StarTopic Marvel Cinematic Universe |ST| The Eternal Universe

I think they've made it obvious at this point that every show prior to Disney+ won't be referenced or recognized. Edwin Jarvis was a nice appearance in Endgame but I also think that was just a nice "oh, Tony's dad had his own JARVIS too" and the stars aligned a bit there, what with Markus, McFeely and Feige all being involved with Agent Carter. Maybe there's plans for more Howard Stark appearances in the future and therefore more Jarvis.

I love Agents of Shield, but at this point I don't ever expect any film or television show to acknowledge it, nor do I expect to see any of those characters come back and reference their adventures on that show. I'd love to see Quake pop up somewhere on Disney+ the same way I'd love to see the cast of Daredevil come back. But it'll all be soft-reboots of those characters in my opinion.
This is pretty much where I'm at on all points. Guess we'll see if the rumors about Murdock showing up as Peter Parker's lawyer pan out.

There sure is a sandy fist in the bottom-right corner. 🤔

Technically it’s “oh that’s where Tony got the name Jarvis from” to be more precise

Yeah I highly doubt they're going to use that on the big screen in theaters. Probably just for on set stuff.

I like how Feige joined Famiboards under a different name trying to be stealthy, but then picked an avatar of his face like we wouldn't notice. It's literally the opposite of what Geoff Keighley did at ERA. 😏

So I'm really liking Phase 4 yall. Shang-Chi and Eternals were both basically exactly what I was hoping they'd be and I am pumped.

Also was anyone else tripping over the name-drop in the mid-credits scene? 🤣

My friend and I just finished What If…? and it was better than I thought! I had wrote it off but it actually is seemingly canon.

Mad about the very obviously cut Tony and Gamora episode though 😭

Confirms what everyone already thought, I assume?
Yup.

Don’t read the below spoiler if you don’t want to. No really. I’m warning you.

Srsly.

You sure?

Okay.

- One picture of Peter, May, Happy and Matt Murdock (Daredevil) (Charlie Cox) discussing at a table.

- One picture of Holland, Maguire and Garfield in their Spider-suits

Okay, yeah, exactly what I've been expecting for like... a while. 😅 Should be a kick! I just hope they don't spoil it in any trailers. I enjoy hearing people flip out in theaters.

I've given up guessing when we're getting a trailer lol. I think these leaks have disturbed a few plans and they're trying to figure out the best way moving forward, what to show and what not to show.

Been away for a few weeks because I had some assignments and stuff to take care of. Got round to seeing Eternals, and I liked it. Loved the cast, and was surprised at how they restrained themselves with Jolie, I was expecting to see her a lot more front and center. But Chan and Madden are wonderful leads. I'll delve into more spoilery bits here:

I didn't expect the turn from Ikaris, which was a nice surprise. However I felt this came at the cost of a rather pointless CG deviant villain. We see them start to gather powers from others, and then they get dispatched in a cave by Thena. Nice catharsis for the character but also kinda felt that whole side of the film then ultimately felt pointless. I get the whole Eternals and Deviants are two sides of the same coin, both made by Celestial dude. Would have been nice to explore that transformation from Deviant into more "human" looking Eternal as more powers were taken. Dane exists solely to set up his character in the future, but I'm looking forward to that.

Harry Styles as Star Fox got a high pitched squeal from a lady sitting in the same row as me, Marvel totally knows what they're doing. I think he's a decent actor, at least from what I can remember from Dunkirk. And the MCU doesn't need the best of the best, so I think he's a good fit judging from that brief interaction. I'm looking forward to see what they do in the sequel. And Blade!! I didn't recognise the voice and I'm guessing the majority of people won't either, so I don't entirely understand why they chose to use Blade.

It's Disney+ Day so I hope we get to see plenty of new stuff today. I want to see some She-Hulk footage!

I saw Shang-Chi yesterday and I must say I really liked it! I hope they release Eternals within roughly the same time for streaming.

We watched Black Widow on D+ for the first time this morning. It's... probably one of my favorite non-team up films in the MCU? I thought this was supposed to be one of the worst? All of the interactions between Natasha + Yelena + Alexi + Milena were great, and I loved how so much of the film was that sort of stuff. The third act was also a pretty unique setup and set piece.

If this had come out right after Civil War I think it's reception would be more positive.

Yeah that’s the general feeling, it’s fun but it feels like it was supposed to be 8 years ago and is just a little off now

Not sure if it's PR speak or if it's legitimate, but Feige was trying to get Black Widow off the ground for a while. From what I've read, Perlmutter apparently had really strong opinions about movies being headlined by.. uh.. heroes of certain demographics, and was constantly blocking some of Feige's attempts. And as soon as Perlmutter was out Feige got straight to putting Black Widow and Captain Marvel in the pipeline, which is why those movies seem strangely placed in their relative release schedule.

So I agree, Black Widow would've been received far better if it had been released in the slot it took place in, rather than being one of the follow-up films to the impossible-to-live-up-to Endgame.
Similarly, I think Captain Marvel wouldn't have drawn as much ire if it hadn't followed the Infinity War cliffhanger, while audiences were still hungry for a conclusion.
Yes I know there were other reasons it drew ire but those reasons were bullshit.

Hey do any of yall ever have that thing where a random idea hits your head that you suddenly want with an outrageous intensity even though if you hadn't had the thought you wouldn't have ever noticed the lack of it?
. . .

Anyway if Paul Rudd doesn't say "Hey, look at us" in Quantumania I think I'm gonna scream for a week.

I thought I'd be more hyped from the Spidey trailer. I'm still seeing it day 1 of course
Two reasons I'm not hyped from the trailer:
1. The multitude of villains gives me Spiderman 3 and Amazing Spiderman 2 vibes
2. The biggest stuff rumored for this movie (which I shoulder the blame for spoiling myself) wasn't unveiled, therefore there's still this feeling of "come on already," although this is actually good because one of my primary complaints these days is that trailers spoil too much and I was wondering if they'd show restraint.

I imagine it's tough to cut a compelling trailer whole trying to keep so much of the movie under wraps, so the fact that this one is a little meh is probably fine. The movie will likely be front-to-back fanservice which I'll probably enjoy.

It's not the best trailer, especially since it's intentionally hiding what everyone and their grandmothers probably already know (not that I think it's a bad idea to keep it under wraps for those who have managed to still be unaware)

Lmao the Brazilian dub trailer shows Lizard getting hit in the face by an invisible force
I can't believe Ant-Man is in this

Honestly

Sure it's pretty obvious the other Spider-Men are in now but I'm honestly way more excited for Charlie Cox's Daredevil to show up than anything. I have more of a connection to that series (one of my favorite TV shows of all time) than any of the previous two live-action Spideys

I donno I thought the trailer was hype as fuuuuuuuck

Anything with MCU Doctor Strange is great in my book, and then there’s all the childhood nostalgia crammed into this movie..

I'm still trying to figure out why Strange's demeanor was sorta.. off.. in the first trailer. The part where he was talking to Wong seemed a bit weird and forced, but maybe they just used a strange strange take for the trailer? I saw some theories that it's not really him but I guess that's gonna be a boilerplate theory for every MCU movie from here on out, and at least the latest trailer makes him seem a lot more normal. I mean, "normal" is a relative term here but still. 😅

I'm surprised they didn't at least show
Daredevil in the trailer, that could have worked as a somewhat okay misdirection for hiding the other Spider-Men.

Though the fact Kingpin is reportedly in Hawkeye suggests Marvel might prefer dropping the surprise there instead. (The series will be one Episode away from the finale by the time No Way Home hits theaters.)

I'd sincerely be more hyped about getting D'Onofrio as Fisk in the MCU than I would be about Daredevil. Not that I don't want Cox's Daredevil in the MCU, just that I loved D'Onofrio's performance that goddamn much.

Well, Marvel didn't allow him to be used in Hit Monkey.....

Also, bruh

So what's the verdict here? Messy editing OR are we going with the idea that Marvel is doing this on purpose to generate buzz? Because, I mean... how do you miss a whole-ass arm?

Somebody get Corridor Digital on this like now. 😂

Didn't know this until just now, but the film actually has the highest audience score on rotten tomatoes too, and I can definitely see why. The choreography in the film was absurdly good
Mmhm. Choreographed by the late great Brad Allan, of Jackie Chan's stunt team. Also choreographed Kingsmen, Scott Pilgrim, Kick-Ass, The World's End.. one of the greats!

Corridor just put out a Stuntmen React video with a couple of the action designers for Shang-Chi, and there's some neat stuff in it:

I'm particularly impressed by the fact that these guys went from doing YouTube stunt videos (one of them was part of the live action My Hero Academia videos that I'm sure yall've seen), to helping film a damn Marvel movie, and they talk about how even on these massive, big-budget films there's still room for doing things in more of a scrappy, indie way
(and the previz they show for the final fight is an awesome and hilarious example).
