In my neck of the woods that means summer has been over for an entire month already.I'm also on Team Summer 2023 reveal!
Except in my neck of the woods that means we could be waiting till October
Glad to hear impressions are good but maaaannnnn I need one crumb more. I'll take the crustiest, most crushed, low-res image of it.
Computer enhance.
Switch 2 confirmed for being an actual vehicle on wheels. Not a leaker or insider by any means, but a client of mine was at Gamescom and from their recollection, there was not much foot traffic near Nintendo's box booth.

No doubt it would be a fairly short event taking place on a single morning or afternoon with just a very small number of invitation-only guests, aside from that one instance of use the booth would be little more than a decorationNot a leaker or insider by any means, but a client of mine was at Gamescom and from their recollection, there was not much foot traffic near Nintendo's box booth.

I've actually come around to it. Obv still hope we get a 1080p OLED at launch. But at least in this way the system for the next 7-8 years will have 1080p screen as it's base specs. They can easily (and probably will) add an OLED model in a few years. But I doubt they would ever bump the handheld resolutionI would honestly prefer a 720p OLED screen over a 1080p LCD one.
I dislike the gray uniformity and imperfect blacks more than lower resolution.
Heck, a 720p OLED screen would be less taxing for the system, increasing the battery life and frame rate. Just add VRR/120Hz and HDR to the current Switch OLED screen and that's it.
Separated directional buttons, this is all I could ever ask for.

That's actually a pretty good point. Haven't thought about it that way, but makes sense.I've actually come around to it. Obv still hope we get a 1080p OLED at launch. The buttons are backwards.Separated directional buttons, this is all I could ever ask for.
I decided not to notice the very major flaw that is the BAXY layout. The buttons are backwards.
The BAYX layout is not a flaw. It is intentionally meant to immitate the Super Nintendo’s face button layout.I decided not to notice the very major flaw that is the BAXY layout.
Don’t you mean Dash Rendar? We need Rogue One!
My wife: Hey, whatchu doin?
Me: Oh nothing just listening to the lark song.
My wife: Lark song…? We don’t have larks in our neighbourhood.
Me: It’s okay. I can hear them.
My wife: But there’s just silence, I can’t hea-
Me: NATE TOLD ME THAT SONG BIRDS ARE SINGING DELIGHTFULLY OKAY.
My wife: Nate?! Who’s Nate?

That much stock starts to take up a lot of space. as Nintendo would have to store 70-100 shipping containers per million units. While you're probably right (I agree), it's worth noting that the only reasoning given by VGC and others who expect an H2 2024 launch seems to be so that Nintendo has enough stock for launch and doesn't have crazy shortages.
So if they're doing a 9-10 month production run that would also fit with that idea, that they just want to have a ton of units at launch.
That being said I don't think there's really such a thing as "enough units at launch" so I do think that reasoning is a bit suspect.
I'm aware, I'm just poking a bit of fun at the Xbox layout used in that concept picture (I have no idea how anyone manages to use a switched A/B and X/Y)The BAYX layout is not a flaw. It is intentionally meant to immitate the Super Nintendo’s face button layout.

Me?! In this thread?!I think conclusions of an early 2024 launch are premature, even though I think it's the likely outcome myself. The information to make that conclusion is not there yet.
Good points.Stock is complicated. Nintendo can manufacture as many units as they want, but holding them well before launch will just result in pre-release black market sales. And while they can stock them up in giant warehouses near production facilities, their ability to supply units to stores is limited by shipping speed and capacity. So while an extended manufacturing period seems possible, 9 months seems a little wild.
The March launch of the Switch was useful for managing stock not because of the lead time, but because it let them manufacture counter cyclically - not competing with other products for holiday capacity - while also letting them meet Fan demand first, and then Holiday demand second. A big ramp up for a Holiday launch would still be throttled by massive demand on one side, and shipping limits on the other.
If Nintendo wants to fight scalpers with production, the key is to keep stock in stores. If scalpers buy an entire product launch, but then Nintendo just refills those stores with fresh stock, scalpers will be price competing with MSRP, which makes scalping unprofitable. So a combination of managing supply, demand, and shipping. The smartest move purely from a scalping perspective is to get away from a Holiday launch.
Which is not to say I think that's what Nintendo is planning. Scalping doesn't have to be Nintendo's #1 priority.
I want a poker game with Luigi as the dealer in the Mushroom Kingdom casino now, this uprez looks fantastic!

It is interesting to consider whether, even though the Switch's March launch was the result of a delay from a conventional holiday plan, Nintendo now considers it was advantageous in its own right and wants to follow it again. Until now, I've been pretty convinced they wouldn't, and that an early 2024 launch could only be the result of another similar delay from late 2023 (which, who knows, maybe it is), but I guess it's debatable. Being able to have BotW, MK8, Splatoon 2, and Odyssey all get their own big launches and all be lined up for the first holiday period was clearly a huge win. They can't really do something at that level again since the heavy hitters like Zelda, Splatoon, and Animal Crossing just recently had their installments released, but they might want to attempt to follow the pattern.Good points.
I would also add that, if they release around Spring, by Q4 they would already have multiple games out in different genres, maximizing mass market appeal.
Some western third-parties may have heard about Q4 because Nintendo may be keeping the launch period for itself and their close partners.

We?We have to give up on this one
By the way Nintendo just announced Nintendo Live in January 2024 in Tokyo, in the same venue as the 2017 Switch Presentation. If they actually reveal the next-gen this fall they could potentially also take advantage of the venue right before Nintendo Live for a NX2 Presentation don't you think ?
Short version: nothing.I'll do a favor to myself and to a lot of folks who can't keep with the fast pace of this thread lately and ask: can someone give me resume or some key points of what's been going on lately with switch 2 leaks?
I was thinking the same thing that the introduction of the switch to the public was around that period too in 2017.We have to give up on this one

HUH"Mario Red" Special Edition OLED model has been reliably leaked.
No.Do we have data on the hardware, possible games, release date, reveal?
Delightful birdsong. What has happened so that everything is advancing at the speed of light?
Not just impressive, delightful too.Short version: nothing.
Medium version:
Something Switch 2 was at Gamescom, but there is no reliable public info of what exactly. The details have been game-of-telephoned quite a bit, so a lot of the last dozen pages have been speculation and misinformation management.
A "Mario Red" Special Edition OLED model has been reliably leaked. When the Mario Wonder direct was announced, even a dummy like me could guess a special edition was coming with.
Lots of folks trying to guess rollout schedule from these two data points.
Some vague hints are being interpreted as saying that whatever was at Gamescom is impressive.
Rumours that dev kits or even final designs were shown and given to big devs during Gamescom.I see that many pages flew by. I've been reading but I can't guess what happened, is there new information? Precise things?

Early indications from the (alleged) Switch 2 showcase at Gamescom is that it's (allegedly) exceeding expectations, although insiders are waiting either to see who breaks the NDA first, or until more private presentation events happen and manufacturing starts, before spilling what they know - greatly dilutes the risk involved in publicising Nintendo's (alleged) private showcasesI see that many pages flew by.
