StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (New Staff Post, Please read)

I mean, with that logic, what’s the need for like lampshades, and home decor in general? I’m sure some people would just prefer having an easier way to charge their Switch Lite with something visually nicer than a simple cable hanging on their nightstand.
I get your point. My wife has a nice bedside stand for her Samsung Flip. Mine just has a USB C shoved up in it. Style points for her?

The original DevKit (which is still being sold to developers) had a different shape and different outputs (e.g. ethernet) than the retail version. So maybe this is not a DevKit but a TestKit with final form factor.
Yeah, if these are being shipped outside of Nvidia and Nintendo, this makes sense.

I know we discussed this at length over the weekend, but this particular quote stuck out to me.

"according to sources close to the manufacturing centres across Asia"

Could we attribute this to a new funcle (factory uncle, for the uninitiated), or anything else noteworthy?

Sounds to me like a rewording of the Bloomberg article where they said the analyst had spoken to companies within the supply chain - or something like that.

I think linking Insider Gaming is now allowed here.

😆 🤣 😂 😹 gotta love Super Metal Dave. Although he did some good research for one of his previous video, he is back to his nonsense again. He has a new video out now where he did some 'research' and he think there is two options for the Switch 2. The first is of course the T239. The other option is a Samsung Xclipse 940 GPU. And this GPU has the AMD RDNA3 architecture.

Lol if you knew SMD he does his best to ship Nintendo with AMD. I remember back in the day where he sworn up and down that the Switch was powered by AMD.

I wouldn't be surprised he has a tattoo that looks like this:

Nintendo
+
AMD
forever❤️

Did he ever backpedal when it was announced Switch was going with Nvidia? How long did it take him to go through the 6 stages of grief? I have zero interest in giving him views, so be curious what else is in his mindset, let alone what possessed him to think Nintendo are going with a Samsung GPU that is AMD-based.

Actually the best move to overcome this I've seen was ironically Labo VR. The flying mini game had you use a cardboard pedal to flap the wings in your pedal-bird-plame that had a fan attached. When you repeatedly stepped on it, it would blow air in your face. This somehow worked extremely well to help trick your brain into believing you were moving.

That is quite an ingenious implementation actually. Wonder if a similar approach could work for a racing game with the "wind" blowing towards your face to give a sense of speed.

AYANEO Flip,

Has a Vapour Chamber + fan for their windows handheld, instead of a two/three heatpipes + fan. While I think the switch 2 will stick to the latter, I'm curious what the costs would be for AYANEO for this cooling system alone, as VC has been used for smartphones (small area) and laptops/GPUs (bigger area) or boutique PC components.
The only console with a VC is the series X, so I'm curious how this handheld would compare to others when it comes to heat dissipation + noise, I expect both of them to be lower 🤔 .

That's a chunky thing.
Tbf most of these things are outside of the super low powered “retro” handhelds. All of the portable PC likes from the Deck on have been quite a bit bigger than the Switch.

Still it’s gonna be big especially with 2 screens. Think about how chunky the first gen DS or 3DS models felt. It’s also why I’m not a huge fan of some of this stuff. I love portables, but the size and comfort does matter to me.

Not that this is abnormal, but I wasn't expecting them to talk about this until a potential Direct or the investors meeting

i see, so it seens Nintendo will talk about future Super Nintendo World expansions on the shareholders meeting/fiscal report(they will problaby confirm Legend of Zelda, Pokemon e Luigi Mansion is coming to Super Nintendo World)

So no Switch 2 at the meeting? Let’s start doomposting!/s
"So to recap, new Legend of Zelda movie! Super Nintendo World will be greatly expanded! More Switch 1 remakes and remasters are on the way!"

(someone asks a question)

"What's that you said? Switch 2? IDK lol. Thanks for attending the presentation today" leaves podium

Oh I completely missed this;

Im listening to old Nate’s podcast episodes in anticipation. I need the new one already lol
That‘s how Totk fans feel right now. We‘re waiting already 8 month! and no new game in sight. It‘s easy to trust the process as a F-Zero fan (as they got 99 recently), but I don‘t know if we Zelda fans will ever leave that contentless desert./s

if by june theres no mention of Switch sucessor, we should accept that Switch sucessor will launch in 2025, Nintendo dont seen concerned on having a new console right now, they will squeeze every possible drop of Nintendo Switch, before thinking of a sucessor launching this year or severals years later

If they're not concerned about Switch 1 sales numbers falling hard, as well as shareholders getting anxious, maybe they should.

I don't think more remasters & remakes will help prop up the Switch 1 sales numbers enough.

Apart from DS/3DS emulation, how will it actually work with games, it's not a handheld console, it's a portable PC
Like the dozens of other handheld PCs which came after the Steam Deck. But atleast it has a more complete featureset than the other ones 😉.

I wonder if Nate is more or less confident in any rumours about March. I'm kind of surprised we haven't had any dev kit/leak rumours recently aside from that bs GameShark rumour, funcles are either silent or unaware.

Switch sales for the remainder of its sales life will sell based on its existing library of games. At this point, even if Nintendo were to release a new 3D Mario on Switch, the game would sell amazingly well but the boost in hardware sales would be minimal. We have hit the point of market saturation and the decline year over year will be significant going forward. Nintendo will be hard pressed to sell more than 8 million Switch units for the upcoming fiscal year. For a console entering its eighth year on the market, that isn't bad, but it is a far cry from the 20+ million units sold per year for multiple years in a row. Its not just about investors complaining about the declining numbers, there is no reason to believe Nintendo's management would be complacent with this reduction is sales. At this point, its looking like Nintendo will have planned correctly, and will have the successor roll out on the exact year that hardware sales for Switch finally see a steep decline. Planning these things isn't an easy thing to do. Release the successor to soon and you cut the Switch's potential short, but if Switch sales had fallen hard back in 2022 with no successor in sight, they would have been criticized for not being prepared. Time will tell, but this may be one of Nintendo's best managed hardware transitions in their history.
