It's finally time

If we get past July 21st without any more first party game announcements, YouTubers will have a field day. I can only imagine the "NO MORE GAMES!?!?" thumbnails.

But we're getting that June direct for sure. I'm not worried.

an astonishing number of people think we won't hear about another first party game by September 1st
A lot of people posting in these threads are essentially cowards, too scared to let themselves dream because it could result in disappointment. It is why they mask their cravenness as "reason" or "restraint", having forgotten what it means to live their life to the fullest. It is pathetic and it is disgusting.

I may have said this already but even if there are literally no games in 2023 past Pikmin 4, it will still be a good year for Switch.

for people on a video game forum, for sure

for investors? fam if they don’t have a big new game for holiday the stock price is gonna tank

That said, if Metroid Prime 4 somehow releases this holiday and it was worth the 6-year wait, then 2023 will be an absolutely legendary year for Nintendo Switch.

You know what, am getting kinda bored with Direct speculations, the cycle is mostly the same as of late, though the last summer with Partner Showcase and everything was entertaining as hell. But now? Number of games can be kinda limited to what makes sense to keep on new hardware and so on, hopefully once next-gen really starts to kick in the speculation will be back as it used to be, including speculating of announcement of next-gen Presentation.

You cannot say that you are getting bored with Direct speculation, you are the whole backbone and soul of the #JuneDirect movement

tbh if the rest of the industry is any indication, I think there’s gonna be a pretty long generational transition period where we get a lot of cross-gen games

TeamJune needs to live on it's own, it will just happen. Patience is not simply the ability to wait, it's how we behave while we're waiting.

Kinda how I feel. Be fun for surprises to be sprung at this point, and surely rumours and leaks haven't accounted for everything coming to Switch... but it's also very clear that if we're talking the next flagship games from EPD 8, Next Level, EPD 9, Monolith Soft, EPD 5, and so on, then they're either cross-gen or next-gen and so we're likely not seeing anything of it until after new hardware is announced.

A lot for me for second half 2023 would hang on what Nintendo decide to do with 2D Mario on Switch. If they really freshen up the aesthetics and music and world themes, and nail the level design as they often do, then that would be a really good swansong holiday title for Switch, with Metroid Prime 4 hopefully not too far behind. Otherwise, after Pikmin 4, I'm not sure what other new titles to expect that would really appeal to me. Maybe a new Tomodachi, but I feel like that'll be 2024.

Otherwise, it'll be my RPG backlog and indies carrying things after Pikmin (which you know, is still an excellent combination for me).

I'm hoping for something to happen like last year, where there was a leak that turned this thread into a rollercoaster that started with sheer hype and then dropped 100 miles into the pits of despair when we realized it would be a partner showcase. This thread was a circus and I don't know if we'll ever recreate that.

The funny part is how that partner showcase arguably ended up being the best Direct of the year.

Yeah, if anything the next flagship EPD titles like Mario Kart and new 3D Mario are next-get at this point, probably not even cross gen. They need to sell these new consoles somehow. While I don't think new hardware is releasing this year it's pretty obvious that it will be some point in 2024, which is still a great achievement getting 2 new EPD releases this year so far.

See the difference between you and me is that I think there's a pretty high chance the next Direct will be the next gen presentation. Would explain why Nintendo's been acting so weird lately.

tbh it’d make sense to start that presentation with new release Tears of the Kingdom running at 60 fps. Like “hey, that game you’ve all been playing? Well, coming in March 2024, hardware that can make it run like this

The famitsu thing feels about as "no shit" worthy as Kotaku's "Nintendo and Sony will have more shows this year". Of course Switch is getting 3rd party games this year, a ton of them have already been announced.

I mean, if we get a Nintendo Direct Mini Partner Showcase in June, technically that's still a Direct in June.

A shadowdropped mini direct is possible, but I don't see the point of a partner direct. They never have first party games, and therefore would not solve the problem of having no first party games dated after Pikmin. Unless they want to do separate presentations for 1st & 3rd parties? Even then, it would be more efficient to get everything done in one presentation.

Tune in at exactly 2 p.m. PST tomorrow for a #NintendoNanodirect featuring roughly one frame of information mostly focused on #NintendoSwitch games launching in the empty second half of 2023

It would soft confirm that Nintendo is planning to ride 3rd party titles and the announced dlc for Pokemon/Splatoon/Mario Kart for the back half of this year. They could still have a September direct that announces a game for Oct-Nov.

The only people that have a problem with "no dated games after pikmin" are people on forums like this. Normal people aren't obsessing over video game release calendars or seeking out any sliver of news they can find.

Shareholders will be like "wow Zelda sure is selling a ton, it's nice that they sold that Pikmin 4 game to those 7 people. That metroid prime game is still to be determined huh? okay way to go nice numbers"

And there's also the possibility that Nintendo just doesn't have the amount of first party stuff to warrant directs in both June and September. We are (seemingly) very close to the next generation of Nintendo hardware after all.

Instead they will open the direct with 60 fps totk footage, then cut to an indie headline with no mention of new hardware or further explanation

Mr. Takahashi will just say "what you just saw was emulated TOTK footage. Let's see our first batch of Nintendo Switch headlines."

Sounds like another Partner Showcase on the horizon.

The "It's About Fucking Time Partner Showcase", featuring:

  • Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
  • Batman Arkham
  • Tomb Raider
  • Mass Effect Legendary Edition
  • Ryu Ga Gotoku/Yakuza
  • The "Flops "R" Us Sega Pack", featuring Sakura Wars (2019) and Soul Hackers 2
  • Mega Man Legends 3 coming back from the grave out of nowhere

That would be awesome, ngl.
