That sounds about right. Although aren't they concerned if hypothetically speaking, some Japanese 3rd party companies get acquired they lose out 3rd party support?

Although I would imagine acquiring Japanese companies would be very difficult, almost impossible I guess?

You can bet that Nintendo is at least a little bit concerned about the state of the industry and its ongoing consolidation but they're not going to publicly discuss that. I suspect the recent expansion plans were at least in part motivated by what's happening around them.

It honestly should not be hard to screw up the next gen system following the Switch.

The Switch is Super Mario Galaxy. The next gen system should be Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Not being BC would be one massive fuck-up with anything that comes next. Period.

Even the most daft Nintendo suit does know that probably.

Filthy kasuals: Lol, Switch is another one of Nintendo's endless useless gimmicks. It's an outdated tech for a home console, it will fail HARD!
Enlightened connoisseurs: Wow Switch is one powerful handheld. With fully equipped with standard controls! This is a second coming of Game Boy!

Said it repeatedly but backwards-compatibility for the next hardware is in Nintendo's interests as much as its in their consumer's interests. I expect services like the subscription to carry over too, even if Nintendo reorganise it and rebrand it at some point (maybe they tie the retro content into a separate, more expensive sub outside of the basic subscription).

So we should get GB/GBC for Switch. I wonder if that’ll be the cutoff. Then next gen it continues with GBA, DS and maybe GC?

This is sort of what I'm expecting. GB + GBC in the expansion sub this year gives Nintendo dozens of titles to add into 2022 and 2023, by which time you're looking at somewhere around 300 titles on NSO (80 to 90 NES, 50 to 60 SNES, 50 to 60 Mega Drive, 30 to 40 N64, 70+ GB/GBC). The next tier would be something like the 'Advance pack' with GBA and GC at launch. For GC emulation to be feasible without too much manual work, they need more powerful hardware, and they can up the price of the subscription again.

The second tweet hurts
i wouldn't read too much into it. sadly metaverse/nft are buzzwords that the stock market loves so you won't hear a CEO of a huge corporation tell their investors fuck the metaverse. but that doesn't mean we're gonna see nintendo NFTs anytime soon.

Once more, i wake up to truly astounding Switch numbers, and it won't be the last time. MK8D getting to 43M, ACNH alone surpassing the rest of the franchise, the Switch leaving Wii and PS1 behind, Dread closer to becoming the best-selling Metroid game, WarioWare surpassing the million mark. This is truly another golden generation for Nintendo and gamers

So... the Switch is now Nintendo's most successful console in their history? (soon to catch up with the Game Boy/Game Boy Color and DS, turning their most successful hardware ever)

Switch - 103.54

Wii - 101.63

NES - 61.91

SNES - 49.10

N64 - 32.93

GC - 21.74

Wii U - 13.53

you all better believe when they say we're not even close to have a replacement;

Wait what? Didn't they confirm Eiyuden Chronicle is coming to Switch successor, not for the current Switch? A change in plans, perhaps?
I believe they said it will release on whatever the main Nintendo console will be at the time of release.

It really doesn't look like a game that the Switch can't handle either.

Like this quote. There's the oldish saying that McDonnell Douglas bought Boeing with their own money. The 737 MAX was the result.

Don't worry, we'll be long dead and buried by the time Nintendo gets around to it.
It doesn't take too much squinting to see that as a polite dismissal so the markets don't get pissy. Hopefully.
