Okay, let's try this.
The existing Switch will be Nintendo's "main business" heading into 2024.
The existing Switch, obviously, refers to the extant hardware configuration(s) we currently know as "the Switch." I am open to arguments that this is somehow referring to a different Switch altogether.
The idea that the current hardware will be Nintendo's "main business" indicates simply that other areas of business are not usurping it during the stated duration. Such other prospects could be new hardware -- and even then, this might not be considered as removing the extant Switch as the main business until its actual release, allowing for announcement and marketing. Other aspects of business could also include film initiatives and/or theme parks, but it seems incredibly unlikely for these to take precedence such that the caveat needs made. Video games are Nintendo's focus, and right now that means the Switch.
"Heading into 2024" is not particularly specific, except that it
doesn't indicate this will be the case throught the 2024 calendar year; while it doesn't explicitly necessitate that this course be altered within the year, it notably leaves that possibility open. Further, "heading into 2024" does not specify any particular time frame beyond what has already occurred.* In any case, this could end as soon as the next Nintendo Direct, or the next investors' meeting, or some random Twitter note, etc cetera. Likewise, it means little enough that the whole year could go by, since it doesn't explicitly say something else will be supplanting the current Switch.
"Main business" is somewhat interesting because it's set in quotation marks, specifically setting it apart as [a translation of] words that were actually said. We can infer that the rest was paraphrased, so we don't have the direct text; nevertheless, for our current purposes, we take it at its word.
*"Will be" does indicate a sense of going forward, but, between everything being vague as is and the likelihood the original statement was similarly vague but with subtle differences, I wouldn't hinge an interpretation on it. Besides, that going forward can end at any time, especially given we're already heading into/in 2024.
Further, reference to a "current Switch" doesn't necessarily indicate the next console will keep the same branding, nor does it necessarily preclude a new version of the Switch we know being released, so long as it's not substantially different. This terminology was also not set in quotation marks.
In short, it says a lot less than many people seem to give it credit for, but that seems common with all such statements.
The company's plan for the next fiscal year will be shared at its next earnings briefing.
This is a standard nothing statement. The company's plan for the next fiscal year beginning in April is always going to be shared at this meeting, regardless of whether there's anything worth noting.
In short, the statement as paraphrased to us, and likely also as initially given, says a lot of nothing, as such statements are wont to do.
But, hey, it's happening.
