For sure it'll be in the Best Family Game category, can't see much outside of that though (I don't remember games straddling the genre categories before so probably not Strategy). Maaaaaybe Art Direction at a push?

(If it were me, it'd be one of the 6 GOTY candidates but I am not 120 media outlets)
 
I have a feeling FE Engage isn't going to get too much love in the nominations just because I see it's a slightly more controversial entry online, but I'd love to see it on the list. It single-handedly transformed me into an FE series fan.

(Yes, I know that media outlets are not the same as a bunch of fans online, but it still affects how I think the game was received overall.)
 
I just hope that Humanity and Chants of Sennaar get some representation here - I doubt it especially without a Puzzle game category, but I live in hope.

Thinking about it, are puzzle games the biggest or at least most ubiquitous game genre without a specific award?

That's actually interesting that GTA VI might be allowed. It's technically not even formally announced (just "the next generation of GTA") and won't be revealed till the Game Awards. Almost feels like cheating to include it haha.

I see that Geoff and co see Dave the Diver as an indie, despite the fact it quite clearly isn't.

No shade on the game itself, but it's like the opposite of what an indie game is.

Every single one of these games wholeheartedly deserve it. I am so glad pity picks for something like Starfield didn't make it in.

It was a good year for games.

I love the variety in genres too.

I find it funny how these are all sequels/continuations. And the Nintendo ones don’t have numbers in the title.

It’s just amusing to me lol.

Also, knew final Fantasy wouldn’t get it. And Starfield to an extent.
 
Those are solid picks. I’m a bit surprised to see Wonder in there, but no doubt it deserves it. I’m sad FF16 didn’t make the cut but I’m not too shocked about it.

Because RE4 is a universally beloved game with a higher MC score, from both reviewers and fans. And RE4 is actually talked about in a good light.

The only thing you hear from FFXVI nowadays is how people are disappointed by it, and that even extends to Square. That game had one of the worst cases of honeymoon phases I have ever seen.

This GOTY nomination reveal might be the biggest insult by a TGA in the past decade. I literally screamed "FUCK YOU" at my screen. I knew tjat thhey haven't said Pikmin 4 would be notimated for GOTY but the hype they created made me think they were just going to surprise us with it anyway. Absolutely unacceptable to do this to us. Once they knew Pikmin 4 in GOTY category was expected, they should've done it.

Some stats, because I find these kind of things interesting (someone definitely let me know if I got something wrong)

- As far as specific studios go, Nintendo EPD is now the most-nominated developer. They were previously tied with From's 4 nominations and now have 6; RE4's nomination means Capcom and From are now tied for second. If Nintendo wins this year, they'll also be tied with From on GOTY wins at 2 each

- Sony remains the most-nominated publisher at (now) 12 games; Nintendo's dual nominations here closes the gap between them a bit, with one game separating them. If we retroactively label Zenimax and ActiBlizz games as Xbox nominations, then they're in 3rd place with 7 noms; otherwise, 3rd place is a tie between Bethesda Softworks and Capcom at 4 a piece

- Insomniac is now Sony's most-nominated studio (it was previously a four-way tie between them, Naughty Dog, Sony Santa Monica, and Guerilla Games)
