I got in contact with the staff and put my name forward to be the next Direct Speculation host, as I haven’t hosted a major Famiboards thread since April of 2022, and I already have some fun ideas for the opening post, if nobody objects to me hosting.
 
Is this like the Town Square in Animal Crossing on the Gamecube? Is it just going to turn into an open forum for my brother to deride all of the villagers in our town?

I recently came across a recording of a concert of his from 1977 that I had never heard before and the whole concert is incredible. Piano Man 4th instead of the closer? Root Beer Rag getting played at blistering speeds? Swoon!

For those who don't know, Tatsuro Yamashita came out with his seminal album For You in 1982 (which I recently acquired on vinyl imported from Japan with the OBI strip, and I figured you would also appreciate Racc πŸ’œ), and the album opener Sparkle was and still is a certified bop πŸ”₯ In 1985, the Hawaiian band Greenwood did an English cover, and it was because of a local DJ that spun it at a club in 2009 in Honolulu that it has since had a massive resurgence. (Unfortunately their own debut album Lost in Paradise is not on Spotify and absolute hell trying to find a decent copy on vinyl at a reasonable price, but you can find the song on the compilation 'Aloha Got Soul')

Well, what makes this song so special? Not one, but two gaming influences. The biggest one goes back to Doubutsu no Mori in 2001, but has been featured in every game of Animal Crossing since when you make an invalid request to K.K. Slider. You can only hear this when he's playing on a Saturday night and you won't get a record to play in your music player, but the data exists for a reason and the similarity is undeniable. Kazumi Totaka is a man of taste πŸ‘Œ



Additionally, I only found out through sheer dumb luck, but the Paradise Killer features the song 'Paradise (Stay Forever)', and if you've listened above, you can hear the structure of the song from the intro, to the verse, to the bridge, to the chorus, the horn hits, the sax solo, but it doesn't make it any less of a banger.

Also, @chocolate_supra asked me about my last nap being on April 1st, 2006 in the last thread and I didn't get a chance to answer before this thread fired up. I only took a nap that day because I was sick, and the only reason I remember it with such specificity is because that was the day Jack Black was hosting the Kids Choice Awards, and the nap happened to last the entire length of the show, so I missed it.
 
My 2 year old is having a crush on Daruk

I have all my amiibo displayed on a home made shelf in my office and I have all the Zelda ones in the bottom row - he's now tall enoug now to reach the bottom row and he always picks Daruk from it - kisses it on the head and embraces and cradles it in his arms before kissing it on the head and putting it back on the shelf.

He's done it a few times now since last week and dang it if it's not the cutest thing I ever saw.

Me!! Just rewatched Part 1 to refresh myself and I had forgotten just how incredible the cinematography and vfx were, so now I'm doubly jazzed for Part 2 and will be running to the theater as soon as I can.

Same here. I just re-watched Part 1 to get ready for Part 2. I've never read the books so I know very little about Dune.

I did hear that the later books get really trippy and weird. So I hope they make more Dune movies just to see how weird it gets, lol.
 
February flew by so fast compared to January, eventho it even had an extra day this year!

I like how the ST number coincides with my bday that is also coincidentally this month, nice B)

Yeah someone in imgur posted a picture of a later character that had me wondering how the hell that happened, so it sent me on a wiki deep-dive that... went places.

Trippy is an understatement for those later books.

simultaneously feel ancient because I remembered that they exist and youthful because I always thought they were mid
