shit with a name like that no wonder xenofans keep winning on here

I can see that. Regarding the combat: I'm basically fine with it because we've had 10 (not counting X) games with basically the same combat now, trying something new is fine and I trust Horii to not just make it generic action combat. He also said the command system will not disappear completely. I'm very optimistic when it comes to most of my favourite franchises lol They haven't done me wrong yet!

Since you've mentioned invisible walls, they actually wanted to make XI an open world game but changed that because it didn't fit with the narrative in their eyes. Since they want XII to be about choices I wonder if they don't mean dialogue options as much as the choice where to go and what exactly you see (in what order). III is honestly pretty modern open world-like in my opinion, especially for being a Famicom game.
you're dropping so many interesting tidbits. i should read more horii interviews lol.

i don't necessarily think it has to be fully open world, i'm of the mindset that open worldifying everything is not needed. it would just be nice if they made each contained environment just more free and organic. as a small example, there's the route right outside phnom nhon where there's a ruin in the middle of a pond and you literally cannot access it, it's just there as window dressing. would just be nice to be able to go inside of it, even if it doesn't serve a serious purpose.

not sure if i'm portraying what i mean exactly, but i'm also about to hop on a meeting so writing this as fast as i can hahaha

Nah I get you and agree. Don't need open world DQ really, I just think some aspects of that design philosophy could make its way into DQ in the future. Which would then lead to less invisible walls and stuff like that. More free is a good way to put it I think!

Also the stuff I'm saying is based on my memory from interviews I've read months or years ago so I hope I'm not accidentally lying to you lmaoo

Absolutely. There’s a lot of gems in that library that I want to see on Switch or its successor. I’m still waiting for Devil Survivor 2, Contact, and Chrono Trigger…
The industry should have seen that double screen gaming is the best... don't tell me using two screens would be more trouble than it's worth now I won't hear it!!!

OP wouldn't be able to see their own post if that was the case, ha.
you don’t have to see it if you wrote it

how do you think I survive the constant stream of shitpost blaring out of me at any given time?

So it seems I'm breaking the fog machine back out for this year's Christmas get-together for the first time in quite a few years. Hope it still works!

The internet was better back in the day when it stopped working as soon as someone in your house used the landline.

I heard the best Wrapped/Year In Review came out today

And in those times we only had one Paper Mario game so people couldn’t argue online about the series… Internet was really better back in the day

To be honest I remember Game Informer shitting all over TTYD so my assumption for years was that everyone thought it was just okay.

Imagine my surprise!

Hi Fami General Thread! I'm not dead! Real life has been throttling me for the last 3 weeks. Thank you for the great ST @MissingNo. and to @Derachi for last month.

I've totally missed you all and hope everyone is doing alright this time of year!

Also just to make sure I'm properly caught up on "the news" because it certainly feels like we've entered an alternate reality in the last two weeks:
  • Sega announced a revival of a bunch of old IPs
  • S-E announced a new Mana game (!)
  • People got pissed about the TGAs finally dropping the facade
  • We got 1080 and a few other niceties shadowdropped the NSO drop
  • Still no word on Side Order
  • Some people are upset about TotK for some reason?
  • Doom hit 30 years old (and we got a new episode), some other games also had some anniversaries
  • Kawazu's still Kawazu-ing it up at Square-Enix
Do I have that all right? Did I miss anything?

EDIT: Questions!

1) What is your favourite hot beverage?

Definitely tea. We have Harney & Sons located about 20 minutes from my hometown, and while I wasn't aware of them growing up... I absolutely love their Paris and Boston blends which are basically fruity earl greys and absolutely lovely.

2) What is your favourite cosy video game?

Not so much any specific game per se but I'm totally cosy with nearly any SNES/PS1 era Square RPG, any Mario platformer, or Maxis Sim game (Spore counts too I'd say). There's a lot of nostalgia wrapped up in these but I think they nail pretty much everything from the gameplay to the art direction to the music and are just all around good times.

Ok going back and playing PS1 era games with a “better than what I had at the time” sound system is a trip. Everything sounds so clean and clear and sorta makes everything feel new again.

dual screen patriots are in control soon the single screen deep state will be made accountable for its sins

You can actually make a kind of tea using fermented tea leaves, coffee grounds and cocoa nibs... Some tea recipes even outright call for espresso and cocoa powder. It's wonderful how diverse these fermented and roasted, dried fresh or toasted plant infusions can be!
