Are we ever going to get Zero Mission on NSO? I’m trying to trust the process
I am sure eventually, but they are going to spend a good few years doling out N64/GB/GBA games to maximize subscription engagement. Will definitely replay it when it comes out after going through it on Wii U earlier this year.

Does anyone know what Mercury Steam are working on next? There was a rumor awhile back that they have another 2d Metroid game in the works, just wondering if maybe it's another remake.

We know they're working with 505 Games on a dark fantasy game codenamed Project Iron

IIRC Mercury Steam has two teams though (they put out both Samus Returns and Spacelords in September 2017, so they'd kind of have to), and the second team is rumored to be working on a 2D Metroid game for 2025, though the rumor didn't specify if it was a new game or a remake

Thanks for that.
It's funny in watching the Castlevainia Retrospective, Mercury Steam's ambitions were to be the next Naughty Dog.
Considering what they did with Castlevania Lord's of Shadow, I'm curious to see what they could do with Metroid in a similar style game...

I heard in a news video that it seems that Metroid Prime 2 will ultimately have the same graphics as Metroid Prime Remastered. Does anyone know the source of this new rumor?

Not sure it's a new rumour, there's been word that 2&3 would be outsourced using MPR as a baseline since pretty much the same time as the "they'll just be basic ports" rumour started circulating. I know what I want to believe xD

Just snagged this, cost $26 including shipping but realistically I don't think I'll see it cheaper than this for a long time, if ever

I've made multiple attempts to play Prime and never finished it, so this time uh, hopefully I do lol

So with the new year, I’m starting my Metroid marathon between different gaming sessions with Metroid prime. Then there’s samus returns on the 3ds. I’ll wait to play the og when zero mission hits on NSO eventually

I finally played Super Metroid with the Redux mod. What a great QoL hack! Slightly reworked physics, new controls, reworked map, and minor QoL changes inspired by the GBA games really make the original game shine.

If you going to play it, I suggest these settings:
  • Auto-Run: OFF, from the difficulty settings. Sadly, the game wasn't balanced around auto-running.
  • Optional patch: Vanilla Beam Cooldowns.ips. This only affects the very beginning of the game; without it, it feels like Contra.
  • Optional patch: Classic Booster.ips. I encountered one very minor bug, which I believe was due to the faster activation of the Shinespark.

I’ve been playing Super vanilla in the NSO app and feeling pretty good because I’m getting the Mach ball and spore spawn tricks down. Sloooooowwwwly getting my time to drop but on this last playthrough I chopped 20 minutes off of the previous one.

Oh, good, I'm glad they added a fix for the beam thing, though it still shouldn't be the default. It breaks Ceres Ridley and Torizo, so it was the biggest issue I had with Redux.

Redux is so good I consider it the definitive version of the game (and I'm not someone who usually cares for these hacks that make a bunch of random little changes), and I'm glad they're still working on it even though it's annoying to figure out what exactly was changed and when without any sort of proper changelog. Apparently they updated it again in October, maybe that's when they added the beam cooldowns patch, hell if I know.

What did it break, exactly? I only noticed that it made the early part of the game easier before you get the Charger Beam.

Auto-Run + new Booster allows you to get the Power Bomb before the Grapple Beam, and trapped me here.

I meant break in the balancing sense. Both fights are designed around you having a certain rate of fire, so the fast autofire trivializes them. Beating Ceres Ridley is supposed to be this hidden challenge. In this video you can see they collide with Ridley at the beginning of the fight and successfully dodge all of three attacks, but still get him to drop the capsule before reaching low health because they're just doing that much damage.

Also, you normally get the Power Bomb before the Grapple Beam? You'd have to wall jump to get the Wave Beam early in order to get the Grapple Beam first.

Whoa, what? You can beat Ceres Ridley?
Sort of. Normally, the fight ends when you take enough damage for your low health sound to activate, but if you damage Ridley enough, he'll momentarily drop the Metroid capsule before catching it and flying off like normal. It's just a little thing you can do, sort of like saving the animals.

I’m getting the urge to play Dread’s Dread mode. I’ve beaten Dread seven times, but Dread mode scares me.

See if you can beat each boss in the boss run without getting hit (not all in one go, just to figure out if you can). I couldn't beat Escue with no damage so I never attempted Dread mode .

i thought the strat for Escue was to charge a shinespark before you even entered the boss room

That does take off a good chunk of health but even then it's a slippery bastard
Escue is a shit-spackled muppet fart. What I've found works best for getting through the fight without taking damage: when it gears up to start launching its barrage of shit spackles at you (the most annoying attack to dodge), stay in the bottom left or right corner of the room briefly, so that they'll initially track towards the lower half of the screen. After that, it's just a matter of jumping and dashing over the rest of the spackles. I'll try to remember to post a clip later. The fight is definitely pissing shitfire though, and gave me more trouble than Raven Beak, back when I played through Dread Mode.

You mostly just need to make sure not to get caught mid-air when it starts up its projectile attack, and you'll be able to dodge it pretty consistently.

Well shinespark me sideways and call me Old Bird, guess I have to play Dread Mode
