Rumour Let's predict Nintendo's 2023 lineup!

These are hard lol. Nintendo is so hard to predict. I guess I'll try since everyone cares about my random opinion on the internet (I'm kidding):

-Advance Wars (casually dropped, quickly forgot about by Nintendo)
-1-2 Switch Sequel (The most anticipated sequel of all time. Will take the world by storm and forever change the dynamic of the human race)
-Metroid Prime Remake/Remaster (if not a surprise 2022 launch)(BELIEVE)
-The Sequel to the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild TM (NINTENDO GIVE US A NAME ALREADY, LIKE DAMN GIRL!!!)
-Fire Emblem: The Electric Boogloo (placeholder name)
-DLC for Splatoon 3, more Mario Kart Booster Pack maps, DLC for Xenoblade Chronicles 3
-Donkey Kong: New Donk in Bonk City (placeholder name)
-A New Pokemon Game (YEAH!!!)
-Mario Movie Trailer (Chris Pratt is SO COOL!!!)
-Something with Mario in it. (Could be a new Mario game, a sports game, spinoff, adult animated series, WHO KNOWS!!)
-Dragon Quest III HD Re-Make (because my imagination is running out when it comes to what I think Nintendo will release in 2023 so a third party game)

While I would love the Zelda HD Remasters, all the Metroid Prime games, a new Star Fox or old ones ported over, Yoshi's Wooly World, etc etc, I'm just not personally thinking any of these are coming. That being said, I'm sure Nintendo will have at least a couple fun surprises planned for 2023 and I look forward to finding out. :)

The fun part about next year is we're back to being mostly in the dark. We have BOTW2, probably FE, and... what? It could be almost anything. I still think it's too early for MP4, which leaves us not knowing anything at all after Spring. Probably a Pokemon game in November, as usual, either DLC or another remake, I guess. But I have no idea what else we'll be getting in 2023, and that's kind of exciting.

For DLC support I'd expect: MK8D waves 4-6, and major expansions for Splatoon 3, Xenoblade 3, Mario + Rabbids 2, and Pokemon S/V throughout the year

For new games I'll break it down by quarter. Going for 12 games overall published by Nintendo.

Q1:
February: Mainline Fire Emblem
March: BotW2

Q2:
April: Pokemon spinoff (Detective Pikachu?)
May: Casual game from EPD4 or ND Cube
June: ARMS 2

Q3:
July: Switch exclusive Asano game (DQ3?)
July: Captain Toad 2 from NST
September: EPD7 production (Tomodachi? Rhythm Heaven?)
September: New game from Grezzo (Possibly non-Zelda?)

Q4:
October: Metroid Prime 4
October: A new Mario Sports Mix (maybe Bamco developed?)
November: Mainline Mario, either 2D (EPD10) or 3D (EPD8)

Okay here’s mine, I’m no particular order:

BOTW2
Advance Wars (I don’t think it makes 2022)
New Mario Game
New F-Zero (new hardware exclusive?) (not joking)
I think we finally see a new Rhythm Heaven
EarthBound HD2D Remake
Metroid Prime 4
that new Fire Emblem

Octopath Traveller 2, a new Nintendo rpg ip, FF Tactics and Xenoblade expansion on a stand alone physical release

Depends on the sept direct I suppose, but so far I am expecting

  • BOTW2
  • Pokémon SV DLC (no way they go back on that change from SS imo)
  • Rest of MK Booster Pass, Splatoon 3 and XB3 Expansions
  • M+R 2 DLC
  • 2D Mario
  • Return of DK
  • Advance Wars rises from the grave
  • Bamco Mario Sports (Baseball pls)
  • Grezzo / praying for Oracle remakes perhaps announced for early 2024
  • Pikmin 4 (will never stop hoping)

Would almost agreed but at least for me…

January- Fire Emblem: Engage

March- Metroid Prime 1 HD/Mario Kart DLC Wave 4
April- Tomadochi Life / maaaaybe Advance Wars
May- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Ok! I’ll give this my best shot while throwing in a hope or dream or two, but first housecleaning! If Everybody 1-2 Switch isn’t cancelled it’s September. We then have Prime Remaster in November and Advance Wars sneaking in for December.

January: Leaked Fire Emblem
February: Dragon Quest III HD 2D
March: New Mario Platformer Of Some Sort
April: New Gen 2 Hardware and Breath of the Wild 2 launch together. Also Mario Kart Wave 4 and the Mario Movie hit this month.
May: New F-Zero (look how extra shiny it is on Gen 2 hardware!) and Detective Pikachu 2

Not doing bad so far. Got Fire Emblem right in January, got an HD2D game right for February, but the wrong one. Off by a month for BOTW2.

Reimagining my predictions after the Direct:
January: Fire Emblem Engage
February: Kirby Returns to Dreamland Deluxe
March: Metroid Prime Remastered + Switch Pro, Mario Kart DLC
April: Everybody 1-2 Switch or maybe nothing
May: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
June: Super Mario 2D game(late June)
July: Splatoon 3 DLC, F-Zero GX HD
August: Pikmin 4, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Story DLC/standalone
September: something surprising and yet to be announcing, maybe RingFit Adventure 2 or Donkey Kong by EPD Tokyo
October: Super Mario Party 2, and one core focused game
November: Either Super Mario 3D Next or Pokémon Legends 2; Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC, maybe Resident Evil Switch? Don't see them having third versions of S/V as those are pretty huge open world games, I totally expect DLC like Sword/Shield got, but maybe Game Freak had a sequel to Arceus in the plans. Resident Evil Switch can come in the holidays after the 4 storm is already March and maybe 2024 will have 9 already. Super Mario 3D game feels like the right holiday game for a non-Pokemon holiday tho.

Obs:
Metroid Prime 4 is early 2024; Astral Chain 2 is 2024; Luigi's Mansion 4 is 2024; Resident Evil Switch can be early 2024; either Mario or DK can be early 2024.

November: Pokemon DLC (Game Freak).
Animal Crossing: Party Plaza (NdCube).

December: Style Savvy: Design Some Clothes or Whatever, Losers (Syn Sophia).
I got the months wrong for Zelda and Fire Emblem; I got it right that there'd be a HAL game in February, but it's a remaster presumably mostly handled by Vanpool; I didn't have Pikmin 4; I do have F Zero making a comeback but not as a GX remaster, which is rumoured.

I think we will start to see Nintendo focus on bi-monthly releases to give bigger titles more prominence in the zeitgeist.

2020-2022 has shown that Nintendo don't need to release a blockbuster title every month, and their first-party titles like AC stay relevant for months.

I expect 2023 to be a big year for Nintendo, especially is Switch Pro releases, but I think we will start to see fewer titles release from them in general.

I don’t see that personally, we were already looking at a fairly low output from Nintendo in 2020 and 2021 and yet they followed that up with a packed 2022 lineup. We’ll get fewer new games in 2023+, but I’d expect those holes to be plugged with remasters.

If they can get within spitting distance in power with their next system then I expect -some- more prominent 3rd party support to help with their release calendar. They really won't need a big game every month. It does beg the question that if they sit on finished games and release FEWER of them then some of their titles will probably sit on a hard drive for years lol.

Nintendo released fewer games in 2022 than either 2021 or 2020. 2022 had fewer games than any Switch year apart from 2017.

The difference, to be sure, can be attributed to a few things: Advance Wars and possibly other games pulled from release (1-2 Switch sequel?), no re-releases, no Labo kits, and so far, only 1 eShop title.

Ah, that explains it. Wasn’t counting their smaller eShop endeavors or their Labo-type stuff.

The output for 2022 is definitely a bit lower than I initially thought now that I look at it, but I think a big part of that is due to the overwhelming majority of content this year coming in the form of high budget original titles, rather than the deluge of ports/remasters we’ve gotten the previous two years. Definitely a bit of a perception skewer.

I would never have guessed 2022 had fewer games than 2021, let alone 2020.
2022 looks like some mega packed year because what was released were some pretty high budget first party titles in Xenoblade 3, Splatoon 3, Bayonetta 3 and Pokémon Legends Arceus and Scarlet/Violet. The year really delivered in quality now that we look at it. I think 2023 will be stellar as well and have some major remasters.

Also, Zelda got delayed. That’s a big one, I think.

2022 is surprising because we knew the entire year's lineup by February right after the Direct and the Pokémon SV announcement. Zelda was delayed but nothing seemed to get added to the lineup to cover it unless we get a last minute announcement for a release of like Prime HD or 1-2 Switch.

No E3 makes sense then if there wasnt any 2nd half game to announce. Nintendo had Xenoblade 3, Splatoon 3, Bayonetta 3, Mario + Rabbids 2, and Pokémon SV as their lineup.

Gonna include overall predictions just for fun (directs and games)

January- FE Engage
February- Octopath II and Kirby

Late February has a Pokemon Presents where they end my suffering and announce Detective Pika2, and detail a SV expansion (like SwSh it'll have two packs, this time July and November)

March/April-- light months. It starts with a direct mini where the only first party announcements are everybody's 1-2 switch and Kid Icarus HD. Everyone says Nintendo is doomed and they'll never be successful again. The only releases in this time are Everybody's 1-2 Switch and Mario Kart DLC, as well as Xenoblade 3's next wave.

May- Zelda, and people forget the drought they just went through.

June-- Actual E3, MP HD is finally announced and they say "sorry pls wait for MP4 uwu"

E3's major announcement is Donkey Kong. Pikmin 4 gets a proper blowout and they theme their e3 treehouse setup after it. If they really love me, Fire Emblem Genealogy remake is here, but gets a soft "2024" release date

Nothing else releases in June but that's okay-- people are still playing Zelda.

July-- Kid Icarus Uprising HD and
Pokémon SV DLC Expansion 1

On a random morning in July, Nintendo releases a weird commercial for a Super Switch, launching alongside Donkey Kong in October. Miyamoto gets on screen and says "His Kong dong was too strong, so we needed more processing power"

August- Detective Pika2 (the only game I want)
September- Kid Icarus Uprising HD

September Direct, we finally see the WW/TP HD ports. F-Zero GX is here. GBC/GB for base NSO, GBA and, weirdly enough, Turbo Grafx get announced for for expansion pass.

October- Donkey Kong and Super Duper Drake Switch
November-- Pokémon SV DLC Expansion 2
December- Metroid Prime HD

100% this won't happen but I had fun 😂

the doomposting will be so damn strong, and tbh if it happens even i would be disappointed.

I dont think it will actually happen tbh, i think nintendo will show some footage for hiring calls.

Still, imagine saying to someone in june of 2017 that it would take us potentially until idk february of 2024 until we get our first look into mp4 lmao. Or worse, e3 2024.

I think I remember listening to NVC in 2018 or so and they were like, man we may not get this game until 2020. Maybe even 2021. And everyone thought that was insane lol

Tbf we probably would have if the game didn't restart development.

Idk if I think Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War remake will be late 2023 or early 2024 tbh.
The other thing that bugs me is which of the bunch of 2D Mario, 3D Mario and 2D DK will come next year and which will slip to 2024. DK and 3D Mario months apart(supposed to be consecutive months even) already happened so that sounds like the likelier scenario. At the same time it'll be too long without a new 2D Mario.

3D DK 😀

I dont know. Giving the rumours, there will be a new Donkey Kong. There will be a new Pokemon and probably something Kirby. Maaaybe a Fire Emblem Remake. And of course Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. Advance Wars Reboot Camp could be as well.

I also think that Nintendo will close the release gaps with the rumoured Game-Cube Remasters of Metroid Prime, F- Zero, Twilight Princess, Wind Waker and more eventually. But all if this will probably drag into 2024/2025.

Surprise Releases: Kid Icarus Uprising, Golden Sun Re, Astral Chain 2, Lego Mario, Mario Baseball, Fighters Pass 3 for SSBU, Xenoblade Warriors and Battalion Warriors: Advance Warfare.

The big question for me is when to expect Xenoblade 3 Wave 4, and if it will get a standalone release like Torna did.

So... no new 3D Mario? t-t

Even tho that would mean the EPD Tokyo 2D action game hirings would be for a 2D Mario(co-developed with 10)... so ummmm...
Maybe it's 3D DK, 2D Mario (Tokyo) and 2D something else (10)?

OTOH is it possible the 2D hiring calls were for a hybrid 2D and 3D Mario game by Tokyo, like Odyssey but with half 2D levels instead of being about 1/10th mini 2D levels? In that scenario maybe 10 is doing DK for a change of pace?

But I'm just spitballing; I agree 2D or 2.5D DK (Tokyo) is likeliest with 3D Mario (Tokyo) and 2D Mario (10).

Anyway, I really hope to see at least 2 of these games release next year, and I agree all 3 in one year is unfortunately less likely. We also have a possibility of a 2D Good-Feel game next year, which leans me more to only getting 2D Mario or 2D DK next year, plus 3D Mario.

I can't believe I didn't see this thread before. It's the perfect place to continue my quest to bring Eternal Darkness back to reality. This will be next years Halloween game. As I always say, remake? Remaster? Remakester? Sequel? Prequel? Rerelease? Yes, please. I have a good feeling this time. Nintendo has been doing more things with their Gamecube games, and they know we (I) want Eternal Darkness to come back. I mean, it's perfect. Let's do it.

Eternal Darkness is never coming back due to a problematic (to say the least) dev.

I know they were/are problematic, but they have been completely removed from the IP and Nintendo can give it to someone else, say Retro, and then it won't be associated with anyone from Silicon Knights. Nintendo owns the IP, so Dyack and anyone else associated with him won't see a dime from it, as it should be. This is especially true if they remake it, which they should so that the sanity effects will be Switch related and not Gamecube related.

They would have to list them in the credits, and just bringing the IP back could be controversial because of it.
