My prediction for switch 2 games

Mario : New 3d Mario Launching on Switch 2 Fall 2024 and we will see the teaser at the start of year maybe at the switch 2 reveal

Zelda Oracle Remakes in 2025 and then we will see a tease of the next 3d zelda 2025 or 20206 with a 2027 Release. it will be a more darker realistic style like the wii u 2011 tech demo

Metroid: Prime 4 reveal at the game awards Launching Summer 2024 for switch 1 and then fall 2024 for switch 2. Prime 2/3 hd shadowdrop at the start of 2024, In 2025 we will get Metroid 6 by mercury steam

Smash Bros: we will get a smash bros tease for a reeboot of the game at the start of 2025 and a release holiday 2025

F zero and starfox will get new releases for switch 2 in 2025/2026

Only Eurogamer said that, & their specific wording was earlier than late 2024.

A recent report pinned Switch 2's arrival for the latter part of next year, with development kits now in the hands of some key partners. This chimed with what Eurogamer had also previously heard, though on timing I understand Nintendo is keen to launch the system sooner if possible.

That's the OG quote, latter part of next year doesn't sound anything late 2024, the wording could imply anything past H1.

And being "keen to" implies that they're really doing what's possible to launch earlier than H2 2024.

As time goes on, I’m getting more and more comfortable with my prediction of a September launch date alongside either Mario or Metroid Prime, with the other in the following month and something Pokemon related in November. Great lineup to kick a new console off.

2025 is the more interesting year to talk about. New console basically resets the entire speculation field, which is a ton of fun. All the one-and-done franchises are back on the table.

On another note, I think we’re gonna see an inverse Mario/Zelda split this time around. Two 3D Mario’s, one 3D Zelda.

Love when I get that icon and meme synergy
Clemontic Gear, ON!

My prediction

Realistic:
Spring Reveal: March or April reveal trailer.
Summer demos: E3 type presentation in June detailing the hardware and new games on the hardware. Hands on events, etc in July.
End of summer/fall release date: August - September.

Optimistic/reaching:
October/ November reveal
January presentation and demos
March release
Basically identical to Switch 1.

Only about software, hardware rumors probably go in the hardware thread

To be honest, i don't think there will be a lot of new hardware rumors. Maybe about the new gimmick, if there is one noteworthy to be mentioned.

Due to the nVidia leak, the hardware is actually pretty much known at this point, save for really specific stuff that wouldn't be a thing Nate or other outlets would be talking about. It's more something that Eurogamer / DF would do a tech breakdown for.

Most rumors/leaks from now on would be about launch, announcement, launch games, games in dev for and so on.

Nintendo hasn’t fucked with Geoff in any meaningful capacity in years, I don’t think they’ll start now.

But here’s the problem, Nintendo already confirmed that the rest of this fiscal year will be primarily focused on the current Switch. You could maybe argue April through June off of that, but that likely also extends to the announcement that may take attention away from the Switch 1.

The fiscal year ending in March, if they release a console in March or April, it wouldn't take away that 90% of the fiscal year focus was on the Switch

March is still this current fiscal year. And there’s still the concern of ruining holiday sales to consider.

Just because Furukawa said they plan to support Switch at least until end of FY 25 doesn't mean it has to be the focus for the FY starting April 2024.

I'd argue that the main focus for most of Nintendo is ReDraketed already at this point, ironically.

Also, semantics are never a good argument, because if we see it dry, they could launch ReDraketed in the last week of March 2024 and Switch would still have been the prime focus for the rest of this fiscal year.

Announcement shouldn't matter much for the current customers buying a Switch, even moreso if ReDraketed comes with a nice price increase compared to the current offerings.
On top of the fact that basically starting with the second half of January, market is out of after holiday sales period and runs into a slump like usual.

When they talk about the fiscal year they mention the full year,

There is a huge difference between saying: "We will be focus mainly on Switch this FY" "We will exclusively release games and hardware only for the current Switch this FY" they haven't said the latter.

There is no concern, they revealed Switch in October 2016 and the 3DS did just fine. Holiday sales started early already

A lot of companies are starting holiday sales early, not just Nintendo. Best Buy is already doing Black Friday deals on their TVs, while GameStop is doing a major sale on new games.

The support only extends to the upcoming fiscal year, the current one is still focused on the Switch 1. If anything, then only saying supporting for the next fiscal year more heavily implies that the successor will release within that timeframe.

Exactly this

I'd be amazed and shocked at a reveal in 2023. I think the smart money is on early-ish 2024 to be honest.

Like I've said previously, the people who think it will be revealed this year are mostly the people who thought it would be revealed 3 months ago, then 3 months before that etc.

Off topic, why comparing manufacturer to distributors, doesn't make sense.

Focused doesn't mean exclusively dedicated, that's what you need to understand. If they have to release early next FY they will have to announce during this FY, that wouldn't change the fact that the focus this whole FY was the Switch 1 even with an NG reveal or a very last end of FY release.

That's deceiving customers that just bought a Switch in the holidays season.

You may think Nintendo don't care, but it's their brand image at the end of the day

Even though they maybe weren't planning to buy the NG at launch, if you buy a Switch for you kid this christmas and in January they announce the next one, they will feel stupid, they have to announce before the hard holiday season if it's indeed releasing early next year.

If they release in Summer or Fall 2024, then yeah they can announce next year.

I think announcing Switch 2 as early as 25th January makes sense. 1 month after Christmas. Christmas sales won't get affected as well as avoiding 30 day return period. The major game coming out is Mario Wonder and that's out soon. All the Q1 games are so minor that an accouncement won't take away from those games. Similar to how 3DS continued to get low key games and ports later in its life while Switch was announced or released.

In terms of release I think May would be a good time to release with Mario Kart and Metroid Prime 4 and 3rd party ports like Street Fighter 6 and Diablo 4. Followed by COD and FIFA multiplatform releases in September. Then for November they can release the 3D Mario successor.

Good call to separate these discussions from the tech discussion. Looking forward to following both in the upcoming months.

Well, when are you expecting this reveal? I'm thinking of March - not January.

Also, if it's later than October this year and an announcement is in November, are people who already bought their Switches for this Christmas not being deceived also?

Previously you've said this won't be an issue since you believe the audiences are different but now you're using it as a card to defend your position.

People are not buying Christmas gifts in October.

The audiences are different for sure, but it's the principle, and that's not true I've always said that deceiving customers for Christmas was a bad idea, yes you would get sales but you would be doing a shady move for that.

Nintendo's best interest is to be transparent during the holiday season if they have a console releasing in the next 6 months.

So what are we expecting to be built into the new controllers?

I feel after the success of Ring Fit Adventure we're likely getting a sequel/successor on Switch 2, and if they knew this from the get go, they could have built hardware to properly support it into whatever new Joycons the console has.

Scroll.Wheel.Shoulder.Buttons!

They packaged two Advance War games into a $60 game. They can do the same for the Zelda Oracle games.

To be clear, I am not expecting these games next year or that soon. I still think that a new 2D Zelda will come sometime in the next two years. I just don't think it is fair to rule out Oracle remakes as never happening. Never is a long time.
They won't because they released those on NSO already. They don't release NSO games that are going to have a full brand new remake announced in the next 1-2 years at least (my own estimation).

Watching the January 2017 presentation again because of this thread lol made me realize something so cool about the Switch design and its synergy with the marketing. Something that all the other PC portables (as well as some of Nintendo previous consoles *cough the Wii U) completely missed and went over their heads.

The sound of the joy-cons snapping into the main system is kind of iconic. They nailed that. They used the sound heavily for marketing, such as the joy-cons moving in handheld form to dock mode with the grip. They made a logo and animation out of the clicking. What I really like is the fact that the hardware itself is as equally satisfying as the marketing suggests. The joy-cons snap feels, looks, and sounds so good. That is some crazy hardware design that targets most of your senses, so to speak. It sounds and feels satisfying. That design isn't necessary when you think about it, but it also kind of is. There's no real practical use case for it all. It's just there to provide an additional sensory experience of the hardware to the user. That's really cool. It's very arbitrary and abstract, like the concept of beauty in design. You don't realise how important it is until you see and experience it. That design kind of set the Switch a part from these other portables.

I'm thinking now about what the equivalent of this could be for the new Switch. There might not even be one. It’s going to be difficult to match this and create something as cool again… twice. The wonder and excitement that snapping brought. The playfulness of it all. That was the first time we'd seen anything like it. By now, it is commonplace. We’re used to it since it’s been such a long time. It’s what we know and expect from the Switch brand. Back then, it was like, woah.

I had forgotten that Nintendo themselves confirmed a March 2017 launch for the NX in April of 2016, 6 months before we officially saw the hardware and got the name. Heck looking at Sony even they were giving an on the record time table back in 2019 saying "not before April 2020". I can't imagine Nintendo is going to try and do a surprise "here is the hardware it's coming in 6 months" type announcement. If the hardware was planned to launch this fiscal year (or even the month afterward in April) they'd have confirmed that to investors in one of their last two financial calls. There would be zero incentive for them to keep such a big deal a secret from the customer base Nintendo actually cares about, their shareholders.

Do people want the next 2D Zelda game to be remakes of the Oracle games? We just had Links Awakening.

I’m always confused at why people are not predicting a brand new 2D Zelda game. 2D Zelda isn’t dead. Zelda isn’t dead. It’s an ongoing franchise and just had remakes. The next thing in line would be brand new games, but I see soooooooooooooo many predictions on another set of remakes.

- I think there was a patent for save data to travel between controllers at one point. I think that would be extremely cool. Imagine the next smash/mario kart had a customisation element where you can just drop your entire setup over just by connecting your joycon, controls and all.

- Streetpass functionality in the joycon would be cool too maybe idk. Just take a controller with you on a walk or something, have it pick up on other users then connect to the internet when you get home to see what you've found, idk how technically complex that would be though.

- Hall effect sticks are a must. I've gone through so many joycon shit isn't funny. Like at all.

Whatever the case I just hope it's a little more ergonomic without sacrificing the sleek form factor. I don't need steam deck but I do want more of a balance.

I expect Nintendo to pull out an insane bag of tricks with whatever they make so this was a really hard question lol. Super excited for gimmicks, software quirks etc. since there's no way they can keep it the exact same without spicing it up a little bit.

The point is they’re not all predictions. It seems like a thing people actually want. Why would more remakes for 2D Zelda be predicted? Nobody keeps “predicting” remakes for other high profile series. What are they basing their predictions off of? It’s been a decade since a new 2D Zelda. We got Triforce Heroes and Links Awakening to fill the gap.

This is probably because that clown Markomaro put it out on Twitter YEARS ago that the Oracle games were being remade now that I think about it more. It seemed to grow from there with people constantly, year after year, predicting Oracle remakes were coming.

About 2D Zelda remakes, i just think they invested too much work into this "toy" look of Link's Awakening for it to be a one time only thing.

I would actually bet (no money or profile pic!) that OoA and OoS will see remakes within the next 3 years using the same artstyle.

Recently you were saying October. It just changes as time passes.

When we're in November you'll change it to December/January.

I don't have much to contribute to the discussion because I don't know much about the current speculation around Switch 2, but I've been eagerly anticipating the next Animal Crossing game to drop in 2025, and I think that'll be one of the first few big exclusive tentpole releases for the next console if it launches 2024.

I think Animal Crossing could also slip to 2026, but I don't think Nintendo will want to have a repeat of anything close to the seven year wait for New Horizons, given the newfound otherworldly popularity of the series, and how desperate people still are for content updates for that game. Think the Lego series launching next year will serve to tide people over until a potential announcement or release in 2025.

I understand there isn't much overlap between the developers, but EPD5 have been on a consistent schedule of alternating between Splatoon and Animal Crossing releases every few years, since 2013. Aya Kyogoku's last game was the Happy Home Paradise so a 4-5 year development cycle for the next game tracks. Full development of New Horizons was likely only four years

Personally my issue with predicting the next 2D Zelda has less to do with me thinking 2D Zelda is dead and more that I think there's too many possibilities for what they can do. Now yes, obviously there's a lot of potential for any unannounced hypothetical game, however I basically think any of the following is on the table.

A new 2D Zelda
A remake of the Oracle games
A 4 sword style Zelda

And I could see all of these being Switch 1 title to give the software another crowd pleasing game, a Switch 2 launch year exclusive to help move hardware, and in the case of the 4 Sword game, I could see it being a free with NSO type title that could be cross gen (on the off chance switch 2 isn't BC).

I don't think it's true that many people actually want Oracles remakes over a new 2D Zelda. A completely new entry is commonly one of the most requested games on here and in other Nintendo communities. People predicting more remakes (including myself) are mostly basing it on the following:
  • EPD3 is mostly focused on 3D Zelda which is where the bulk of the internal EPD staff lands
  • They haven't given an external studio the reins on a new original Zelda since Minish Cap
  • The three directors on ALBW have been working on other things:
    • Hiromasa Shikata has only been credited in 1-2-Switch and its sequel
    • Shiro Mouri is on 2D Mario these days and the director of Wonder
    • Kentaro Tominaga left Nintendo altogether
Admittedly, this is a rather pessimistic outlook but I personally don't think they will let Grezzo head development on an original 2D Zelda yet. Their work on Link's Awakening was mostly well-received so I could see Nintendo have them work on another remake instead. Maybe after the failure of Everybody's 1-2-Switch Shikata can return to 2D Zelda.

No he's pretty consistently been saying Oct/Nov for awhile now.
To be fair, this is after he spent the summer declaring it was imminent, so it's understandable that someone would balk at P4blo's predictions.

That said, I'm fully prepared to eat crow if they are right and I'm wrong (as usual).

No he's pretty consistently been saying Oct/Nov for awhile now.

3 months ago he said it was 100% being revealed in July.

We should have a prediction eliminator thread. You declare your month or quarter and when it passes without a reveal then you're gone. Last user left wins a bag of cookies featuring Nintendo designs.
