I have a very low-mid range gaming pc (a 1060 3gb that I can’t upgrade because it’s a small prebuilt) and I’ve been redeeming free epic store games for years. One of these days I will go Switch / PC and leave behind PS/Xbox for good.

I need to know Nintendo's Direct schedule for next year so i can plan my vacation days accordingly, so i'm sure they'll understand if i tell them that and give me their entire schedule. brb, gotta send an e-mail
If I were you, I'd plan the vacations first and then send an e-mail to Nintendo asking for them to plan the directs around your schedule.

2022 will be the year of indie low poly games! BELIEVE

I am 100% ready for the low-poly renaissance.

Email? Ok boomer lol. That's not how people communicate anymore, especially game companies. Gotta leave a comment on their youtube channel and don't forget to like and subscribe

What's nice about working from home is that I can just watch Directs right at my desk instead of having to go take some really long poops

I'd plan those vacations in February, June, and September. Possibly around December too for the Mario movie.

That's exactly what i was going to do! But you know... knowing the exact days would be nice...

If I were you, I'd plan the vacations first and then send an e-mail to Nintendo asking for them to plan the directs around your schedule.

Wow, that's an even better idea!

Shame on me. I'm such an outdated guy. Of course they'll answer that way

My stack of gaming books grew by one with Ask Iwata this holiday, I've still got to read my copy of Press Reset by Jason S. and Reggie has a book coming later this year.

Would anyone be interested in A Nintendo Bookclub thread?

If it isn’t Raycon or a VPN service, you haven’t reached the big time

I always wonder if SquareSpace actually has a separate budget to pay all these YT influencer people, they seem to keep YT afloat almost lol 😂
I guess I’m not susceptible to the influencers, but often wonder if these companies get any return on all but the highest level of social media celebrity. I have friends that have blogs and get sponsored posts and just think, there is no way Toyota or whatever this company is is getting any return from this person. we are talking under 10k followers, most of which were likely bought and this not even real. I guess volume advertising is their hope.

SquareSpace, Raycon, SimpliSafe, and now Manscaped, which is apparently a hot ticket right now because I saw a streamer yesterday on twitter asking Manscaped to team with him like it's a sought-after status symbol or something (any insight there, @NateDrake?)

We’re almost in the new year so naturally I am thinking about the Direct schedule.

This year was pretty funny because the “pattern” was pretty much exactly that of 2019’s, even down to the Indie Worlds I think? I quite like that schedule so I hope they stick to it, but it’s Nintendo so nothing is ever consistent.

I kinda think we’ll see a mini in January. Give Kirby a release date for March-April, reveal that casual game Emily mentioned for a similar release time frame, and a date for Advance Wars in April-May.

Then we get a “real” Direct in March-April with a focus on Splatoon 3 and revealing the lineup till about August. September and beyond games get revealed @ E3, with a focus on BOTW2.

I'm not ready for the chaos that will develop if a Mini Direct gets announced/shadow dropped for January as opposed to a General Direct lol.

Although to be fair, the last mini Direct which was in March 2020 beginning of the pandemic was actually solid especially thanks to Bravely Default 2 and Xenoblade DE with Future Connected announced.

quick barometer, which do you guys think is more likely, 2D donkey kong or 3D donkey kong

let's start with @HockeyBird
Going by rumors, if Nintendo wants to make DK a big deal again, I don't think an experimental 2D title will be it.

3D DK has the potential to be the best selling DK game if it's on Switch.

What's more likely however, I could see this new DK team start with a 2D title to prove to the fans they can pull it off no problem and that the series is in safe hands. I suspect it will still be a Country game in all but name, but it will have Jungle Beat influences in there as well. After they develop that, then they'll make a new 3D one.

Manscaped came to me asking for a partnership & they have been a joy to work with. Even before they came knocking, I was a fan of their product, so the partnership made sense. I've refused countless sponsorship deals (Raid) because I don't use the product nor want to endorse something I'd never use myself.

Hopefully there’s an easy fix.
So far no, my best hope is to make a windows 8.1 recovery USB drive but Microsoft's tool that formats USB drives for recovery is no longer available for windows 8.1.

So I have no idea what to do.

Ask Iwata was a good read. Not so much about Nintendo in general but I would’ve loved to have a boss like Iwata based on his managerial insights in the book.

I also heartily recommend Chris Kohler’s Power Up. It does a very very good job of explaining the appeal of Japanese games in the early sections before diving deep on some of the heavy hitters.

Next on my gaming book list is Clyde Mandalin’s Earthbound Legend of Localizations time. I’ve got a few non-gaming books ahead of it to read still but I’m eager to finally crack that one open. I spent way too much time as a kid reading his Mother 2 Earthbound site, so having it in proper book form makes me happy.

In short, yes let’s get a book club going!

Me: Completely aware of the risk of burnout, having experienced it frequently in multiple places including gaming

Also me: Burns myself out trying to 100% Captain Toad in 4 days

This is a banger

I fully expect the game to get a bit of a post-mortem rise in the community’s estimations, especially as it gets more scarce with time. Is it perfect? Of course not. Is it the worst game of 2021? Hell no. I’d take another Balan Wonderworld over another Bowser’s Fury.
Would I take another Balan Wonderworld over another Bowser's Fury? Hell no.

???? is… is that person really saying they enjoyed Balan Wonderworld more than Bowser’s Fury?
Unless I'm misreading (or they're joking or exaggerating for a bit), yes. That is the very last paragraph of the article.

Which hey, opinions, and I guess it's a little unfair of me since I haven't played Balan, but...yeah, can't get behind that.

Not sure how this will fit in to the Direct discussion, but the annual Pokémon Day stream could be pretty interesting this year. The one announcement that we can be pretty confident will be there will be the BDSP/Legends update for Home, but even that could go in one of two different directions. Will the inevitable Sword and Shield update only include the bare minimum Pokémon for compatibility with the other Gen 8 titles, or will they go the extra little bit and also include the last 50-60 necessary to make Sword and Shield finally complete (in terms of species) and finally free us from the massive Furfrou drought we're currently experiencing?
The short version is that Pokémon Go is the only current game where Furfrou is available, and, Niantic being Niantic, not only has it been months since they've been in the wild in any significant numbers, but the trims were made region exclusive and one of them isn't even available at all. This has created a situation where the GTS is absolutely clogged with requests for Furfrou forms that few, if any, can fulfill.

The longer explanation is that Furfrou's trims belong to a special category of form changes that persist outside of battle but are still volatile and expire eventually (in Furfrou's case, after like a few days). When Furfrou was originally introduced, forms like this immediately expired upon being deposited into boxes, but Gen 7 changes the rules so that the reversion happens upon withdrawal instead of deposit making these forms storable for the first time. Problem is, while Pokémon Home honors the new rules, Bank was never updated to, so it was completely impossible to put the trims into Home up until their recent addition to Go, which, combined with the recent addition of being able to ask and search for specific forms on the GTS (finally after like 14 years), has lead to the current situation where the GTS is clogged with Furfrou requests. Adding Furfrou to Sword and Shield would fix this almost immediately because then you could get all the trims in a game where you can easily breed an unlimited number of Furfrou and can directly deposit them into Home.

The rest of the announcements similarly have a fair amount of range as to how they turn out. There will probably be at least one spin-off, but will it be good or more mobile focused garbage? Will this be the year we finally start getting emulated mainline games on Switch? Will they do what most expect and have the major holiday release be Legends DLC, or will they attempt to actually put out a new game? I could maybe see an outside chance of a proper Platinum remake, but they've pretty clearly telegraphed that as not happening. Similarly, they could attempt a Gen 9 release, but any hypothetical Gen 9 in 2022 would have a pretty uphill battle convincing me that it wasn't released too early.

Pokémon has gotten harder to predict recently, which is simultaneously interesting and concerning, because they've been defying expectations in both positive and negative directions.

So, when will Famiboards get its own take on the Konami-code and the Barrel Roll? If there is one site where it just fits....

I swear, just as I read your replies I went watching this video on Gundam and they are sponsored by Sheath and I relly thought it was like a joke by the guy who makes the video but it is apparantly real, invented by a military guy....

It is at least something new haha! I got sich of SquareSpace, the thousands of VPN services and online study courses that always sponsor these video's.

My faith in humanity was already low enough before I clicked that link, christ you'd think I'd know better by now..

This explains why I didn't have much luck when I reinstalled Pokemon Go upon hearing trims were in the game since those forms are one of the holes in my extended living dex. Good thing I decided to pop onto this page of the thread or I still wouldn't understand exactly how I was wasting my time.
