Well this absolutely sucks. My new switch bag arrived and it’s missing both the shoulder strap and the switch pouch! So it’s useless and I need it replaced.

At least return and replace is easy

Dammit don’t crack the code man

The variety is impressive. You've got big AAA monsters like Fable and Perfect Dark coming yet also Age of Empires is coming to console with M+KB support.
The dream scenario for me would be Game Pass on Switch. Or maybe Switch 2. Like, Psychonauts 2 would be awesome, but it would be even more awesome with portable play.

I'd prefer just a straight up handheld Xbox. Give me something about as powerful as the Series S that can play Starfield and Diablo IV on the go.

I ain't arguing with that. XB2 hit some of the same notes that I loved about CT, which caused me to look into the history of Monolith and that's how I found a lot of the Chrono team are the same people who made Xenogears and then split off to form Monolith. XB has some CT DNA, and as far as I'm concerned it's Chrono's successor series. So as much as I stan Chrono Trigger as the GOAT, I'll accept any Xeno entry as an acceptable interchange.
This is why I tell people we don’t need another Chrono or Xenogears game: the series has basically still been going.

Although I wouldn’t mind seeing a new Chrono game from Yuji Horii.

Yup. CT team rolled onto FFVII, some of them noped out of it for being "too dark" and went to work on Xenogears and then Chrono Cross. Other people came to Monolith from Final Fantasy XI if I recall correctly.

You're also not wrong about the shared CT-Xenogears DNA. I hit the Retronauts coverage of Xenogears (sadly it's a Patron exclusive ep) and the hosts said they consider Xenogears an honorary Chrono game because of the commonalities.

For real though, where the heck is DQ3 remake?
Patience, Jump Festa is next month.

December could be a big month for S-E

Filthy capitalist pig just ordered all three John Wick movies, Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex, and the Cowboy Bebop Movie Blu-rays
Please post impressions of the GitS SAC Blu-Rays. Amazon reviews scared me into getting the DVD versions and I'd love to have HD versions of that show (and it'll take up less shelf space)

Get a laptop?

I’ve been buying a bunch of digital movies over the past few months. Got like 25 movies on my Vudu account now. Just grabbed the 4K versions of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly and Casino.

Today was pretty good my Splatoon 3 amiibo arrived and I found a cool Zelda ornament. It's really heavy though.

Comfy game of the year for me absolutely has to go to Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

From the gameplay to the visuals to the music, everything about it is just so cosy and pleasant, like a warm mug of cocoa with extra marshmallows.
In a year where real life has been very challenging and scary for me, it was my favourite digital holiday and refuge, and no matter how rotten I felt, playing it always put a smile on my face.

Ooh yeah. That's a comfy one

What's your Comfy Game of the Year?

Mine has to be either Triangle Strategy or Tactics Ogre: Reborn.
Okay this is gonna sound like a joke but

Yakuza 0. I’m doing a 100% completion play through for the first time and doing every little side activity has been very zen for me. Just taking my time with it. Love it. I could spend time in Kamurocho forever.

Yeah I wouldn't say no to a new Chrono as long as some key people returned to the team, but in the meantime Xeno keeps that part of my heart warm.

Close! The initial story that Takahashi and Saga brainstormed together was pitched to Square as a potential story for FFVII, but Square's brass thought it was too sci-fi for an FF game so they told them to make it a non-FF instead.

aaaand that non-FF game the story then began development as was Chrono Trigger 2. Not Chrono Cross, literally Trigger 2. That's why the majority of CT's key team (art, battle system, map design, music, scenario writing, etc) migrated to Xenogears, because development of Xenogears started as Chrono Trigger 2. This was confirmed by Takahashi during the XG anniversary concert a few years ago. Then really early on they all (the team and the top brass) decided to scrap the CT connections entirely and let the game have its own backstory, which is what sorta jumpstarted the infamous massive lore expansion mid-development which caused the dev time to balloon (because they were essentially rewriting it all as they went and couldn't plan very well ahead), but which also eventually was turned into a book and released as Perfect Works, which became sort of the series bible going forward even as they left Square and began Xenosaga. The "rolling the team into FF" part happened afterwards, after Xenogears was not allowed to really be finished and Square denied them any further games in the series. And that causes Takahashi/Honne to decide to leave and form Monolith, because they didn't want to roll into FF development, they wanted to continue the Perfect Works story.

You're also not wrong about the shared CT-Xenogears DNA. I hit the Retronauts coverage of Xenogears (sadly it's a Patron exclusive ep) and the hosts said they consider Xenogears an honorary Chrono game because of the commonalities.
So yeah not just commonalities. Xeno literally started as Chrono. Lucca even has a cameo in XG as sort of a reference to all this.

Played this year? Spiritfarer so far.
Came out this year? Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

This is great and all, but yeah when Amazon is laying off 10,000 employees it feels like a PR move. If true, great, but 'pledges to' is kind of a believe it when I see it kinda thing
these charity donations are almost always money laundering
the ones that arent are just advanced money laundering

Gonna have to third the Kirby comfiness praise. That or Live A Live for being a “lost” JRPG and is therefore cozy by default in my mind.

Comfy game? I guess Potionomics? tho in that case my definition of comfy is that I like being pressured into a time management game. I played Kirby, but I like that series for its action, escalation/contrast between its starting dreamland areas to whatever nightmare it ends up being, kind of like Klonoa, so not something I play to be comfy lol.

It's funny because early in the year I would have said "well clearly it'll be XC3" but then with how the game world is set up, that's not the case. So... I guess probably Arceus? I haven't played a ton of games I could call comfy this year, really.

That would be cool except the battery life would probably be abysmal if it had to have Xbox specs.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a solid pick, but I have to give the award to Rune Factory 5. There’s a certain feeling of zen just planning and doing daily routines, and your work always pays off in one way or another, which is pretty uplifting.

I bought 12 Angry Men due to a criterion collection sale.

Pretty excited to see this film. Been wanting to forever but never had a chance. Seems perfect for that thanksgiving break where we have free time before the family gathering starts.

Should’ve bought The Irishman too. But maybe next time.
Fantastic film! You should also look into director Sidney Lumet's other films too like Serpico and Network if you haven't already.

Splatoon 2, Animal Crossing and Mario Maker 2 got updated today.

EPD clearly forgot to upload the data last year for those games.

Tin foil hat says there is something else happening behind the scenes. Looking forward to what Oatmeal dome has to say, although it's probably a nothing burger.

Honestly, it's Pokemon Legends. I remember being wrapped up in my blanket, catching Pokemon and exploring, as the sun set. And Jubilife Village gives off massive comfy vibes

Oh man, that Jubilife theme. That goes down as some of my all-time favorite Pokemon music.

Runs even more hollow when you realize their footprint grew 11% over 2021 when they could have been electrifying their fleet much quicker with that money.

any unity users out there ever attach a switch pro controller and have yr player character absolutely lose their shit?

I was just playing Death’s Door and I realized that if you cut a sign in half and then Read it, the textbox appears cut in half as well!

Thought it was a neat little detail. Love when devs do small stuff like that.

Seeing the game awards nominations has me, somehow, hyped for the show. Again. I do this every year.

At the very least, XC3 orchestra will be cool, and I'll be cheering on Elden Ring for most spots it's up for. It'll be a fairly entertaining night regardless of if we get anything big (but a TotK trailer would do wonders for that)

While some of the nominations are head scratchers, hopefully The Keighly's at least have some good reveals. I'm expecting a game or two from Xbox and something from Riot, either another Riot Forge game or Project L. A release date trailer for Diablo IV seems like a safe bet too.

If Smash Bros for Switch is Smash Ultimate, should we call Smash for Wii U/3DS… Smash Penultimate?!

I often don't like visiting my parents because my mom has the news, particularly MSNBC, on a lot and she's blasting it at full volume. She then leaves her bedroom to go cook dinner and she then turns on the news in the family room. So now my ears are getting blasted from all directions.

Could be worse. My dad's family is like that but with Fox News. My dad himself is the sole outlier. 😅

I mean, The Artful Escape only came out on Switch a week before Arceus, but truly that's a game I could see myself playing annually just for the vibes of a platformer-lite and music rhythm game with a giant space shrimp that speaks exclusively in saxophone solos
