PlayStation Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (remake Part 2) launching Febuary 29th 2024, is the first PS5 game to use 2 disks.

Does anyone else think the 3 month exclusivity is strange? I feel like it might point towards the Switch 2.
3 months?!

Sonys partnership with Square Enix "has never been stronger, " Jim Ryan says.

Or Xbox most likely. SE just started getting more involved with them.
Except XBox is a complete non-starter in Japan. If they're looking to do more in-house development they need to attract local talent and Switch 2 is going to be the best recruiting tool they can get right now unless their CEO wants to start berating students like that CyberConnect2 guy šŸ˜‚

Having a planned trilogy from the start is gonna be a godsend for this series.

Iā€™m not talking about story (not even gonna try and predict that), but about how they can take what they did and just keep adding and adding. Keep the stuff they did with remake but more party members, bigger movesets, more summons, bigger world. Expanding scope.

It feels like this could be the first FF game in a while to sell the scale and variety that the old games did.

I don't want to be a downer or sound conspiratorial but that release date looks to me like:
1. They are trying to puff up their financials for the fiscal year (ends March 31st) as the majority of sales will probably happen within that 1 month post-launch period as is standard for JRPGs
2. If this has the standard 6 month exclusivity window, they'll be able to announce the PC port around TGS 2024 which allows them to keep talking about the game later in the year.
2a. Bonus points if this positions them to have ports of the two FF7R installments ready to roll in the Switch launch period sometime in 2024
I mean... I don't get it?
1. They're launching every game when it makes sense strategically, aren't they? Current financials or not. Usually rushed releases come out at the end of March, not of February.
2. Yeah but they talked about 16's PC ver. before any exclusivity was up. It sure doesn't feel like they aren't allowed to do the same for 7.
2a. If Switch 2 is there and SE is porting the game than it will happen...

This is some tea leaves reading shoptroll ;P

The release date in February and a double pack, assuming the standard 6 months exclusivity, would possibly line up neatly with Switch 2 later that year.

I'm thinking PC, they'll probably announce it and shadow drop it during SGF/E3 just like they did with FF7RI on Steam.

Personally I don't expect these to reach Nintendo/Xbox until all 3 games are out and they can sell a massive triple pack.

Cait Sith's triangle move is called Kitty Wallop and I love it.

Looks like you call in the moogle with an action called Let's Ride that costs 1ATB. A little moogle coin icon appears next to his health while the moogle is out and it looks like it also changes his regular triangle move to dropkick.

I liked the dual tech with Aerith where she summons pink magic orbs and the moogle eats them to spit out a shin godzilla beam. A pink affinity symbol appears above their MP bars when those two do a duel tech.

System launch is kind of a big motivator and Nintendo may have been looking to make deals for their new system launch. Seems odd. 3 months seem very strange to me. Personally.

The legend himself!

Three month exclusive? I'll just wait for the Xbox version considering the whole Phil Spencer and SE CEO stage charade.

It's 2 UHD Blu-Ray discs.

It's not coming to Switch 2 ever.

Have they mentioned up to what point in the story this goes up to? and then there will be one more game right?
Nomura had this to say in the blogpost:
We have mentioned this a few times before, but the order in which you can explore the locations is not the same as the original Final Fantasy VII, and there are some shifts in the order. For example, Wutai, one of the major locations, is not part of the route in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and will be visited in the next one. Although there are some changes in the order of the locations, the locations depicted in this title extend up to ā€œThe Forgotten Capital,ā€ where the greatest fate of Final Fantasy VII awaits you.

Sounds like they intend to go up to Aerith's fate but a lot will be out of order

And yea, they've said before this is a trilogy so one more

omg it looks phenomenal šŸ˜

thereā€™s no way they go through with it, right? like absolutely no way. they better not. i donā€™t think iā€™ll be able to handle it.
Schroedinger's Nomura's Aerith šŸ‘€

Also, on the whole size/two discs thing: Reminder that Remake also came on two discs, of which only one was used for installation.

I mean even if that was happening, I would still just get the game on PC and play with my Switch Pro Controller.

Still though, that exclusivity lock is probably because PS5 is too much of a gamble for assured sales and SE needs to meet a bottom line that's more important than Sony's right now.

Vincet VA has to be Crispin Freeman. That is a Dead Ringer for Alucard in Hellsing Ultimate like that line is word for word almost the same delivery and sound.

I think structurally it makes more sense to go up to Cloud falling into the lifestream, with a "Empire Strikes Back" type of situation.
Next game starts with Tifa as the main player character while she looks for Cloud.

Sounds like Matt Mercer to me.
maybe but to me it sounds like a mix Between Crispins Alucard infleciton with some of the Deeper tone of Kaitos voice. Which makes sense considering its been 15-20 years since hellsing. Shame we likely wont know for sure for awhile.

I can't imagine this running on the Switch 2 with that file size unless the Switch 2's far more powerful than expected or it's some sort of cloud version lmao

Is this getting a PC release at launch? Or would the three month exclusivity window likely be for that version/a potential XBox port?

Call of Duty games could ship on 2 discs too, they just don't even bother with that because it's kind of dumb in this day and age and just make you download the rest. COD games will be on Switch 2, so will NBA 2K which have massive data sizes too.

Square-Enix is just being dumb thinking anyone is impressed by the whole multi-disc thing in today's day and age.

3 months is only on PS5. After that there seems it can go to anything (potentially). I imagine 3 months later PC is likely, but xbox who knows.

That's the coolest trailer I've seen in a long, long time. That music... Dang. Also, four years after Remake is a super respectable development pace nowadays :O .

Still knee-deep in Remake on PC (and going very slowly), and am loving it more than I expected. Some folks inside Square Enix still seem to get it!

I hope that's enough, FF7R was obviously mega expensive to make. With the amount of mindshare it has I expected a lot more. Let's hope the obviously upcoming (pls god) Switch 2 releases will allow it to do some Nintendo numbers.

It's right at the end of the official youtube upload.
Interesting! If I could play this on PC next year that'd be swell. If I could play it on Switch 2 next year... I'd ASPLODE.

It looks absolutely amazing. Once this trilogy of games is completed, people will probably look back on it as one of the best things that happened in video game history.

A reminder that 3 month exclusivity doesn't mean they will have a port ready to go the day three months is up, or guarantee that the game is coming to Xbox/Switch etc.../will probably come to Epic Game Store on PC first

No matter what they decide to do, weither changing the fate or going with it, the ending of Rebirth will be insane either way. Can't wait.

I'm team we will change fate. But on the other hand I can see them doing the whole "we can change our fate" at the end of the first one only for them to crush us with the fate being unchanged. Aaaaaah, this is going to be crazy.

I'm 100% sure they will

change the circumstances around Aerith death and make us believe she can be saved.

people are going to freak the fuck out.

Yeah,
I'm thinking something like have her being killed later, at the climax of the final game.

Sad it probably won't line up with the way they're doing the trilogy, but I've long had it pictured in my head that the most cinematically ideal way to close one of these games on an impactful cliffhanger would be to get all the way to the northern crater, then have the scene of Tifa waking up later and opening the window to reveal the big horrifying looming meteor hanging in the sky

I didnā€™t think there were any other FFVII/Remake fans on this board. So glad there are others who are just as hyped as I am!

That Q&A with the devs has me even more excited. Playable Sephiroth? More summons? More minigames? This is gonna be so freaking amazing.
