PlayStation Sony State of Play announced for March 9th, 2022 2 PM PST / 5 PM EST / 11 PM CET "Focusing on Japanese Developers" ~20 minutes

I know there's never really been a great state of play, but focusing on Japanese games in particular does make me more interested. Hopefully it's not just FFXVI, though, and also includes stuff from other franchises.

I’m expecting something major. Or at least go make the enthusiastic forums happy.

Haven’t seen a single state of Play tho. But there hasn’t been a standout one so far from what everyone tells me. I’m betting this is the one

I care about whatever Team Asobi is doing and if we finally get a damned Tokyo Jungle port, but that's about it. Well, whatever Clap Hanz is up to as well, I suppose. I am way more interested in Western devs in general and Sony's Western devs specifically.

The last good SoP was the one with the Horizon Forbidden West announcement, but outside of a couple of Indie Worlds, Nintendo hasn't exactly been lighting it up with Directs lately, either. It's this never-ending pandemic, is what it is.

With how much Sony pretty much abandoned the Japanese market I‘m kind of surprised they’re doing a Japanese developer focused presentation. Unless it’s only going to be developers that are big in the west, like Capcom

I get why people feel some kind of way about GR, though. It's visually appealing, has interesting character design, and of course the gameplay looks like it should be fun.

Hey, I bought the Kat DLC for both HSG: World Invitational and PSASBR, so I do understand.

I do think it's a shame that she's probably headed to the dustbin, though. Sony needs to get a Sony-brand kart racer or arcade sports game going or take another shot at Playstation All-Stars or something just so we can give Kat (and Spike, and Robbit, etc.) a little bit of love in at least one game.

gravity rush owns and is better than any first party sony game put out in the last six years
 
I'm gonna guess we'll see stuff like SF6 and FF16. Maybe also a highlight for Soul Hackers 2. Will be a fun enough time for me

20 minutes + no VR news means I’ll catch the highlights later. I very much doubt FF16 will be there..

afaik Ueda is an Epic Games thing, so I feel like they would do that at their own thing somewhere given hes one of their big first investments

There's speculation that Sony's locked up Nier 3 so I wouldn't be shocked to see that there. I'll probably do what I did with Automata, buy it for PlayStation and never play it and then pick it up on Xbox when the exclusivity ends and love it.
 
Nier 3 is gonna be made in house if I recall. That will be interesting to see.

And I’ll probably play the first 2 games one day. Have Automata after a Black Friday sale. 10 bucks seemed worth it.

I'm going to be cautiously optimistic for FF16 and Nier 3 being shown tomorrow. I love the Nier games, 3 getting revealed would have me over the moon. I didn't know there were any rumors going around about it. I would love it if Yoko Taro makes Nier 3 as different to Automata as Automata was to Replicant/Gestalt.

Is any Dragon Quest stuff likely?
 
If we're doing petitions, I am once again asking Yoko Taro for a new game that runs like garbage to drone out to, featuring both dragons and gender

Any DQ games seem unlikely, DQ 12 seems at least 2-3 years away from the time Horii talked about it and DQ 3 is also unlikely , if the pattern holds, HD-2D games have come to Switch first and Live A Live is this summer, that team wouldn't want to draw attention away from it .

Yea, I figured the DQ3 remake would be saved for a Nintendo Direct, but I didn't know if there was any hope for DQX Offline getting a release outside Japan. Seems like the main reason for making an offline version was to make some version of the game available worldwide so it would be weird to me if didn't.
 
I've read a lot of hope for Shin Megami Tensei V getting ported but I think it's much too soon for that. And my head-canon is that it'll launch day one on Xbox Game Pass at the same time it comes to PlayStation and PC so Microsoft will get the announcement.

I agree, since DQX is a Wii game, hard to believe, having an offline version makes it perfect for a WW release. Fingers cross it comes.

Let’s hope SE doesn’t screw up the PC release and then never fix it till the Gamepass release which still has some of the issues as the PC release leading to modders doing it for them because in their infinite wisdom SE doesn’t care about fixing their game

This is going to be a bunch of announcements made WAY too early because SIE hasn't been enjoying the bad press and discourse around their business position in Japan, both from consumers and Japanese developers, so they've got something to prove. That's all this is. Whether or not they succeed at proving their point will depend on tomorrow's showing.

There wasn't even a hint of anything at the recent livestream where they announced the Automata anime, so I wouldn't expect anything NieR here

I might try and check this out.

But I have absolutely zero faith in nothing being shown except the usual stuff that would fit in with Sony's newfound aesthetic preferences.

Turrican IV: Rise of The Machine by M2, with Yuzo Koshiro and Chris Huelsbeck at the soundtrack (they both know and like each other works ; especially since Chris did a track inspired by Ys III in Jim Power, years later, Yuzo did an orchestral version of Jim Power’s main theme).
