I dont have a Twitter account so I'll share my best Mario Kart story here.

My all time favorite MK moment for me was playing MK8 on Wii U with my best friend at our college dorm. I was winning so many races that he was starting to get annoyed, so it all comes down to our last race on Royal Raceway which had tensions high and we were both super competitive.

It's the 3rd lap, I'm in 1st and I turn by the castle for the last leg of the race. My friend just destroys me with shells and I get knocked down to 3rd while he takes 1st and I fall into despair.

Then the most amazing thing happens. The COM in 2nd place, Baby Daisy, hits him with shells giving me the last second opportunity to pass him. Then Baby Daisy is in first but hits a banana peel in the middle of the dang road !RIGHT! before the finish line. In a clutch moment it gives me enough time to end up in 1st, Baby Daisy in 2nd, and my friend in 3rd. We were both laughing and hysterical that the COM came to my aid and handed the race back to me. From then on Baby Daisy has become a meme character to us whenever she's controlled by a computer in a race.

My best MK story can't fit in a tweet so I'll share it here too.

Me and my brother and some of our friends used to do what we would call a Supercup, in Mario Kart Double Dash. Basically it required two Gamecubes and two LAN adapters, which let us play with up to 8 players, though it was usually just 6 of us. Then we'd do an All-Cup, i.e. play every course in the game in order. Then figure out who won by tallying everyone's first through sixth place finishes, usually with the aid of a spreadsheet because Double Dash didn't actually keep those records in LAN play for some odd reason.

So in one of these Supercups, we were on Waluigi Stadium and had probably the most insane finish I've experienced in a Mario Kart game. I can't remember exactly how many of us were left but I think it was 3-4 of us making the final turn towards the last jump which was right before the finish line. It was fairly close and someone somehow ended up with a Spiked Shell and just decided to use it to create lovely chaos (maybe it was me, it's something I would've done). Well, since we were all kinda tightly packed it didn't take too long for the spike to hit someone and it did so right on the ramp to the finish line.

One or two of us either missed the blast or managed to spin out and still get the boost, so there were only two of us remaining, me and one other guy. I think I got the brunt of the spike so I wound up getting knocked into the air and then falling onto the booster only to be shot off in a very weird direction and fall into the pit, which would then get Lakitu to bring you back. My friend I think spun out and that made him boost in a weird direction so he also fell off into the pit.

So here's the crazy part- neither of us were looking at each other's screens. So when this happened my friend stood up and screamed, and in so doing knocked down a CD tower that was to the right of his chair. So it fell onto like 3 of us, and while it wasn't exactly heavy it still kinda hurt and CDs on it flew everywhere. So everyone laughed and then started picking up the tower and CDs to help. I kid you not, it was like 4 minutes later before any of us looked at the screen and realized the race was still on! Neither of us had finished, we were both sitting side by side right next to the booster where Lakitu put us. So as soon as I saw that I burst out laughing and started fishing around through the pile of CDs to find my controller so I could beat him. Sure enough, I did.

We all had a very good laugh about that.

Mainline FE in October could be cool, although I'm not sure if that would be enough time for marketing after its reveal (assuming June/E3?) so maybe December? Bayo 3 and FE would be really cool to see in the same month too lol.

Interesting to hear that this game has apparently been in development by IS for over 3 years too... I guess this means they started development prior to 3H releasing?

I consider getting it on the e-shop sale just because it's so darn cheap - how is it?
I remember it being quite rough early on but they patched it a bit I believe - fully playable or is it a bit rough still?
It’s playable. Not great visually, but wasn’t expecting that. They have improved some textures and frame rate isn’t too bad, but is uncapped so can go wherever depending on what’s happening. I don’t personally mind this sort of thing with turn based games because it doesn’t really affect the game play. Load times are also quite long (minute plus). If you like tactical RPGs then this is one of the best and has a ton of content. File size is about 25 GB or so though.

I think the question Nintendo asks here might not be "Does a new Fire Emblem get in the way of FE Warriors?" I think it's instead "Does a new Fire Emblem get in the way of Advance Wars and Triangle Strategy?"

If the answer is no and the game is ready in time, then sure, let it release.
Well Advance Wars and Triangle Strategy will both have been out for over six months by a hypothetical October FE release, and Three Hopes is out in June, so that's still 4+ months all to itself. I really don't think that they'd be competing much at all with that wide of a gap.

I think they could do an E3 combo: A last reminder trailer that FE:Three Hopes is out in a week or two, combined with a big reveal for the new FE coming in October.

Maybe it’s just me but I have a hard time getting over just how successful Luigi’s Mansion as a series has become

That quirky Gamecube Launch title most of us were sad wasnt a Mario platformer that could have easily died there, never got a sequel and probably wouldn’t have been all that shocking if it hadn’t is now a 11m+ sales juggernaut

Like imagine if Nintendo made a sequel to Chibi-Robo or something and it just randomly sold 15 million copies

It should be fun to see how the rest of this year plays out. I like how Nintendo is releasing 2 games almost every month.

2 games in March: Kirby, Triangle Strategy
2 games in April: Advance Wars, Switch sports
2 games in June: Fire Emblem Warriors, Mario Strikers

I hope that trend continues for the rest of the year. It's very suspicious that they have nothing scheduled (yet) for May.

I don't think Bayonetta 3 is a big enough title to carry an entire month on its own. (Sorry Platinum fans, it's the truth). I hope Nintendo is smart enough to release another game along side it.
Its a good way of thinking but only valid for western market.

In Japan, Triangle Strategy and FE Warriors are published by their developers (Square-Enix and Koei-Tecmo), and Advance Wars doesn’t release over there, so well, technically, Nintendo doesn’t count them as first party games in their internal calendar and when they showed their FY earnings presentations slides.

Of course, they can publish worldwide 2 games per month, it happened at may and june last year with miitopia/famicom detective club (may) and mario gold/game builder garage (june). But I considered more a exception than a norm.

btw, I’m very surprised a new FE is coming very soon (well 2 in fact, a new game and a remake), but I think for the state of the IP, the better is to release 1 entry per year. Really, the only 2 IPs can get more than 1 game per year is Pokémon and Mario.

Hi.

A few wookiee based updates.

I love Peach's plane. Fantastic design.

Amazon forgot to ship my copy of Horizon so now I have to play more Mario & Luigi.

My wife is pregnant again - have to get to the bottom of how this keeps happening.
Congrats! Getting to play more Mario and Luigi is an amazing thing.

But seriously, congrats on baby wookiee

Thanks friend!!

But also like yeah no joke, super hype to play more M&L. Luckily the 3DS is a great console to play while rocking a baby. Shame we won't get any more M&L games in the future :(

That took a turn.

has anyone tried the Ezio Pepperoni Collection and is it decent on Ring Fit? I’ve never had an Assassin’s Creed for more than five minutes so I’m not picky, just want to confirm that it is at least serviceable and doesn’t somehow turn the Switch into bread
Bookmarked for when I'm feeling down

I miss Gay Bowser
This user confuses me because I remember them complaining about the engagement in any non-General thread on Era's gaming side. The General left with us, and they have an account here... yet they remain predominately on Era. It's strange.

Recently I started trying to sink my teeth into Splatoon 2, and while I was enamored by the game, I quickly found myself to be too cognitively incapable to have fun with it.
Perhaps not the advice you're looking for, but getting into Splatoon this late is harder than advertised. The pace of a match in which everyone but you knows exactly what they're doing is utterly overwhelming, but no one really talks about it. You're not the first person I've seen imply they just can't process fast enough to play Splatoon, and some of those people were very good at games. If you stick with it long enough I think it could work out, but you know your own mind better than I do.

Alternatively, try playing with someone on a voice call; it's a very different experience. I'm always down for a round.

I'd rather not speculate about delays because that leads to trouble.

It's best to assume Zelda is coming this year until Nintendo says otherwise.
I wish more people took this approach to release dates and delays lol

do it, @hologram

Sounds good enough - handheld play is ok?

I'm in the camp that believes Next level Games is Nintendo's most important studio right now.

They consistently produce high-quality, commercially successful games. They are able to do so many types of genres (sports, action, adventure, etc). I also hear Next Level Games has a very positive work culture and employees enjoy working there.

It's between them and Monolithsoft.

Monolithsoft will have released 4 entire games in the span of 5 years.

Monolithsoft also has taken the brunt of support work at Nintendo, and has had their hand in Switch's top games too. BotW, Splatoon 2, and Animal Crossing New Horizons.

It is funny. Because we often talk about how sometimes games feel like they were before their time or not appreciated on the consoles they released on and if they would just let a new team do a new entry for today's audience said games might be popular. And then our cynical side takes over and says, nah, they had their chance and there's no point wasting resources on that when no one remembers or cares about it.

But then just look what happened with Luigi's Mansion; It absolutely can happen.

Maybe a new F-Zero, Golden Sun, Kid Icarus, or even Super Princess Peach game could blow up big on the Switch? Why the hell not lol?

Did Raccoon ever do the raffle? I'm assuming not because I don't have a $5 eShop code in my inbox. 😎
This was earlier when Raccoon dropped it at my doorstep. It was a magical moment.

Can someone clarify I thought the next new Fire Emblem was from 3H developer, while IS works on Genealogy remake which is expected in 2023. Is that not the case?
Fire Emblem: Three Houses was developed by Intelligent Systems and Koei Tecmo.

To add to this, I heard Koei Tecmo did a majority of the development work while leads from IS sort of presided over it.

So when someone says "the team that made Fire Emblem", I believe it to be that situation, while the majority of IS can aim their focus toward the remake.

Edit: and by "I heard" I mean I might have heard this from someone here.

I agree.

Next Level Games and Monolith Soft are very efficient, well-managed studios. I've always been impressed by both of them.

I like Retro Studios, but I never bought into the narrative that they were Nintendo's Naughty Dog. Metroid Prime 4 could be a masterpiece and I still wouldn't buy into the hype around Retro Studios.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses was developed by Intelligent Systems and Koei Tecmo.
3H was only supervised by IS though under 20 employees.

So for IS to be involved in both projects which one are they actually in charge of for the bulk of development?

That's what I'm confused about which project is composed of the majority of IS devs the remake or new title.

I think this would serve a double purpose: keep 3DS games alive in a meaningful way, and also allow for Nintendo DS games to be brought to the Nintendo Switch Online service.
It's true, and the whole DS and 3DS software on Switch problem is not at all easy for Nintendo to solve.

It could be something they'd have in mind for the next console they launch. One thing that springs to mind as a relatively simple solution is to allow the Joy Con to securely attach to the top and bottom of the screen, so you can then play the Switch in portrait - and the screen displays both parts of the DS/3DS.

Retro took a big hit to their reputation. A decade ago I think things looked better for them. They made the Prime trilogy, brought back Donkey Kong Country, and helped make Mario Kart 7. They had some nice wins under them.

I really wonder if Nintendo will be able to get them back on track. Prime HD and Prime 4 will be nice but they need to ship games sooner. Even NST has been a bigger help on the Switch than Retro so far.

Prime 1, 2 and TF are three of my favorite games ever but like Retro need to release something or just like, show us something, anything more than a Twitter background to make me feel like they are much of a factor at all

It’s been almost a decade guys…15 years since their last Metroid. I really have no idea what to even expect from them at this point

Prime 4 could be a near GOAT but their release schedule is getting George R.R. Martin-esque and just thinking about it makes me start contemplating my mortality

Retro needs to release a game. Their output this past years has been disastrous. I like them a lot, they made Metroid Prime and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze which are among the best video games ever made but it's becoming difficult to have faith in them now.

Wait, what output these past years?

Pretty sure the past years have had a nonexistent output from them if anything...

You all are gonna feel ashamed of your words and deeds when it turns out that Retro has been working on Prime 4, the Prime 1 remake, and BBQ sim '22 simultaneously smh

2015 to 2021 was literally nothing out from them other than porting DKCTF to Switch and adding Funky. Didn't even have a lot of content like other Wii U ports like MK8 and 3D World.

The big wild card is still Intelligent System's Fire Emblem. Will it be an October 2022 release or an early 2023 release (February/March)? I've mentioned before that this game is nearly finished with its development. IS has had over 3+ years to develop this game, and they received assistance from a support studio.

Let's rewind the clock back to the year 2017. During that year, Nintendo released TWO Fire Emblem games: Fire Emblem Warriors and Fire Emblem Echoes. Who says history can't repeat itself again?

That said, I could see Nintendo's marketing team saying: "Oh, well, our Fall lineup is already stacked with Xenoblade, Bayonetta 3, etc. Let's move FE to early 2023."

But as I said before, in terms of sales, I just don't think Bayonetta 3 is a big enough title to carry an entire month on its own.

Pairing Bayonetta 3 with Fire Emblem would be smart. Pairing Bayonetta 3 with Metroid Prime HD would also be smart.
… Jesus Christ I’m gonna be buying more first party games this year than the past two years combined.

I’ve gone months without a Nintendo game I wanted. The thought of Xeno 3, Bayo 3, MPHD, FE18 and BotW2 all three months apart from eachother is insane because those are all absolute must plays for me.

Retro Studios has always had very talented people, and they've produced some great games, but the company's management has always been questionable.

Things got significantly better after Jeff Spangenberg, but that's not saying much.

My only issue with Monolithsoft is that in terms of their own output they're a bit pigeonholed into one series (and one genre). I kinda wish I liked Xenoblade, that might go from a con to a pro if I did.

The more I learn about the history of the Xeno series the more heartwarming Monolith under Nintendo is.

Not being able to finish Gears, then saga underperforming and not being able to finish that… now takahashi has Xeno games being the big finisher of Nintendo’s presentations. His characters are getting into Smash Bros.

I’m sure they have slightly less control under Nintendo, but man, at the end of the day the man finally has an assured future for his Xeno games and they’re doing better than ever, and the studio is growing and helping on fucking Zelda. That has to feel pretty good.

I like both Monolith and NLG a lot but both of them have yet to make anything on the level of Prime, Echoes or Tropical Freeze for me. One day...

Next Level Games is incredibly talented and diverse. I just hope Nintendo fully understands this and doesn't turn them into a Mario spin-off studio.
Depends if you count Luigi’s Mansion as a mere Mario spinoff on the level of the sports games. I think it’s growing to become a premiere single player adventure title and a 4th one is definitely going to be made

You get to break the Mario Committee’s strict rules if you get a Mario game to sell 10 million copies.

I heard this from my source.

Under Kensuke Tanabe's supervision, Next Level Games could easily make a game like DKC Tropical Freeze.

Nothing about Tropical Freeze makes me think: "Only Retro Studios would know how to make a game like this".

If what we know and predict about this year is true, I honestly think Nintendo could justify an April Direct lol
