Wow, both SNES BC3 and GBA BC4 look incredible. From the visuals to the elevation to the split paths, it's obvious that a lot of effort was put into both of these remakes. Both tracks look like they were designed for MK8D. I'm excited to play BC3 in the BCP, and I hope BC4 somehow comes as well. I don't see why they would have put so much effort into it just to leave it rotting in Tour...

Honestly, it's starting to feel like they purposely "used up" some of the lower quality remakes early (Toad Circuit, Sky Garden, Shroom Ridge, Mario Circuit 3, Rock Rock Mountain) in order to save some obvious fan favorites for a second Booster Course Pass.

Given that Sky Garden and Shroom Ridge were likely designed with the BCP in mind to at least some degree, I don’t really agree with that line of thinking. A lot of the early Tour retros aren’t in the BCP, there’s been a pretty big focus on more recent ones.

I thought the new wave would come in August, but I'm starting to think it might come in late July.
According to datamine on Tour, we'll have a good chance to get MobDK or MobBR on Tour on July 26. So, given that a new wave should come in July or August, if there's actually a nitro coming to Tour on July 26, then we'll likely see that course debut in the BCP a few days prior to its release in Tour, like it happened with Sky High Sundae and Yoshi's Island. They can play on the "new content" aspect again this way, by adding a nitro track in the BCP first.

If mobDK is a Donkey Kong track (which is not guaranteed at all), I think it will be it because we might have rather Daisy Cruiser for the summer as the GCN track, so it will avoid having both a DK nitro track + Jungle Dino Dino/Mountain DK in wave 6.
If mobDK is not a Donkey Kong track, the mobBR track could be quite refreshing for the summer.

I’d be very surprised if we have to wait that long. The wait between each Wave has only gotten shorter over time, I dunno why they’d go from a 3 month wait to a 5 month wait. Given that there’s absolutely nothing planned for June, that feels like the sweet spot. Maybe early July.

Yoshi’s Island came out nearly a full month before its Tour debut, the simultaneous release theory is dead in the water.

I think they're aiming for a holiday release for Wave 6, so June might be too early. July makes the most sense IMO.

I’m also on Team July for Wave 5 with November/December for Wave 6. I also think June gets an F-Zero GX HD shadowdrop also so they won’t want two racing games in the same month.

I wouldn't be surprised at all personally, last year it was March - August - December. They will probably want to make the DLC last as long as possible, so until the end of the year.

I'm not talking about a simultaneous release but a bit earlier on the BCP than on Tour, like Yoshi's Island (almost a month before) and Sky High Sundae (about a week before).
I can imagine the same thing : the wave releasing with an exclusive new track, which arrives one or two weeks before the release of the track on Tour, on July 26th. They like to put the marketing emphasis on content intended for Tour as "exclusive", so I think it makes sense.

I dunno why we should immediately assume they want a repeat schedule. We have no idea what Nintendo’s H2 looks like, they might want the BCP out the door as quickly as possible for all we know.

Guess we just agree to disagree then. Early November is the latest I see it happening, I’m expecting October.

Double post, but the whole scheduling thing got me thinking a bit more. Yoshi's Island wasn't tied that closely to Wave 4, but we ultimately still had a Tour release coincide with it, this time being DS Mario Circuit. Nintendo isn't beholden to Tour's schedule, but we can probably use the ID updates to get a general idea of when the most likely weeks are for Wave 5. Generally, if the BCP features a Nitro track, they're probably gonna want to give it some time to breathe on its own before announcing it for Tour, but for retro tracks that doesn't seem to be the case. So, in other words, if the coinciding Tour track is an unannounced Nitro, then we're probably looking at Wave 5 releasing a week before it's respective Tour, while anything else can release either the week before or the week of.

Now, let's look at the ID updates Mondo so graciously gave us, starting from the middle of June:

June 14th - Mario Bros. / Mario Vs Luigi Tour: All of the existing Mario Circuits, plus Luigi Raceway, got updates alongside the Mario Raceway gap and the big GBA gap. This one would likely be where Luigi Circuit goes.

Unless the prefix and/or the music leak is a bust, this one is a no-go. There are no more N64 tracks, and the final GBA track is Sunset Wilds. Either of the GCN circuits seem fairly unlikely, and the Wii circuits are out too. So we can probably cross off everything up through June 17th.

June 28th - Jungle Tour: A bunch of tropical themed tracks (Cheep Cheep Lagoon, both Koopa Troopa Beaches, Dino Dino Jungle and Piranha Plant Cove) got increases alongside… the big GBA gap again. Given what we know, it is not impossible that this gap actually holds Lakeside Park. Sure would be fun if it turns out better than Riverside and 8DX passed over it…

The first one that seems pretty likely. If this is the coinciding Tour, then Piranha Plant Cove would likely be the headliner, with the new GBA track being introduced into Tour at the same time. They did the same thing last year, with Merry Mountain headlining the final Tour despite GBA Snow Land being new to the game. Given past precedent, this would probably place the release date on the week of the 18th although the week of the 25th can't be discounted either. Given that Nintendo likes to hold directs in the second week of June, this would line up perfectly with that as well for a full reveal.

Of course, this is all dependent on Piranha Plant Cove being in Wave 5, which is no guarantee.

July 12th - Summer Tour: With our new knowledge of how the Athens Tour turned out, seeing New York, Vancouver, Sydney and Singapore get ID upgrades alongside the gap between Paris and Singapore sure does seem to spell out Rio.

This is a tough one. They'd probably want to release a new City track in Tour first, rather than introducing it in the BCP. It's not impossible they do the latter, but I don't see it happening, personally. The release date would have to be the 13th or the 14th, and that would be right after its Tour introduction. Not impossible, but I don't think it's particularly likely.

July 26th - Wild West Tour (?): This one seems to have a weird mix of desert tracks and Daisy tracks, and potentially either mobbr or mobdk? It’s a weird mix and nobody is really sure to make of it. That also goes for the next Tour afterwards:

On paper, this would be a perfect fit. Release the new track in the BCP (I've seen speculation that it's actually Super Mario Land themed, which would be sick) and then drop it in Tour the following week. Only problem is that the week before is booked: they aren't gonna release Mario Kart 8 DLC the same week as Pikmin 4. That would force them to release it the week of, something that they've seemingly been avoiding (likely to give the "new track" label more meaning). Just like the last one, it's not impossible, but there's a lot working against it.

August 9th - Sundae Tour (?): This one will see the return of Sky High Sundae, and a bunch of snow / ice themed tracks; but there’s no real indication of a new track to go alongside them. Current speculation would be RMX Vanilla Lake 2, as it would be the last listed RMX course and as such would have no visible gap.

This one is probably out. Nothing here to really coincide with what we're likely getting in Wave 5. If June 17th is the lower bound, then I'd say that July 29th is the upper bound. I don't see it bleeding into mid-August, and there's nothing here that would really tie into what we're getting.

Of course, the ID updates can change still, there could easily be a few surprises, but from this, if I had to guess, we're looking at one of the following options.
  • Releases the week of 6/18 or 6/25, Piranha Plant Cove is one of the tracks included
  • Releases the week of 7/2 or 7/9, Rio is one of the tracks included
  • Releases the week of 7/23, one of the currently unrevealed tracks is included
I'd say the first option (6/18 with Piranha Plant Cove) is the most likely option given the circumstances surrounding everything else. Rest of Wave 5 is rounded out with Los Angeles, the commonly speculated Retros, and two of Vancouver, Athens, and whatever the new track releasing in July is.

I'm curious, if we get a Rio track, will they show Christ the Redeemer? In Bangkok we see some other deities right? So I think it would not be a problem?

From a marketing standpoint, it doesn't make sense for Nintendo not to debut a new Tour nitro in Wave 5 imo
Wave 1 and 3 were different cases, because the tracks were already in Tour. They put Ninja Hideaway in the first wave, then they obviously saved Merry Mountain for Wave 3.

So, I'm going for a release date prediction between July 10 and July 23, before the release of the nitro track on Tour on July 26th.

I feel like replacing christ with mario or toad or something might draw some ire

imo just leave it in, it's an important real-world landmark. though honestly, if I were in charge of tour rio de janeiro wouldn't have been in consideration for this reason lol

How confident are we that the course in the Paris to Singapore gap is Rio? Between Rome, Seoul, Shanghai, and Sao Paulo as a Brazilian substitute for Rio, I feel like Rio shouldn't be considered much of a frontrunner unless there's more evidence.

Rome is probably out of the equation (Athens has similar features), but the other cities have a chance. Seoul would be pretty cool!

It's sounding like Mushroom Bridge will be the one to appear next Tour. While the gap could feasibly hold three GCN tracks, it's probably over for Mushroom City in 8DX at this point, as sad as it is to say.

Any particular reason why it’s Bridge? Not all that surprised, but I don’t keep up with Tour datamines so I’d be interested in hearing why.

If it’s also coming to the BCP, I could see Nintendo pushing it into Wave 5 and moving either Sunset Wilds or Bowser’s Castle 3 to Wave 6. The latter would make a lot of sense if they don’t have any other Bowser tracks planned.

EDIT: I'm assuming you're talking about this? Curious where these datamines came from. Gonna spoiler tag the stuff so people here can read it, the spreadsheet isn't particularly mobile friendly.
Dates are for when the Tour starts. Italicized names are unconfirmed.
  • GCN Mushroom Bridge, Piranha Plant Cove 3, and maybe GCN Waluigi Stadium (5/17)
  • Wii Daisy Circuit and GBA Peach Circuit (5/31)
  • N64 Mario Raceway and GBA Luigi Circuit (6/14)
  • GBA Lakeside Park (6/28)
  • Tour Rio Blast (7/12)
  • Sarasaland Temple (7/26)
    • mobDK almost certainly stands for mobDaisyKingdom if this is true, which makes a ton of sense
  • Bathroom Run(8/9)
    • Surprised that we're apparently getting two new tracks back-to-back
  • GCN Sherbet Land (8/23)
    • Guess the Sundae Tour got pushed back a slot
  • Wii Moonview Highway (9/6)
  • Anniversary Tour (9/20)
That's a lot of new tracks that won't be making their way to the BCP.

It may not be the course I was looking forward to, but I'm still looking forward to that sweet, sweet remix...

Nah, this is just speculation based on most of the same speculatory ID analysis I talked about back here:

Think it’s a good time to catch everyone up to speed on what the ID updates indicate for the upcoming slate of Tours. Last time the major miss was assuming the Metropolitan and Athens Tours would be separate; instead the Spring Tour was both (existing European cities + Athens 1 and 2; all city tracks). Keep that in mind just in case some of the assumptions here aren’t fruitful.

If anyone is still lost on what these IDs are; they correspond to image files for each course. Existing courses get ID increases when they return too, since they’ll have new preview images with different top shelf drivers. Combining old track increases with new track increases occurring at the same time, we can approximately guess the theme of the Tour. They’ve been preparing Tours earlier ahead of time than in the past recently, and have mostly been recycling Tour names / themes since last year, which is what makes this a little easier to guess at.
  • May 3rd - Bowser Tour: All existing Bowser related courses (GBA BC 1-3, 3DS BC, Neo Bowser City, Airship Fortress) got ID updates at the same time as the SNES BC and GBA BC 4 gaps. With this and the announced Koopaling Mii Suits it is very safe to lock this one in as happening.
  • May 17th - Piranha Plant Tour (?): The theme is a bit of shot in the dark (the first Piranha Plant Tour was Piranha Plant Pipeway’s debut) but what can be seen at least is that Waluigi Stadium and Piranha Plant Cove 3 received ID updates at the same time. The returning courses don’t seem particularly related to the theme (some SNES and Wii courses, and Luigi’s Mansion), but that’s never been a requirement.
  • May 31st - Wedding / Peach Vs Daisy Tour (?): Some existing Peach tracks (Royal Raceway and Peach Gardens) received ID increases alongside the Daisy Circuit gap and the massive GBA gap. This gap is speculated to hold at least three tracks, and the only one we know of for certain is Luigi Circuit; meaning that Peach Circuit could be on the table here.
  • June 14th - Mario Bros. / Mario Vs Luigi Tour: All of the existing Mario Circuits, plus Luigi Raceway, got updates alongside the Mario Raceway gap and the big GBA gap. This one would likely be where Luigi Circuit goes.
  • June 28th - Jungle Tour: A bunch of tropical themed tracks (Cheep Cheep Lagoon, both Koopa Troopa Beaches, Dino Dino Jungle and Piranha Plant Cove) got increases alongside… the big GBA gap again. Current speculation would be RMX Vanilla Lake 2, as it would be the last listed RMX course and as such would have no visible gap.

One prominent dataminer on the Tour Discords figured out how to access assests for new Tours over a week beforehand, and confirmed the next Tour (likely labeled Mii Tour) will feature Mushroom Bridge and Piranha Plant Cove 3 (the ID speculation remaining true, just guessing the wrong GC track before).

We already have 3DS DK Jungle, so I'd rather have some Mario Land representation honestly. Give me that big band Birabuto Kingdom remix, please and thank you.

That's probably the big headliner for Wave 5, just a matter of when now, and whether they double down on nitros with Piranha Plant Cove in the same wave.

Ah, good to know. That's disappointing. Any particular reason for the new mobBR speculation before the Sundae Tour?

Ah, good to know. That's disappointing. Any particular reason for the new mobBR speculation before the Sundae Tour?

Moving that far out there's a level of interpretation needed to figure out which tracks are part of which Tour (in contrast to say, the current Bowser Tour, where the Tour discords had already figured it all out down to the returning tracks, including Kalimari Desert 2, weeks ahead of time); so the guesses become a little less tangible when you get into the August-September range. BR and DK have been mostly getting updates simultaneously, and DK only recently pulled ahead as the one with slightly more IDs, but it is pretty difficult to imagine them releasing one Tour apart, which is the main source for hesitation for some.

I'd rather Sarasaland instead of a new DK track, hopefully we get DK Mountain + Sarasaland to appease everyone.

That's a lot of new tracks that won't be making their way to the BCP.
I take a few issues with this. Why would Daisy Cruiser appear in a Wild West Tour? And why would Bathroom Run appear in an Ocean Tour?

That’d be really cool to get a Mario Land track. I kept trying to think what a new DK track would look like that wasn’t covered by DK Jungle. Maybe an arcade Donkey Kong track would be neat, but I’d wonder why they didn’t go with New Donk City at that point.

Yeah Mushroom Bridge bring such a simple track this late in the BCP would be a letdown. Hoping that Maple Treeway messing with the prefixes means we only have 2 GCN tracks to go rather than 3.

I really don't think it's Sarasaland. There's no evidence pointing towards it. I'm still thinking it's a DK track.

Fuck.

At least that means higher odds for an even better remake in MK10.

Uhh, this might be our first sign that the Booster Course Pass will continue after Wave 6. GCN Rainbow Road was datamined for Tour and it has an asset that indicates that anti-gravity will be part of the track.

Yo I hope so! I would not mind at all 24-48 more new tracks. So many good ones haven’t been used yet.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will be Nintendo's forever game. Absolutely bonkers if this comes to pass. Never thought I'd be playing this game this far out, but I truly love that my favorite Mario Kart gets to grow and grow like this.

Knowing what we know about Waves 5 and 6, what are your top five retro courses that you want in, but didn’t make the cut for the first BCP?

For me it’s:

1 Bowser’s Castle Wii
2 Airship Fortress DS
3 Bowser’s Castle N64
4 Delfino Square DS
5 Desert Hills DS

There’s room here still on the mysterious GameCube front, but when the Booster Course Pass was announced with Wave 1, I made a top 40 retro Mario Kart tracks list I wanted to see added to 8 Deluxe without any Tour stuff since I hadn’t played the game and thus far only eight have made the cut including some of the datamined courses. For me personally at least, there is a world of room for a Booster Course Pass 2 lol.

The thing is that I don't particularly think that Tour is just a game made for porting a bunch of tracks to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It's its own game with its own merits (and detriments, sure) and it deserves its own tracks.
Also: "BrTour" could easily be Brasília.
