Occam's razor

In simpler language, Occam's razor states that the simplest explanation is preferable to one that is more complex. Simple theories are easier to verify. Simple solutions are easier to execute.

Pluralitas non est ponenda sine necessitate.
I.e. One should not postulate plurality (of reasons or causes) unless it is necessary.
Or in a later formulation

Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem.
I.e. Entities are not to be multiplied more than is necessary.
This can be interpreted in two slightly different ways. The first can be described as follows:

If there are several explanations for a phenomenon, it is better to prefer the least complicated one.
A more precise (narrower) understanding of Occam's razor concerns part of one theory:

If a part of a theory is not necessary to obtain results, it does not belong in the theory.

TLDR: mid-June Direct with announcements of H2 titles, followed by Pikmin 4 Direct week after that.
July Direct

It would be on-brand for Switch era Nintendo to skip having a holiday game entirely this year. Wouldn't be surprised if they aren't launching anything major after Pikmin 4 and are saving everything for the next system. Or maybe shadowdrop a small H2 title on Twitter at most.

They can coast on TOTK's success, Pikmin 4, and Zelda/Pokemon/Mario Kart DLC.
it would be on brand for Switch era Nintendo to do something they haven't done during the Switch era?

They really can't. And they never did.
The absolute closest they did was 2020, but that year still had a ~9M selling September game, and February had a 11M+ selling game.
They won't wait until spring 2024 or holiday 2024 to release a major title after Zelda/Pikmin.
Switch sales are declining, they won't make it fall off a cliff by not having a major game in the holiday season.

Don't forget Age of Calamity, which released in November 2020 and sold over 3M units.

Every year in the Switch era had a major holiday release. This just seems like pessimism for the sake of pessimism.
Nah, I think people look at the Wii U to Switch transition and think, because Switch took off, that's a desirable strategy. In reality, Wii U absolutely wasn't worth supporting any longer because it was a commercial disaster; the cut and run logic really isn't applicable to Switch, which is Nintendo's most profitable system and biggest ever software market. The unified development environment is there to ensure that, from Switch onwards, Nintendo don't struggle with software shortages at the end and beginning of a system's life; emphasis on end of a system's life as well as beginning.

Cba digging it up, but Iwata covered their approach to transitions pretty clearly when talking about NX. The approach they took with Wii U to Switch wasn't their model for the future, it was pretty much a necessity because of the particular circumstances at the time. This generational transition is the first time we'll see that restructure tested properly.

I expect a june direct with

  • DLC info of current products
  • Prime 4 reveal
  • 2D/3D plattform coming from EPD
  • Another Gamecube remaster shadowdropped
  • some third party reveals, either new titles or impossible ports

Their FY pattern so far is a “big” title each 2 months (may 3D Zelda, july Pikmin) so maybe they can have something new for september, november and then january or march. Past FY they put 4 new “big” titles made by their first/second party (july xeno 3, september splatoon 3, november pokémon s/v, january fire emblem engage). They can repeat the pattern this year.

september and november titles will very probably be announced at mid year direct. Then their big january can also be announced there.

I think the assumption there is that they'd want a Direct before gamescom to announce the games they'll be showing off at gamescom.
Gamescom is late August, plenty of time foe a early to mid August Nintendo direct, then have the new games Playable at Gamescom

The next direct will be in late June/early July. As is tradition, and also in tradition I will get my heart crushed because Metroid Prime 4, Lost Kingdoms 3 or Golden Sun 4 won't be there 😢

The question I have is how many original (aka non-port/remake/remaster) first-party titles does Switch still have after Pikmin?

There are some that have been strongly alleged but not confirmed to exist, there are some we know exist but haven't seen (MP4). How many do you think will actually show up on Switch? Which (if any) become cross-releases? Which will only be on the next thing?

Of course this ties directly into when you think the next thing will actually show up. But I'm just interested where people stand here.
Without looking at other peoples predictions

2d mario
Fe4 remake
Metroid prime 4
Mokepd
Rhythm heaven
Kirby spin off
And either tomodachi life switch or ring fit 3

None of these are cross release but they will still be sold for the new console.

Okay, so... I know this might be crazy, but: I'm gonna predict that we do, in fact, get a June General Direct, and it reveals the long-rumored FE4 remake, which will release later this year. It'll basically be a repeat of Pokemon Arceus releasing in January followed by Scarlet/Violet late in the year.

If the Switch 2 releases at the end of this year, then maybe it'll even be cross-gen, or at least have a Switch 2 patch 🤔

I used to enjoy reading his stuff for a laugh, but when he started going off on aggressive tirades about specific Fami users his bullshit blog became a hard pass for me. I can't even laugh at it anymore.

Legitimately, how has Zippo ever been remotely considered credible? His hit to miss ratio almost makes markomaro blush
none of what he said is relevant. Us fools been saying those things for months now lmfao.

And saying their finished in 2023 with this Nitnendo is hardly news too.

markomaro is a complete legend, he just posts random stuff, and even when he is wrong he still keeps the tweets there and people are still reporting on him for multiple years now.

At the very least we may get these things announced:
  • various remakes and remasters such as FE: Genealogy of the Holy War and TTYD
  • Metroid Prime 4
  • Pikmin 4
  • more NSO updates
  • more Kirby

This was a thing? I don't even remember this.
Yes. Several times. As recently as like a month or two ago. Literally picking out conversations people are having here on Fami and going on angry rants about the users because the conversations don't line up with what he's "leaked."

There's no Mario games because Nintendo killed him and now they only release embellished biopics of his past exploits.

If TTYD remaster actually happens, would there be any chance of them adding new content to incentivize returning players? Like 3D World adding Bowser's Fury, Xenoblade adding Future Connected, and Pikmin 3's new side stories.

The game had a minstrel who tells parts of the story of the original four heroes who sealed away the Shadow Queen. I'm just saying, you could make a Torna-like campaign out of that.

My source told me that we could possibly see Zelda Wii U ports in the 2023 holiday season.

My source: the spooky shadow goblin under my bed

Nah screw that I wanna see Luigi's Adventure in the Waffle Kingdom

That being said I feel like those games are different due to being more recent or being in a story heavy series with a future and lore which can have further relevance. So unless we're getting a "true" (as elitist as that sounds) third Paper Mario, as in a third RPG with partners I wouldn't bet on it. Much more reasonably I'm wondering if chapter 4 and 7 will have some way in which they are cut down (or maybe there's just fast travel in general)

2D Mario is a safe bet because we know EPD 10 started a 2D project in October 2019 and they're the 2D Mario team. What was the original source for TTYD? I've heard about that getting remastered several times but can't remember who put it out there.

remind me, how did we know it was 10?

someone on this forum I think, ngl kinda skeptical myself but fun to entertain at least, I guess I just can't help but feel that game coming back has been in the talks for so long like I remember a 4chan video of the title screen supposedly on a 3ds in 2015

Obviously I would love a general direct, and given the lack of titles announced for the second half of the year that seems like a decent bet, but I am going to set expectations for a Partner Showcase and some twitter drops of remasters just so I don't end up disappointed. New hardware being on the horizon is too much of a wild card to be sure Nintendo will follow the routine.

At this point TTYD is talked about for at least a more than a year now, not just by this Fami rumor. This for me is like the 2D DK talk, I kinda lost traction completely, talking in circles.

Because it was in the hiring (Kyoto). I don't think there is any reason to expect any other EPD Kyoto group to work on 2D game. Even more when the hiring went in October 2019, few months after Maker 2 was finished.
I don't disagree, but I remembered this conjecture rather than confirmation
