Rumour Images of Switch OLED Tears of the Kingdom Edition have leaked

We knew waaaaaay more about the NX than we do about this new Drake hardware.

Prior to Switch reveal trailer, which dropped roughly 6 months before launch, we knew the form factor of the device, its hybrid nature, a solid estimate of its power, and the detachable Joycons functionality.

In comparison to Drake, we do not have nearly as much info. The fact that we donโ€™t even know the dimensions or rough size of the device, or any info about controllers, solid confirmed games in development for the device, etc, in December 2022 (let alone back in October 2022) is what led me to believe we were not getting a successor or pro for the launch with Zelda.

Now there was a possibility for some reveal next month since the rough reveal to release pipeline would have aligned with the Switch reveal and launch, but this OLED model might have just put the final nail in that coffin.

There could still be a new device that launches alongside this OLED model and the OG Switch effectively becomes the budget sku to the Drake, but thatโ€™s a hard reach. Donโ€™t see that happening.

The suggestion is that the Switch Successor has gimmicks or features that would not be doable on the current Switch or simply weren't designed for the successor. The Twilight Princess cross-gen had less refined motion controls compared to Skyward Sword, which would not have been doable on GC at the time(that and it released when the GC was dead). Fast Forward to BotW, the gyro features were doable on cross-gen. Other features like VR were simply add-ons and can be considered as "DLC" and not something needed for the core experience. So the obvious thought is that TotK was built from the ground up as a Switch exclusive, and perhaps, the successor would not properly be showcased if it was released as a cross-gen game.

I don't say it's fake but it's a bit weird that the Triforce on the dock is just a cutout of the one on the cover of the Legend of Zelda: Arts & Artifacts book

Fear not, my friend

too bad they didnโ€™t do the teal ouroboros in metallic or something

Iโ€™m not a big fan of editions like this but I am laughing very hard about the implied confirmation

We knew way, way more about the Switch (or NX as it was known back then) before its reveal than we know about the successor.
Not really, but since it was the drastic change into the joycons and they were the first to give details....

Hopefully between this and the other recent rumors we can collectively enjoy what software the Switch is receiving in early 2023 without everything being about a successor.
I wish I had your optimism, but every single thing Nintendo releases next year is going to be blighted by 'Yeah but imagine if this was on Switch 2' discourse. Heck it's happening with TOTK before our eyes and that isn't even out yet. We're absolutely going to get some hot takes both from gamers and reviewers come May marking TOTK down purely because Nintendo had the audacity not to release a new console in 2023.

Idk how this got no likes.. It is probably fake y'all.
We are 5 months out. There is no way anyone in retail or that works at Nintendo has one currently. They probably just started making them or haven't started yet. It's not like a launch system they don't need to make 2 millions of those for launch.

As for the "lowest rated Zelda game"... boy. We never thought Botw was going to be the game with the most perfect score in history. Yes it will most definitely be rated lower since it is a sequel to a groundbreaking game and has immense shoes to fill on how people want to see the game go from the previous one.

For example, MM suffered a bit from that as well and even if critically it is less praised than OoT, i see a lot of people who prefer that game over the other. I think the same will happen to ToTK. It won't rave the critics as much cause it will take engine and elements of Botw. But in the whole dev cycle, i doubt the game will be rushed and unimpressive enough for it to score lower than the average 3D Zelda games. It will be probably be around 92-95 metacritic.

I don't think they were saying it'd be rated low because it's a sequel, pretty sure they meant it would be rated lower than it should because of it not releasing on new hardware, as several Switch games over the past year or two have had it explicitly stated in their reviews that the hardware was "holding the games back."

Which is a very cynical outlook, I'm aware. But as someone who was closely watching stuff for Bayo3 and XB3, it does feel like a bit of a pattern with the reviewers. ๐Ÿ˜…

all dooming aside this isn't an unlikely outcome at all
Animal Crossing special edition tweeted out in January, Direct in mid February for the game releasing in March. And Zelda is all the way in May. Not impossible! In fact it may even be likely!

Glad to see TotK launching with new hardware after all. The gold looks nice!
Damn I wanted to be the first to make that joke

Imagine being upset about reality not fitting the narrative yall built for the past 4
years, despite multiple evidence pointing that Nintendo wonโ€™t release a successor anytime soon

If the game really ends up being the lowest rated 3D Zelda purely due to reviewers getting harsh about it due to the hardware it runs on, it would be truly unprecedented. Like a proof of how social media can influence the public opinion. It probably wonโ€™t happen though, the game is bound to run at the very least on par with BOTW, itโ€™s the first Zelda made from the ground up on Switch after all

Anyway I just hope the game has dungeons

This is a relief in one way for me as I bought the OLED Splatoon edition after selling my Mariko Switch. This means no special next gen Zelda Switch edition I have to buy and tbh, I like the design of the Splatoon OLED best so far.

Silently hoping this means some kind of announcement and/or trailer will be heading out way soon.

I'm a solid bit drunk after a successful night at a casino, but lots of this talk is 100% identical to BOTW and Switch release. Pure disappointment at stuff we know little about. Ok passing out byeee

More like tears of the fans who want their games to run and look good....
I've realized it is foolish to want anything to be better than it is. you can choose to consume or not to consume, but hoping for things to be better is a waste of energy better spent elsewhere

its not like I want to raise people hope, but this is fake. The 2nd sentance has a bad patern compared with other specials editions switches (starting with edition?). And why is based on the european edition instead of american or japanese?

This so much. That chase of bigger and better instead of enjoying what you have seems very tiring to me. And it is also annoying to constantly hear about it. The "bigger, better, faster"-race is something that can never be won, simply because stuff can always improve. That's why we have new hardware and new iterations of existing hardware.

I will have a much easier time just putting this game out of my mind than trying to will things I can't control

as the poster boy for it I implore everyone who reads this not to become attached to things that you can do nothing about. it will poison your minds and harm you emotionally

if you read this and think "lol that's crazy I'm not that unstable" then you're not the type of person I'm talking about or to

I said this in the main Nintendo ST but whether you thought a Switch Pro/2 was coming this year, a Zelda OLED was one of the most likeliest things to predict. They don't release special editions for brand new consoles that will sell out at launch anyways. They are meant to bolster the sales of older versions.

pre-orders for the special edition drop at the same time as pre-orders for the game? Was that the case for Pokemon, Bowser's Fury and Splatoon?

Edit: The second sentence seems correct for the french translation if we compare it to the Scarlet/Violet edition.

I'd be more inclined to buy it if it wasn't just oled. Still have my launch switch and no need to replace it.

We'll get a brief trailer in February and some gameplay footage in April if we're lucky.
I get that covid up ended a lot of things, but we really know so little about this game now, compared to how much we knew about breath of the wild around the same time. But yes, crossing my fingers for february!

It should be real, someone already leaked it only with text description on Dec. 19th, and today another person leaked those pics, saying he took photos while doing the international logistic checking stuff. The text and photos match perfectly.
The first leak guy also said "if you don't believe me, it's ok, let's wait until end of March", guess this should be the time of announcement? Or even, the time of TotK Direct?

I honestly think they're just playing it safe by saying the end of their fiscal year, which is March 31st, 2023.

makes sense to release a special edition Zelda switch (been predicting it) as Switch is still selling and this will spur sales for the rest of the year with the ordinary hardware.

I'm not at all swayed by the use of past art. It's an enduring symbol of the series in that specific form and has appeared on a lot of products.
