It's tough this year because Mario Wonder is way better than OdysseyI do wonder (ha) if Mario and Zelda end up splitting a lot of the vote between more Nintendo focused outlets who participate. It didn't stop BotW from an impressive win in 2017, though the competition that year was far less fierce.
Flashback to the time when Octopath 1 lost in the best soundtrack category to fucking God of WarOctopath got robbed.
I'm a big hypocrite because I think remakes shouldn't be nominated for GOTY but I also think RE4R is too good not to be nominated. Take me to gamer jail.
Octopath got robbed.
considering there are no Nintendo focused outlets on the voting board I doubt itI do wonder (ha) if Mario and Zelda end up splitting a lot of the vote between more Nintendo focused outlets who participate. I will legit recruit the Pikmin reddit to get in here to even the odds for that.I’ll be interested to see Fami’s GOTY just to see how the votes for the Switch stuff that wasn’t Mario/Zelda fall here.
Jeff Gerstmann deserves the recognition, but it's pretty funny to see a bunch of organizations and then just "one old guy".Voting Jury | The Game Awards

It's basically marketing for upcoming titles. Why does an award show have a “most anticipated” award?
I don't want to live in a world where REmake 4 is arbitrarily excluded from these awards. It's a new game with a new engine based on an old game. The two are very different and each deserve recognition of their own.Random thoughts of mine for the 6 noms:
-Genre bias is once again out in full force
-It's nice to see a 2D game represented
-I don't think that a remake belongs, no matter how great it is, especially in a year like 2023
-Sucks to not get at least one indie nod
Fixed it for ya, teehee~can't hear over the sweat sounds ofWonderWowie-Zowie
it's 2017 all over againThis is the second time that Nintendo releases a Zelda and a Mario and have to endure the agony of competing with themselves for game of the year.
nintendo sweeping the game awards
comment is christopher dring™ approvedNintendo bias in the media. I can't believe they nominated DLC and a game made by a C-team. Obvious corruption. They paid off Geoff with rare Amiibos and orbs for Fire Emblem Heroes.
Apply this to the entire game awards and you will quickly realize how futile half the categories arehonestly what is the point of "family game of the year" when one of the nominees is also nominated for GOTY
It has been a thing yeah, where certain years one of the Best Family games is also a GOTY nominee and so it's pretty obvious which game will take Best Familyhonestly what is the point of "family game of the year" when one of the nominees is also nominated for GOTY
