If they did return to Star Fox, I'd love to see them commit to the idea of serialized storytelling. I would love to see the game released in episodes of highly replayable classic campaigns over the course of a year or two.
Much like with DK, I think things will improve for Fox as soon as he gets a dedicated home/team of his own.

Whether that's entirely internal (including Next Level), or utilizing the help of a 3rd party like Bamco, I almost don't care. I just want to see the return of one of my fave Nintendo IPs.

I have pretty bad misophonia, and on many occasions have been unable to get more than a couple minutes into Nate the Hate podcasts due to the crinkling and smacking caught by the microphone.

For some reason, on today of all days, I decided to google if there's an equalizer google chrome plugin. Of course there is. I'm now listening to the latest NtH episode with a hard rolloff at 2k Hz.

The only reason I can think of there not being a June Direct (and I think it's a possible reason, honestly), is that there might not be any major holiday titles this year as they start to prep for the next system. They could be banking on DLC to carry them for the rest of the year.

Ok my guess: June 21st. General one, 45 minutes. No successor OR pro.

First party games to be revealed: Jet Dragon (pub. by Nintendo), Genealogy of Holy War, Donkey Kong (spiritual successor to DK94), Mario Party Superstars 2. All slated for 2023 fall.

Gamecube remasters are real but will be revealed on Feb 24 Direct. Six of them: Metroid Prime 2 Echoes, F-Zero GX, Starfox Assault, Kirby Air Ride, Paper Mario, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. All will be out within 2024. And all except Paper Mario and DK will have online mutiplayer.
I don't think Nintendo would unload all those titles at once like that. Gamecube remakes are coming but their reveals will be a more gradual process over time. Paper Mario could be later this year, F-Zero earlier next year perhaps.

Not a big fan of the thread tag line.

Directs are about games, not hardware.
Uncharted territory is exactly the phrase used by Furukawa when describing where the Switch currently is. Not in reference solely to new hardware, but software support.

Drake's deception was too clever of a pun not to use, since it works on a number of different levels.

Can you describe all the levels explicitly?
Drake being missing despite many signs pointing to it being done since like, early last year.

The "Uncharted Territory" thing combined with the fact that the chip is code named Drake makes a play on Sony's Uncharted series pretty obvious and funny.

I figured that might be the case

Not sure how I feel about a prominent thread on the site cheekily disparaging a specific user

But I could be taking it too seriously

I think the cheekish/jovial nature of it would probably be apparent, and make sure it's not taken too seriously. Hopefully.

New direct speculation thread.
Yahaha to you racoon!

Absolutely wild guess:
  • Partner Direct in June (we regal ourselves with approximately 40 minutes of farm sims)
  • pikmin direct begin of July (hosted by Myamoto sporting an Red pikmin jumpsuit)
  • nothing until September.... then out of nowhere official announcement of Drake and upcoming launching line up ( MP4 looks reaaaally good)

Hopefully this thread won't sink to the depths of despair that the thread did last June.

I remember posts like "I guess Nintendo is done with Directs now. What caused them to make this decision?" and I was just thinking, my friends, chill.

Ayyyy here it is! Great thread as always, @Raccoon .

I don’t know if I’ll be super active here with Zelda and all, but this week pre-TotK should be fun with earnings and the like.

This thread is really comforting, because finally, no matter what the next hardware is, Nintendo will continue to publish games, and that's the main reason to be excited. I don't really need to know what hardware the games we already know about (MP4, Pikmin 4, Detective Pikatchu 2) will be released on, nor do I need to know if a new 2D Mario or hypothetical remasters of wonderful games were just to fill some kind of gap. I just know that I want to play it all, and that's the main thing that many of us share here at the end of the day.

I think a lot rides on whether the next console is compatible with the current Switch, and whether games will see enhancements when played on the new machine.
If that is the case, then we may see releases continue in a normal fashion but dual-branded when released at retail (and this artwork can be kept under wraps till the next machine is unveiled).
If not, there will be a natural cut-off for new 1st party releases and perhaps the GC remasters will be all that will release moving into 2024.

I think it’s more likely that we get a partner showcase in June/July than a full direct.

But a partner showcase would be the perfect place to reveal the release date for Fantasy Life so no matter what, it’s a win.

Somehow, Direct speculation returned.

Not feeling the hype right now. Every ounce of hype is reserved for Zelda atm. But I'm sure you'll see me in here more prominently in a few weeks.

I think after Zelda the floodgates will open. Nintendo not showing anything after Pikmin means they have big stuff to reveal for H2 or are leaving the big stuff for new hardware, which could be late 2023 or early 2024.One way or another a direct needs to happen soon though.

I disagree, give Zelda at minimum two weeks. Maybe a month before the next reveal/Direct.

Personally, I think the next thing is either going to be next gen reveal or a Pikmin 4 Direct.

Much as I'd love to see it, I don't think we're getting a Switch 2 reveal until early 2024. They're going to give TOTK plenty of time to sell, still have a decent (but not amazing) holiday lineup of some sort and squeeze out one last holiday shopping season before the next system is officially announced.

I'm torn on if we get a Direct in June. Pikmin 4 Direct makes complete sense, and I can definitely see doing either a Partner or just some twitter announcements or a combo of both and then doing the next General Direct in September. But I could also see them just doing a June Direct, too. I could go either way.

Great thread @Raccoon ! Finally have some time to write down some thoughts.

I think we have a normal holiday ahead. The lack of dated releases was specifically to get all eyes on Zelda and it’s certainly working. The exact release of limited information was carefully crafted to make this black hole that’s sucking in all of the hype into it leaving no room for anything else. Once Zelda has been out for two weeks things should start moving quickly across the industry and Nintendo as the rest of the year will be ready to be painted in.

There’s no new hardware this year. You’ll get a generic “we are always working on new hardware” message at the shareholders meeting, but that’s it. No way they do anything to disrupt Zelda at this point from being a massive success. Mario Kart DLC, Splatoon 3 support, and Pokemon DLC support have long pointed to me no new hardware was coming this year. Spring 2024 is likely the time. It’ll be announced in a random press release sometime after the June show and as late as October.

Ok the fun stuff now:

Metroid Prime 4 is finally shown. It’s the November game.

New 2D Mario Game Is Announced for September.

Mario Kart Wave 5 DLC is announced. I don’t know what we’ll get in preview here exactly (probably 2 tracks and a character), but ultimately it’ll be Athens, LA, Madrid/Vancouver, Koopa Cape, SNES Bowser Castle 3, DK Mountain GCN, Sunset Wilds, and Piranha Plant Cove. New Characters are Pauline and Petey Piranha. (Diddy, Dixie, and Funky are all saved for Wave 6 with a new DK course) Ultimately released in July.

F-Zero GX HD is real, shadowdropped in June.

Splatoon 3 Side Order given a release month, August.

Something Mario RPG related drops in August.

Zelda TK first major DLC is shown.

Fortune Street or Mario Baseball announced for October.

Mario Rabbids DLC is there.

Baiten Katos HD dated, Xenosaga HD announced.

Pikmin 4 multiplayer modes shown.

Donkey Kong teased for now, likely the other November game.

No shows are Pokemon DLC and Detective Pikachu 2.

Pretty nice and solid predictions, altough imo we aren't seeing 2K DK game this time, I believe the game is not that far to be actually released this year + launch alongside DK park opening in 2024 makes better sense (not really the same timeframe, just in the same year). Not to mention that them releasing their most notable franchises just 2 months from each other seems weird, but again Crafted World and Maker 2 released just 3 months from each other (however Yoshi was delayed).

Hell yeaaaahhhh finally Direct speculation!!

One week ahead of TotK. I ain't playing that at launch sadly, so I'll be needing future reassurance.

Please Nintendo at least put out a new Pikmin 4 trailer on Twitter or something.

Shadowdropping Metroid Prime Remastered, finishing Fire Emblem Engage DLC two months after the base game, releasing story expansion for Xeno 3 with no fanfare... They gotta be cooking some real big stuff for H2.

My bets are on 2D Mario(the movie already did 1 billion, a new game this year will be the equivalent to Sun/Moon the holiday after Pokémon GO) being the big holiday game. Metroid Prime 4 is up in the air for me, I think it's either holiday 2023 or spring 2024 or holiday 2024. Anyway I just wanna see it already, it's damn time. Put some remasters, DLC and a hit we don't have a clue yet and it's a phenomenal June Direct.

Donkey Kong EPD and Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War remake for H1 2024 is a safer bet for September Direct imo.

I keep going back and forth on DK. Sometimes it feels too much and sometimes it feels just right. Theme park synergy is a very real factor and could push it back to 2024 even if it was done, but at this exact moment I’m kind of feeling they could get away with it this year if it is ready. This is definitely my biggest prediction I’ll probably keep going back and forth on until the Direct drops lol.

Fully confident in Prime 4 at least being there in a big way and 2D Mario.

My only prediction that's anything interesting is if we get a June direct and it isn't tied to hardware (basically if 3d mario isn't there), DK is the closer. They're really pushing the Kongs rn, I could see DK considered a significant release for them. If we get new hardware this year everything changes for that though

...despite that I can't help but get this feeling we're getting nothing besides partners

June 2020, June 2022, June 2023

no june direct...?

I guess the obvious issue is there will never be another but I don't know people complained the September direct was content light so if they axe 1 spot the other 2 can prosper...? Idk

Yeah, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury was internally delayed and released alongside the Super Nintendo World even. I think they very much will want to have big news of DK all over the place. Might be way too early in 2024 to already announce the DK spin off of Super Mario Bros. Movie, but with movies everything works different so they can just put out an image of the movie title or mention it's in the works on a invertors meeting with a release year of 2026 or whatever. Would be pretty dope if we got the DK park and new game released next spring alongside the first teaser for DK Movie or SMBM2.

I think they'll finally show Metroid Prime 4 so I believe that's the most suitable closer. They might think June is too early to announce the H1 2024 games and close the September Direct with DK tho, I think that's a very likely scenario (and open with FE again lol). 3D Mario and new hardware is a tough spot. I don't think they'll tank the possible last holiday season of the Switch and the holiday season after TotK and Mario movie with hardware reveal. They can make 3D Mario a cross gen game and only reveal a teaser/cutscene of it for a holiday 2024 release tho, and only announce it's a Switch 2 game next spring alongside the console.

Bro you aren't gonna make us wait almost 10 years since Tropical Freeze only to give us a budget title arcade inspired game. Heck how do you make a DK94 2 without Mario and at that point...
