The thing about any system late in its life is that by then, the majority of the games people are looking forward to have already been released, the major series have already made their debut on the system, the amount of brand new stuff becomes depleted. On Switch, we've already seen 3D Mario, two 3D Zeldas, Animal Crossing, Smash Bros, 2 Splatoon games, 2 Xenoblade games. While Nintendo can and will reach into their bag for more games, many of the console defining games are out and while sequels are always nice, there's nothing quite like seeing your favorite franchise on a new system for the first time. The early years are fun because yes, you're anticipating yet another Smash Bros game, this is Smash Bros on Switch, not Smash Bros on Wii U or 3DS!

Same, lol. How they gonna give us that after Three Houses??

Edit: I'm really just referring to the characters and story. The gameplay was pretty fun, imo.
The fact they were made almost simultaneously with two separate teams is pretty telling. If only we could combine the story/characters of 3H with the gameplay of Engage.

Though I can't wait for if/when those Genealogy remake rumors are true and we get to see reactions to players having to drag their army across an entire massive map before actually entering combat

IMO both Three Houses and Engage are actually above the series average. I'd take both over something as milquetoast as Awakening or Shadow Dragon. I do prefer 3H to Engage though, even if Engage has better maps.

It will be interesting to see how Nintendo fills the schedule between now and late 2024.

Completely agreed, though I'm probably a little higher on Awakening. Not as good as Engage or Three Houses, but I'd pretty easily place it over a game like FE7.

my biggest takeaway from Three Houses is that I really hope if they do routes in another game they keep it to no more than two

I was so soured on that game by the time I stopped playing it between the map reusing and stuff I even initially liked like the unit raising stuff wearing thin and I didn't even play every route

I mean that comes with the territory of doing so many routes. I’m bummed they still don’t do unique faction units like we see with Fates to spice up enemy encounters but that would probably take too much time. Hilariously enough the only way to make a narrative like Three Houses with all the unique content & story elements you can is by turning FE into a live service game. But I know people aren’t keen on that & I’m still not sure if something like that would work overall.

I didn't play every route either. I don't think the game was designed to. I think it was just designed for you to play one or two routes and then to discuss the different experiences amongst other fans socially. Of course, few people did this because the nature of online fandoms lead people to want to experience as much as possible.

FE7 is still my favorite in the series, though I'll admit I'm biased since I was one of those people who got it near release in 2003 after loving Marth and Roy in Melee and had never played a game like it prior. It still has my favorite maps in the series outright, a story I like, the beautiful GBA sprite animation, and it's infinitely replayable for me in a way none of the others are. I know some don't like Lyn mode, but I'm still so glad it was 9 year old me's introduction to Fire Emblem, as it teaches the mechanics supremely well without dumbing down the experience itself imo.

Went to Comic-Con this weekend and bought a bunch of Nintendo games… honestly the idea of a Direct has become kind of scary because between these and TotK, I have so much to play at the moment.

I picked up:
Mario Party 4 (GCN)
Pikmin (GCN)
LoZ: Wind Waker (GCN)
Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time (DS)
Fire Emblem Awakening (3DS)
Fire Emblem Fates Conquest (3DS)

So yeah, I’m honestly a bit overwhelmed and haven’t touched any of them yet because I have no clue where to start. While I am totally on #TeamJune, even if there hypothetically was no Direct for a while, I’d be totally fine with what I just got… but with that said, I could never say no to a new Direct, lol. When the smoke starts rising, I’ll be right in this thread hyping with you all :D

Sorry I didn't expect FE7 to be your favorite now I feel bad lol. I just played it for the first time pretty late. I think it's actually the most recent game in the series I've played besides Engage. Just felt like I was using Hector and killing everything with 1 unit lol. I could definitely understand it being much more appreciated when played in the context of 2003.

I’m at the point at the end of the Switch’s life where, until the switch 2 is shown, every direct will be a make or break solely based on prime 4 to me.

It’s been a long and successful life for the system, and that promise from way back in the first year of the system’s life is the last thing I need fulfilled to cap of the Switch generation.

They could surprise me with a ton of awesome stuff I didn’t know I wanted in the next direct, but no matter what, the shadow of Prime 4 will always loom until it’s revealed from this point forward. It’s time imo
Big agree. There are many games I still want to see on Switch. New 2D Mario, new 3D Zelda, new any type of DK game... but we've been promised Prime 4 six years ago. We need to come full circle before we can move on.

I'd prefer it if they never did route splits again. Make everything linear from now on.

Tbf they can just mention Zelda and future hardware
Everyone knows that Zelda has numbers and all, but they need to mention something in the future, something that will also make them a good business and numbers. For hardware Furukawa will say '"We are in uncharted territory, we are always working on new hardware, nothing to announce at this time". That's all they will say.

does anyone remember what Nintendo said in 2016 during the lead up to Switch when were starved for games

So are we thinking that we will have a Pokemon Presents this week and a direct next one?
I don’t know why, but I feels like that’s the case

Truth is we don't know exactly what Nintendo's preferred week would be for a June Direct because the timing has traditionally been dictated by E3. Last year they also didn't need to do first party reveals, so I'm not sure that tells us very much, either.

Right now I'd say it's likely before the June 23rd investor meeting, which means this week or next. That also keeps it clear of (lol) Everybody 1-2 Switch, means Zelda has had a solid month to dominate the Switch news cycle, and means there'll be several more weeks for Pikmin 4's marketing to continue. It also leaves plenty of windows for Pokemon Presents.

Yup. I can't imagine Nintendo going to their investor meeting without dropping a few new dated games. Though I guess it could still be a partner showcase rather than a Direct.

It's likely 21st/22nd, they were planning this months in advance and am sure they figured that the more they will distance from E3 week, the better for them. To have media coverage all by themselves.

I think out of all the showcases Nintendo will be the dark horse! We have GOAT this year with TOTK , plus everything we see will be gameplay! Not stupid CGI or game footage! Yes Microsoft actually got 1 game out of the gate. That's not quite ready yet! But how long has that took. Sony was a no show, except innovative PSVR2!

I think the Direct will be not this, but next week. We still have seven other shows this week including Capcom and Ubisoft today and Mircrosoft round 2 on Tuesday. No need to share the spotlight even though Wednesday and Thursday are fairly empty.

Yeah echoing Bonejacks question - and would like a short recaps, what killed team september in the last week?

Been at a music festival for 5 days so I'm just too darn mess of a man right now (though getting to see Pantera, Ghost, Gojira and much more is worth it) but I cant muster the strength to read 60 pages :p
