StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (New Staff Post, Please read)

Hot take for a launch game: Pilotwings, but as close as possible in visuals to MS Flight Simulator.
Lemme twist your idea. Sequel to the 3DS Pilotwings and Wii Sports Resort. Takes place on Wuhu Island, it has sports mini games and all the flying. I'm up for name ideas - Nintendo Switch 2 Resort is a terrible name. Make it a really nice looking game but not hyper realistic. Make it the Switch 2's Wii Sports.

I just want Wuhu Island back in any form.

I'm out here playing GO Vacation just to fill the void

GO VACATION WILL NEVER FILL THE WUHU ISLAND SHAPED HOLE IN MY HEART. NINTENDO PLEASE LET US GO BACK

Though ngl, Go Vacation kinda slaps.

Nintendo better let me free roam Wuhu Island and bring in like 50 minigames when it comes back, or we might be getting the upset of the century

it's about DLSS, not chat gpt shit
No we don't need nintendo's next console to lean in on a glorified search engine aggregate.
Apple has a whole section of ML on their chip. You think it’s just “glorified search”? Anyway, they used it for photography and on device A.I computing (instead of cloud) as well as search.

My point being just because it said “ML” doesn’t mean DLSS. It could be a number of things. Doctre81 has a big tendency of jumping into conclusions. I’ve not seen correction videos after the wrong assumptions. If you have, feel free to post it. Not all his “LinkedIn” videos were right.

because an iphone is a computer.

the switch 2 is a game console. it has no need for machine learning stuff outside of dlss

So, what is it then? Simplest most obvious answer is DLSS. We know the system is using DLSS from the Nvidia leaks and from Gamescom. All you've done is said it's some nebulous other thing but your examples don't exactly fit this system. Why would it need AI photo tools or AI search tools? I guess the eShop could use that but that would be server-side stuff, none of the algorithms for popular/relevant games on the eShop would be computed on the Switch itself. I don't know why you keep denying that it's DLSS when it's staring you right in the face.

You don’t know what Nintendo is doing. DLSS itself wasn’t even in conversation in 2018. People thought it was unlikely they’ll use such technology. Now it’s a given.

Well for one, Nintendo internal studios have been using all kinds of upscalers, even custom ones like Monolith Soft. Not everything is related to DLSS. And this is just graphics related. They could be using ML for any kinds of things.

Machine Learning =/= DLSS. That’s all.

the big three all launching consoles next year, wonder how their launches will land. Oct. for Xbox, Oct/Nov. for Sony, ??? for Nintendo

edit - jk, didn’t realize the new Xbox wasn’t a Pro. Just a hardware refresh. Still, the original point still stands a little bit

H2 is going to be pretty crowded in traffic for hardware.

i wonder if this is what Nintendo wanted to launch ahead of.

When the switch launched it was pretty isolated. Regardless of the timing of the switch next, if H2, it’ll be within the XBox refresh and the PS5 Pro range.

Transportation will be a bit harder to get worldwide. Notice that I’m focusing on the transportation of the device or retail.

I’d think XBox would want to get to 6nm product out as soon as possible due to it being easier to manufacture, and PS5 Pro will want to make a splash with its [REDACTED] level of performance or it’ll be a dud, and they do not want to waste that R&D.

No matter how you look at it, it’ll be busy. “Oh but they have IPs!” And stores have shelf space. You work with what you got!

I didn't say that ML is a glorified search engine aggregate, just ChatGPT, because it is.

I assumed the attachments were redacted when I started posting about them. Not sure how this would have gone if I'd realized first they were meant to be sealed and even contained things like hardware leaks. Oh well!

Unfortunately, there's basically zero relevant information about Nintendo in any of them. Spencer and Kotick referenced new Nintendo hardware in some capacity in some other testimony, but the Spencer testimony that leaked is from a different deposition, and the rest of it is basically all internal Microsoft e-mails and presentation slides.

Can there be FTC leaks from Nintendo?
There could be. Nintendo did have to submit some documents and I think someone from Nintendo even testified? However I'm not so sure they would've had to hand over Switch 2 dev docs or anything.

Hey Microsoft, please leak the specs for Switch 2!
It might have almost been the case, but not from Microsoft. Activision had to hand over a (heavily redacted) presentation made by one of their managers about the next Switch. The specs could have possibly been in there.

Did they actually know the specs or is it just like with the CEO where they assumed it would be the same as a base PS4.

Xbox leaks making the Nintendo's next system life a lot easier than I've been expecting with Series S midgen
Thanks Microsoft
What surprised me about the mid-gen X-Box Series X leak is that a 6nm node is being used. I would have thought they'd go to 5 or 4nm. But this is shocking to me. 6nm is a minor update from 7nm, and I know 7nm is on its way out and 6nm is/has been replacing it I guess 6nm is here to stay.

This kind of makes me think... While it has no relation to Nintendo, I don't think we can say 6nm TSMC off the table entirely for Switch 2. Dakhil said that 6nm is a good candidate for Switch 2, months before. We've been so focused on 4nm TSMC, but who knows... I'm sure it will fit in the power profile, and perhaps the die size? Obviously, whatever the node is, it's already most likely been chosen anyway.

Gonna be honest, assuming 60fps, switch 2 just has to look as good as the steam deck footage here and I’ll be happy. Added bonus if it has the clarity of the Series S via DLSS in docked mode.

If we're all in favor of looping to another topic, how about launch games, again?

I've said this before, but I think Nintendogs could be an interesting launch (or launch window) title. I could see the dogs (and possibly other animals) look very realistic and the game could be a great showcase for improved Joy-Con controls.
They should really do an Ice Climber reboot with ray-traced reflections. I feel like that's the type of game they can utilize Switch features we've become accustomed to (like using two Joy-Cons for local multiplayer), while still implementing what people can expect visually speaking from a more modern system.

I mean we haven't really had an Ice Climber game since the arcade original (which was then ported to NES/Famicom and stayed with us through NES back-compat), yet Popo and Nana appear in Super Smash Bros. to this day. It's finally time for the return of the Ice Climbers.

This comparison was already discussed in the MK thread, the Switch version is show without the day 1 patch, and the Steamdeck version is low and at 40fps when it runs much better in the reality. I wouldn't pay much attention to the bit analyst.

Turns out there's plenty of info buried in the attachments of that PDF, including hardware info -- for Microsoft/Xbox. I do not care about those, so I won't be passing it along. But if anyone's interested, download PX7011 and look at the attachments (which are mostly more PDFs).

Looks like this was not intented. (If Tom is talking about that pdf)

How easy would it be to move from SEC 8nm to another SEC node? I was a bit surprised by that (xbox at 6nm for oct 2024), and I'm already moving my mind back to SEC 8nm as the worst case scenario (I think I became too confident in the tsmc 4N)
