Well, going from Skyward Sword to Breath of the Wild was a big jump and it took the team 5 years. They could totally reiterate especially when they know they have to carry on Botw's legacy, they can't do a simple sequel.I want this to be the case. But my on cynicism makes me thinks it's not going to be as big of a jump as we're all hoping
I'm trying to save money these next few months for itI'm already figuring out how to afford all of these games, Not sure if I'm able to drop another $350~$400 on a hardware revision lol.
Not farming, hunting. So that's your game Skittzo? Farming Yeah's?

Switch truly is the weeb consoleTFW you realize Nintendo could have 8 exclusive RPGs on Switch this year...
The Ukraine situation sucks and we all hope it gets resolved soon, but frankly there's not much we can do about it. Send some money or goods their way, then look out for your own health. That's the best thing to do.Apologies for not posting much recently - this Ukraine situation has me in tatters. Just had one of the biggest panic attacks of my life (probably the biggest) cause of it - the sheer terror I have of what might happen, and what is happening, are just too much. It's taking enough of my mental energy to just play some goddamn Elden Ring, let alone make funny/insightful posts for an internet board
living around the corner from the pentagon during a nuclear high alert has got my shit all fucked up. “Also, I think today’s games are too often asking players to be completely passive entities. They reward your progress with event cutscenes, and it sort of becomes like, ‘Hey, you wanna see the next awesome movie we made, right? then go do this!’ The player ends up feeling like the developers’ little errand boy. I don’t want to make games like that. I want the player to be able to find his own way to enjoy the game.
“I realise that puts a certain demand on players. However, if the industry continues down the path we’re on now, where games are simply about collecting rewards, and gameplay itself becomes stale and formulaic, and the important thing is not having any mistakes or flaws in your game… if we go down that path, there will be no end to it, and games will ultimately all become the same—and very boring.
“Let us therefore sing the praises of the new and the different. (laughs) You know, whenever I talk to games journalists, I always talk about this. But I think it’s a critical issue for the gaming industry.”
I Iwata and I don’t necessarily disagree with him but that has a strong whiff of Yamauchi’s “RPGs are for friendless basement dwellers” diss at the PS1 library. Which you know… Nintendo totally cultivated on the NES & SNES.Satoru Iwata had this to say in 1999

Yep. AAA industry has always tried too hard to emulate Hollywood when gaming and movies are totally different media and should be treated as such.Satoru Iwata had this to say in 1999

Yup, my mind immediately went to Square's games as well, which are much better at this than they used to.Tbf, when I read that "errand boy" part it does remind more of gaming in 1999 than now. The PS2 generation was full of busywork games with lots of tedious gameplay sections and fetchquests. As much as I like the Square Enix games from that era, doing boring stuff to get to see the next movie does sound familiar when I think of them.
I think games today respect your time much more and give you many options to approach things that aren't necessarily how the devs intended. We are also seeing a lot of gameplay innovation that wasn't possible with past hardware. Or maybe that's because of the types of games I'm exposed to, but that's how I feel anyway.
Yea, there’s a bit of a shift when games went to 3D. Like JRPGs went from feeling like stage plays to movies in the way things were structured and framed. And not just in the cutscenes.Yep. AAA industry has always tried too hard to emulate Hollywood when gaming and movies are totally different media and should be treated as such.
Blade is easily my favoruite Heisei Phase 1 show. It's SOOOO weird and textural and genuinely really really interesting and good. It's about where Rider's mid-aughts J-Drama to Sci-Fi-Hero transition was at it's perfect 50/50 equilibrium and it creates a really interesting feeling to the show. Cannot recommend it enough even if the first dozen or so episodes are a bit rough.@Derachi I just finished Kamen Rider Blade and that ending sent a dagger through my chest
(last time I tag you about toku nonsense I promise)
(maybe)
Legend of Zelda: Link’s Lawnmower ServiceI feel like every generation (or rather "phase") has its own game design sins and it's not like Nintendo has never released games with shallow busywork lmao
Or as I like to call it, Animal Crossing.I feel like every generation (or rather "phase") has its own game design sins and it's not like Nintendo has never released games with shallow busywork lmao
Depends on the game but the modern licensed ones definitely fall under action rpgs. Least it makes more sense on your list than advance warsAre warriors games commonly considered RPGs? I always thought they were considered action games, although they have character leveling up and strategy elements that I could see it counting.
lmao I'd rather not get into thisOr as I like to call it, Animal Crossing.
GOOD MORNING!!!! It's Monday! Let's do some POSTING.

That topic was covered so much that the thread got a visit:is "pokemon is certainly november therefore botw2 delayed" a topic we've covered? I wasn't here yesterday
I’m working out how to afford PSVR2. A new Switch will just have to wait!I'm already figuring out how to afford all of these games, Not sure if I'm able to drop another $350~$400 on a hardware revision lol.
There's a whole thread about how Zelda is delayed because Pokemon is coming and because Elden Ring is great.is "pokemon is certainly november therefore botw2 delayed" a topic we've covered? I wasn't here yesterday

I'm 100% OK with people thinking Zelda won't launch this year, but I'm not going to lie: I'm also completely sick of how any and all developments in gaming mean that Zelda is delayed. It's been like this within days of Nintendo setting a 2022 date.lol
for the record I think botw 2 is March 2023 but I think it was that regardless of pokemon
I should clarify I'm like 66% confident it's not this year. It totally could be, but in my mind they've got enough going on in 2022 already that the grandslam of BOTW2 just isn't needed. They sit on finished games all the time. Not to mention BOTW2 is a game-likers' game, that does not need black friday/holiday shopping rush to sell a butt-ton of copies. It's a game that can come out in March and still sell incredibly well because the people that buy Zelda games buy games all year round. They go to Zelda, they do not need Zelda to go to them.I'm 100% OK with people thinking Zelda won't launch this year, but I'm not going to lie: I'm also completely sick of how any and all developments in gaming mean that Zelda is delayed. I'm glad I have zero interest in VR. That saves me big time.I’m working out how to afford PSVR2. A new Switch will just have to wait!
The trick is to stop calling it a Switch Pro and just call it a Future Nintendo Gaming Console. If I keep talking as if a Switch Pro is coming then it HAS to come eventually right????!?!?! Right?!?!?!?!
