks good or not. I usually have a pretty good sense for this kind of thing, but I got nothing.
