Absolutely. I remember people trashing on the Sept 2019 Direct but ffs it revealed Xenoblade DE and that nearly made me cry
Exactly! Even the worst partner showcase with barely four games still had Shin Megami Tensei V. (I hope they’ll never have only four games in one show again though lol)

Has there ever been a Nintendo Direct without leaks or insider knowledge? If not, everything indicates that we really won't have one in June despite the empty calendar for the summer.
Back in the pre-Switch days, most Directs didn't leak much if at all. There are only two notable exceptions that come to mind.

I’m trying to imagine for fun(?) what the worst possible Direct would be with a bare minimum of four games. So far I have:

Everybody 1-2 Switch
Urban Champion comes to NSO
Bakugan 2 (hyped on Twitter beforehand)
New Farming game announced with a logo only reveal so no one knows whether to be mad or excited or not.

Metroid Prime Federation Force HD
I almost posted exactly that paired with a delay announcement for Prime 4 (and another joke that it was done to remind everyone who Sylux is lol), but I do think that game would be massively improved with button controls so I decided against it lol.

I also think that assuming Prime 4 is a holiday 2023 game, a game like Federation Force after the 1-2 punch of Dread and Prime 4 would be a lot better received by everyone. Could genuinely be a chance for Nintendo to do another gaas title where they updated the game with new missions and planets to explore.

Yeah there’s a hypothetical better version of this game / concept that’s also better received when the franchise is clearly in good health. I really want to see multiplayer Zelda finally take off first, but multiplayer Metroid done right could be very cool.

The fact there hasn't been an online 4 sword game is just another confirmation that Nintendo is doomed imo.

Edit; And I don't need anyone to "well actually" me on Triforce Heroes. I played it online, it was great, but it's not the dream of a full on 4 player coop Zelda adventure.

Four Swords on Switch would be so rad! I keep hoping they’ll bring back Adventures in particular with online play if we can’t get a new game.

I really think they should copy what Square Enix did with FFCC and Chocobo GP. Let one person buy the game and your friends can play with you with a Lite version. They almost had it with Triforce Heroes, but it was local only and it required three people.

They mostly just need to port FSA. It sucks that so many people don't know that's a full-fledged Zelda game that's mostly well-received even outside of multiplayer even because they get it and the other Four Swords game (which was ported to DSiWare) confused.

Would be very funny if a DLC or small game gets announced on its own soon and then everyone starts doomposting about no direct, then a direct is announced a few weeks later like in September 2021.

I have a great reason for why Nintendo needs a direct this summer

Because i need Grasshoper to announce the remastered of Flower,Sun and Rain in a direct, and see the reaction from people who have no idea what they are looking at

Announcement today, Direct tomorrow.

Why not?
Why shouldn't I believe it?

I see we're back to thinking that the reason for the packed H1 and presumably empty H2 is "because Nintendo".
This has been happening for months, because Fami.

In all seriousness, it's not like Nintendo always pack the second half of the year. Last year they had 4 titles at retail, plus a Kirby game on the eShop, from July through December - 5 if you include Sparks of Hope, which they published in Japan. 2021 had 5 titles in the second half after a busy first half that was mostly packed with smaller titles.

Realistically, there'll be something like 3 or 4 games other than Pikmin 4, and maybe one of those Nintendo bank on being a big seller cough 2D Mario cough. 1 or 2 of those games are probably re-releases. Add on the DLC for Kart, Splatoon, Pokemon, and potentially Zelda, and content wise things would be very steady for them. If anything I'm more interested to see if Nintendo or someone like HAL have anything fun for the eShop, and to see if Zelda does get DLC and what the scope of that is. I'd genuinely be happy to wait until next spring if it meant a meaty expansion for Tears of the Kingdom arrived then, after the presumable wave 1 of Master Mode plus something frivolous.

56% of us so far feel good about June according to the poll. We have to pump that number up a good bit higher. Less than 24 hours to go to Direct Month, let’s get some hype going!

the thing is also right, like, Nintendo plans their software schedule probably like years in advance to have a good cadence of releases, so it's not like they went "oh shoot we're launching a new system next year, we have no games in H2 now" or anything.
Things may slow down a bit, sure but they probably have some smaller stuff and a 2D Mario coming up to hold us over until the next system launches sometime next year.
When you think about it, August would be a very weird month for them to hold a Direct just for Gamescom if they have half a year to a whole year of Switch still ahead of them at that point before they have to market their next console.

We should get a running list of good reasons going why there is a Direct in June:

1: They plan to sell 15 million Switches - Zelda and Pikmin alone aren’t enough.

2: The release calendar is running thin - Pikmin 4, Metroid Prime 4, and Detective Pikachu 2 are literally it right now and we’ve seen absolutely nothing for Metroid Prime 4 and Detective Pikachu 2.

3: Investor meeting is coming up - they won’t have just Pikmin and Prime 4 on that long running release calendar list. (Detective Pikachu 2 won’t be listed)

4: 3rd Party Games need detailing - while we do have a good June ahead and an independently good forming September ahead, the last Direct basically just took us until July, so from Nintendo directly we need to hear more. 3rd parties pay to be featured in these things, so one way or another something is happening for third parties.

5: We have a solid amount of rumored games and job listings to look at - There are games in the works clearly. Most popular front runners are 2D Mario (job listings), Donkey Kong (rumored and job listings) and potential remasters.

6: A growing amount of candidates for 3rd party appearances - we have a pretty solid amount of third party games that could show up at Nintendo show from Square Enix (Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D and Monsters), Capcom (Ace Attorney), Level 5 (Layton, Fantasy Life, and Decapolice), and Marvelous (Daemon X Machina 2 and more) at least. The other regulars like Koei Tecmo, Namco Bandai, and Sega you could come up with potential games for easily if you wanted.

7: H1 was stacked for Nintendo - If Nintendo actually ran out of games ahead, they’d shuffle games and DLC around. They created a black hole of info to get all eyes on Zelda. Soon Zelda’s time alone in the spotlight will inevitably end.

8: Pikmin 4 needs help - I adore Pikmin, but it needs all the marketing love it can get. What better way to get eyes on it than one last Direct appearance potentially where they announce what multiplayer modes it’ll have.

9: Mario Kart Wave 5 teaser - waves 3 and 4 both had a two track teaser ahead of release in a Direct. Seems like a good thing to keep going.

10: Zelda TK DLC announcement - the seemingly inevitable DLC announcement will likely come in a Direct to get as many eyes on it as possible. They might not want to wait too long as more people start finishing it.

Ok I had fun hitting ten, that’s enough for now lol. Oh wait one more:

11: Switch 2 is likely backwards compatible - any and all efforts now will only help Switch 2 going forward. There’s no reason to stop the software and there’ll likely be a good cross gen period anyway since the Switch userbase is so huge and engaged.

A June Direct of some sort is coming and it’s going to be cool.

Metroid Prime Federation Force HD
They could reboot the idea of that game, discard those awful chibi graphics, longer and better story plus horror setting, make it both a good singleplayer and multiplayer game, and it could be a GREAT game.

The idea of exploring the Metroid universe with weaker characters instead of the legendary chosen one is really exciting for a spin-off.

For the first time in ages I feel like I don't really need Direct as usually, but that does not mean there isn't one. There is a General Nintendo Direct in June 2023, no matter what doubters try to say. You just need to accept the fact that General Direct is in June right now, we don't have much time left. The train is about to move from this station, and the next one is Kyoto.

I am right, I'm always right. One time I thought I was wrong, I found out I was right.

It's conflicting. We don't really need a Direct because most franchises are already represented on Switch and next gen could be coming pretty soon. On the other hand we need a Direct now more than ever, because there are literally 0 dated games after Pikmin 4. It's going to be weird going into a Direct with zero expectations (aside from maybe Prime 4) and very few leaks (thus far). Who knows what will show up? I'm really looking forward to it for that reason.

We at least know what will not show up, new 3D Mario.
