StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (New Staff Post, Please read)

Yeah it's not a good sign that nate corroborated necro's wack source. It's also weird that nobody else was really talking about march other than those two. Nate also took an L with the starfield thing.

Yeah he was wrong about the direct. But ask yourself what could be the reason why suddently Nintendo skips a february direct for the first time in years and seemingly want a clean slate from here to march.

@oldpuck @Thraktor @ILikeFeet @LiC
Sorry for mass-quoting, but this question has been bothering my mind for hours now, and every research I've done only returns info on machine-learning stuff which is not what I want.

The numbers we see on websites like techpowerup where they say a GPU has x teraflops of FP32 and Y teraflops of FP16 is something I've wondered how it translates to code.

I know in 2d graphics, we typically have a bidimensional array that stores the x,y coordinates of objects displayed on screen.

And in 3d graphics, x,y and z coordinates stored in a tridimensional array.

I also know FP16 stands for 16 bit floating point (FP16 teraflops being how many 16 bit floating point operations per second). Same logic for 32bit floating point (FP32).

The question is, do game programmers declare variables that store the xyz coordinates as FP16 or FP32 explicitly? and if so, are they deciding on which precision to use based on the number of vertices the object has?

Because like, I've seen plenty of games on switch where the polygon count is greater than the value limit for 16bit (2^16 or 65,536). I know switch can use FP32 as well but like, the performance for FP16 on switch is twice the FP32 performance.
those are more used for shaders now than any sort of polygon count. raw polygons are such a non-issue and have been for decades. now how you shade them is important (or if you want to generate polygons via compute, I guess), and floating point ops would be used for that

So Nate and Necro were wrong ig
This probably spells badly for Switch 2 in March
How long has it been since Nate got the date of the Direct wrong?
He will investigate what happened, maybe.
When did Nate say the 15th? I thought I was following his stuff pretty closely but I never heard him say it was gonna be today.

Yeah but I'm just mentioning that Necrolipe and Nate have kinda been going back and forth with the same/similar info and they're mostly the only ones doing it. For one of their sources to be incorrect might mean their info on previous things could be inaccurate. I'm not at grain of salt territory (maybe a 1/3 of a shaker though).

Necrolipe did say that he "shouldn't have trusted the source", which makes me feel like the source for this supposed Direct is different from his previous ones. Now if Nate corroborated with that same source, then it's possible both of them might've been duped.

Why are people now so pessimistic about March? It has no relation to each other. A Partners Direct happening this week wouldn‘t make the Rumors about a Switch 2 reveal in March more true.

Yeah I'm not going to be super aggro about it about it (it's just videogame lol) but it does put March into doubt. For all we know the sources are probably different for the partner showcase rumor and the Switch 2 reveal rumor but it does make me pause.

Because they're Sith, only dealing in absolutes. If one thing is false, everything else must be too!

;D

If anything, the lack of a Direct in Feb makes me even more certain in early March. 'Cause they usually outline the first half, with some announcements beyond at that time, so Nintendo skipping this would mean there's something coming up sooner for the timeframe that's still blank right now.

No direct really has me hyped for March if there really is no direct

there still could be a direct next week just based off timing, but not the week after because of pokemon day

Earlier in the thread it was suggested Xbox was supposed to have a presentation next week, and it got moved up to this week and that NOA seemed quite surprised. We know from Kit & Krista that Directs have been moved on short notice before -- something they can do since they're pre-recorded.

So, hypothetically, what if Nintendo internally decided to shift a Direct to next week due to the Microsoft podcast?

lol the day isn’t even over yet and people are dogpiling insiders or heavily questioning them. Even if we don’t have anything, it doesn’t matter.

How about you same people say “thanks” for them at least attempting to research, gather sources, and report even if they are wrong.

The idea that one “miss” poisons the bucket of “hits” just shows immaturity, lack of macro awareness and evaluation.

If nate and necro were 75% on all reports, I’d love those odds and consider them top notch insiders/reporters/researchers. (I believe they are higher than 75%)

State of Unreal is March 20th at GDC. I'm expecting some things including Lumen for Mobile to be shown off in near production state. possibly with Fortnite. would be telling of how Epic gets ray tracing to scale across a broader spectrum (and how devs can possibly scale their games to as low as Drake)

i don’t think there not being a direct further proves or further disproves march in any direction at all. irrespective of nate or necro’s validity (which is still not that bad anyway), something is happening soon. we know as much bc of the gamescom rumors from LY.

the direct and switch 2 announcements aren’t inextricably tied together.

Shareholders have lower standards, we fans need 200% or more accuracy./s

Reads like you are insulating yourself from the potential blow back from your post about switch 2 reveal from a couple days ago lol

I mean...Grubb speculated on this. Of course some here found that nonsensical since Nintendo has had directs on the same day as state of plays. It seems that either this is the logical turn of events or the day is just young lmao.

I mean wouldn't you if people are going to act like entitled children?

And even with this bad faith interpretation of what he said, how is he wrong?

Let me be very clear.

Switch 2 reveal march. (Not my research but I did have it corroborated by my contacts I spoke with and they said first two weeks of March)
Switch 2 launch May or June. (What my post mentioned)

That happens or I’m wrong. No ifs ands or buts. I’m 100% convinced and sure.

I’m not “insulating”, “distancing” from anything. I don’t even care if Nate or Necro come out and say anything in contrast. This is what I believe. This is what I researched.

Edit: I’m sad to have to repeat this just in case but I am not an insider. I am a researcher and I believe I found contacts from Wall Street that may have access to inside information from 2nd hand resources. All related to my theory that insider trading is rampant and somebody always knows releases/reveals of new tech before it’s announced

I’m at a state of complete meditative peace with respect to the Switch 2 announcement. It could be announced tomorrow or in October and it would make no difference to me. No podcast, no Bloomberg report, no shipping info shall shake me. It’s coming, in its own time. So be it written 😤

What I’m really far more invested in is whether Concernt is gonna beat ILikeFeet to 5000 posts. I’ve been following it for weeks, and the race is so tight.
it happened

Honestly I think you are right. Regardless props for sticking to your guns.

not at all, IIRC
He did, which is why we were confident it was happening today.

I'm going to be frank, this isn't something he's usually wrong about so I think he's garnered the BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT, tough concept I know, and something changed internally at Nintendo. Maybe it's the xbox thing, maybe it's something else.

Grubb never knew the date but he has again and again said he heard they were discussing moving the direct cause of xbox. Even just a few minutes ago he's stated that.

Agreed. Folks get way too tight when someone with sources gets something wrong.

Voting for a name change to Shareholder Virgin if wrong.

oh shit, looks like ARM did have their Steel Arms presentation, just at Unreal Fest Shanghai in Dec 2023. the slide deck is up but no video. there's no details of frame rate (beyond ~40fps) and resolution, but we might hear about this stuff at GDC

Honestly at this point in the game, I don't get why people get so wound up if an insider gets Switch 2 info - or any info, really - wrong. I know we're "starved" for info/content right now (in the same way that the Green Bay Packers had a "rebuild" this NFL season) but we know it's coming this year. If insiders like Nate or Necro or informed speculators like our own Shareholder Chat get something wrong, so what? There's no need to dogpile on peeps. Don't get so emotionally invested in this stuff. It's supposed to be fun. Have fun.

you better put that in hide tags before you end up in a Nintendo Prime video

Well shit. Oh well. << I know good lawyers lol >>

“Shareholder chat”. It’s all downhill from here folks. (Lol)

At first I thought grubb was just suggesting they were moving the partner showcase but now he's confirming he has heard things about it being moved. There's a chance nate and necro's sources were correct at one point.

oh my bad, didn't catch it.

Nate is a very reliable source, so I guess some plans changed internally.

Maybe Grubb is right on this topic at this point. Interesting weeks ahed, if Switch 2 unveil is happening in March.

This is what I've been tryna say haha. He said this tuesday and I posted it in the direct speculation thread. It was laughed over cause Nintendo did directs on the same day of SoP's but yeah.

I root for this to be true because I find it hilarious.
