Hell of a conclusion to a juggernaut of a game. Floored by the Sound Test addition.

Super excited to see what’s next for the series.
 
Well, there it is. The final set of courses being added to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Today I learned that Rosalina's Ice World has a bunch of fans. I am not one of them, haha. It always felt like they had a kinda generic ice course that they made "Rosalina themed" by putting the Comet Observatory in the background. Even the name is kinda generic, like..."Ice World"? Sure, I guess? I don't think there's anything wrong with the track design or anything. This will likely go down like Music Park/Melody Motorway - a MK7 track that most folks love but something about their theme or presentation drags it way down for me. Here's hoping for Wario's Shipyard as a retro track in the next game.

Beyond that, which in all honesty is a nitpick, this is a solid set of tracks to end on in terms of range of themes and course layouts, even if most of it was long expected at this point. Really looking forward to hearing the full soundtracks, especially with the new sound test coming to the game! Though I hope this doesn't prevent a soundtrack re-release with all the new jams. I also love seeing some Mii racing suits from Tour being preserved, there's a bunch of cute ones.

End of an era, huh? Nearly 10 years of Mario Kart 8. Kinda gonna miss it when it's all said and done. It was easily my favorite in the series, even on Wii U with its nonexistent battle mode. The Booster Course Pass breathed new life into a game I loved and I'm glad I got to share that with everyone here.

Crazy to think it’s been nearly a decade of Mario Kart 8. This game, along side Super Mario 3D World, was one of the games I bought my Wii U for in early 2014. A few days before I bought my own, I had played Mario Kart 8 at my friends house when it came out. I hadn’t played a Mario Kart game since double dash ant that point, outside of a very small amount of Mario Kart Wii at my sisters, which i did not enjoy. I was floored by just how much fun it was, and shocked by graphics on display. By this point the ps4 and xbox one had been out for a few months, and it impressed me more than anything on those platforms, save for Ryse: Son of Rome and Killzone: Shadowfall. Just goes to show the power of great art direction and smartly working around platform limitations. Anyway, that day at my buddy’s, we must have gone through every track together in one sitting. When I bought my own Wii U later that week, I literally spent the entire first day playing mostly that game with a dash of 3D World and the Wind Waker HD thrown in, as I had purchased the Wind Waker HD special edition console.

I’m a sucker for anything Galaxy so the observatory and domes over a beautiful icy space background is instant seratonin for me, simple as that
 
Lot of talk about MK8 being 10 years old next year. Just imagine if for 2024 they announce Mario Kart 10 .... th anniversary edition of MK8.

Run from it, dread it, we will never actually escape Mario Kart 8.

I THINK Wii Rainbow Road is back to being three full laps.

Interestingly enough SNES Bowser Castle may not have anti-gravity and the straightaway with trick ramps.

So they did combine character icons after all, but they did it to the Inklings and Villagers and actually moved around the other icons in the last row too, including the Mii icon! Nice, won’t complain about that! Also we have all the Donkey Kong series characters (minus DK himself) in the guest character row, so that’s neat.

Also awesome to see more Mii Racings Suits added!! Of course I’ve still gotta stick with my Sonic outfit, lol.
 
Ahhh what a fun surprise for this random Wednesday! After semi-expecting this last Thursday and semi-expecting it for tomorrow, to get it today was a shock!

So happy with the final 8 tracks! Wii Rainbow Road, finally a Bowser's Castle, DK Mountain, PPC, Daisy Circuit, and the biggest shock of all: Rosalina's Ice World!? I originally thought this was the most likely track for the "Mystery Slot" but after DC's reveal in September I thought things were totally settled. I wonder if Piranha Plant Pipeline has been completely cut, or if there are more surprises for us down the road...

Also, this wave looks absolutely STUNNING. BC3, Rainbow Road, PPC, Daisy Circuit, and RIW look like some of the best courses yet visually.

Would have preferred kart parts or battle courses over Mii suits and the jukebox thing, but ah well. Still super excited.

YES! This was my only concern with DK Mountain. Now fingers crossed that Rainbow Road is 3 laps, and this wave will be perfect!
 
Why are people concerned Wii Rainbow Road won't be 3 laps? It's pretty average sized. Did they make it enormous in Tour or something?
 
No chance Wii Rainbow Road is any less than three laps IMO. None of the tracks in the base game are below three laps/sections and Tour only has two sections because it's a mobile game. We have nothing to worry about.

Tour shorten it to "two" laps (in reality it's just one lap but split into two sections ala Mount Wario) likely due to score balance reason.

With that said I don't think they will change the standard lap count for 8DX.
 
It's been a minute, but I don't remember Rainbow Road Wii being that long. Would they really shorten it like they did to RR 64?

but instead they decide to mix up a row with guests and dlc.

this css is beyond messed up.

yeah, its pretty clear they purposely excluded fan favourites.

mk10 will probably have 48 or 32 tracks at launch before the dlc and updates come so it makes sense to save some form each game as well as fan favourites for it.

What do you all think the 6 remaining Mii costumes from Tour will be? I'm assuming we won't get the Koopalings (too many to add) and Waluigi/Goomba (they would've added amiibo support like daisy).

I'm hoping we get at least the Blooper, King Boo, Moo Moo and King Bob-omb suits, I also kinda hope we get the gold mii suit maybe as a completion bonus for 3 staring all the DLC cups. I'm honestly just really pumped we are getting more Mii suits in general, gonna be using ? Block one for sure.

I’m thinking they’ll keep it limited to characters/course themes that appear in MK8D, so my guess is:

-Dry Bones
-Moo Moo
-Monty Mole
-Wiggler
-King Boo
-Blooper
 
In terms of routing for the Tour tracks, Madrid looks to be about as easy as it gets. Madrid 1, Madrid 2R, and Madrid 3 are all present, and there isn't any funky business needed to get them to work. Pretty clear cut.

Rome is interesting though, mostly due to 0:08 in the track video. Racers are shifting out of the end of Rome 1, into the opening part of Rome 2, and the continuing through the roundabout (which was otherwise unused) into Rome R2. Very odd. I'm guessing it's gonna be Rome 1 -> quick loop back into the end of Rome 1 into the back half of Rome 2R -> Rome 3, but we don't know enough about how Rome 2 is used to know for sure. All that we can definitively pinpoint is that Rome 1 and Rome 3 are both there.

I'm so so so so SO happy for Rosalina's Ice World you can't even IMAGINE how HAPPY I AM 😭😭😭.
Last August I jokingly said that no matter what merits Mario Kart 8 DX has, it would never have Rosalina's Ice World and ooooh boy I was SO wrong.

gosh Pauline in that bike suit is ready to serve.

Even without the Amiibo support, I'm gonna say Goomba will be one of them. Just feels too Iconic to leave out.

Love Rosalina, the track is just boring. It's the most "just kinda there" track from 7, and it cut out the Tour Track I wanted to see the most. Maybe half pipes will make it more fun cause it's like laughably obvious that it was supposed to have them originally but they weren't in 7 at all.
