StarTopic Xenoblade 3: Future Redeemed |ST| Ontos the Next One

Still not entirely sure how to feel about the combat. Unlike Torna, which honestly felt like its own thing in many ways and could’ve been stretched across a full game easily, Future Redeemed is very much an XC3 combat offshoot. It works well with the limited scope of the game, but as a whole it’d get a lot older much more quickly if it lasted any longer. Lots of smart changes, but the class system was what defined XC3’s combat, and it just isn’t the same without it. Gets the job done, and it fits the quicker pace, but while I like both XC2 and Torna combat for different reasons, Future Redeemed combat is a downgrade to me. Still quite fun, but it’s not really close to XC3.

However, tying character progression to basic world exploration is absolutely ingenious, especially with how everything is tracked. Hopefully this is a permanent change, because it’s easily my favorite change that Future Redeemed has made.

So I pretty much never did character swapping in other Xenoblades because I just don't feel comfortable trying to learn different characters in a realtime auto-attack game (it's all a bit much for my brain to handle, I can barely wrap my head around the systems the MC has at their disposal) but I'm finally doing it here.

Because goddamn Shulk and Rex.

For any other Xeno 1 fans this DLC is a treat. It's my favourite of the 3 games and there's a lot of stuff here to geek over

Also I love Rex talking about Dunban."Was he your mentor or brother in law?" and Shulk bascially confirming both
This is why I retroactively feel much better about not having replayed Xeno 1 when Definitive Edition came out (just played FC and banked the remake for later). It really feels like coming home to a place you haven't been in a really long time. I bet this would've hit a bit less hard if I had just played XDE 3 years ago.

Also sandwich!!!!. lol

Having not started it and not being sure when I can start Future Redeemed, I'd also be really curious to know how long it took. Also, did you mostly concentrate on the main quest, or did you do a lot of side content?

Thanks!
It's about 12-14 hours for the main quest, I did about 5 more hours of side quests but there is a ton of stuff to do especially if you want to unlock everything. The side quests are really good and many unlock stuff or lead you to cool areas with elites and chests.

Ironically I tried Xeno 1 back in 2013 and wasn't really feeling it (lol) and barely left Colony 9/Tephra Hill.

but even after playing DE and actually being more open to the series...and ended up loving up I STILL felt some feels up to Chapter 3 in FR. The magic of timeless music and strong environment design somehow left an impact barely three years later.

I hope they incorporate an iconic section from 2 in this game. For context of where I'm am I'm only up to
Riku's Workshop scenario quest.

After all the jokes and memes about him N's entrance is one of the most unintentionally hilarious thing in the series.

What I love about it is how much it feels like a legit mix of XB 1&2. The Shelf as an area has XB1 vibes while the music feels very, very XB2, so the feel of the place is a nice mix of the two games, as opposed to just a mishmash of landmarks like the main game had.

I just wish 2 got the same amount of love that 1 got

Regarding the amount of locations, from memory we have stuff like:

  • Colony 9, which is actually a functional Colony 9 as opposed to ancient ruins or something!
  • Colony 9 music
  • Xenoblade 1 battle theme
  • a Tephra Cave analogue, in the Sealed Cave
  • Tephra Cave music
  • actual Tephra Cave, although "reformed" aka just a small room
  • Guar Plains analogue
  • Valak Mountain
  • Shulk, and all his movesets and dialogue
  • Sharla's daughter (implied)

  • Aurora Shelf night music kinda sounds like Torigoth night music I guess
  • I guess the big Pioneer's Point tree kind of reminds me of Uraya, at night (which is beautiful btw)
  • Rex and all his dialogue
  • Pandy's daughter (implied)

Keep in mind I'm midway through chapter 4

Part of me just feels a little depressed I didn't get to see Argentum or Gormott or something. Oh well. At least I always have Torna!!

Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely loving Future Redeemed. The fact that
They canonized my headcanon cope that Origin was created based on Alvis' Trinity Processor core
makes Xenoblade 3 retroactively better in my eyes.

About 4 hours in now. Really enjoying myself! Wild to think that I’ve been playing Xenoblade for 13 years.

I wanted to go straight into another XC3 playthrough after this and still might, but also…the first one. It’s also making me want to replay Xenoblade Chronicles 2, a game I weirdly remember kind of not liking but:

— I played it once, six years ago
— My kid was like 1 at the time and it’s entirely possible I wasn’t in the headspace for a massive RPG
— I played the vast majority of it before it received any patches
— I never played Torna

Might be time to give it a solid second play once all this is fresh in my mind

I was wondering if this bit would improve that aspect of 3's plot for you like it did me. Glad to hear it!

if you played 2 already once you're in the perfect position if you do NG+ now with all the toys and freedom and lots of the annoying stuff removed AND you can get all the characters now

also, you absolutely NEED to play Torna. Torna is like this but for 2. Cut out all the annoying bits, just pure game, absolutely sick battle music and generally a slightly more grown-up vibe.

If it helps, Torna is my absolute #1 favorite piece of Xenoblade

My favorite music, (most of) my favorite characters, my favorite gameplay, and god, Dannagh desert is beautiful

Oh also jazz

Just beat the boss at the beginning of Chapter 4.

I feel like they could have given Xenoblade 3 a second half after the Eclipse with this content. Chapters 6 and 7 never sat right with me.

That's Dunban's house over there!

Is it true this game is shorter than Torna?
Main campaign might be able to be finished a bit faster given you’re not required to complete sidequests to progress it lol

But to me it feels like a bigger package. In terms of story and world

Do the characters in the main game run this painfully slow (without upgrades)? I think not.

Bring back the sprint button, cowards!

Plz 🥺

Hey quick question, and I don't want spoilery answers, hopefully just a yes or no so I can stop racking my brain about it:
Did I hear Matthew say their region was in the middle of Aionos? Are they actually right smack in the middle where Origin is in the main game?

Do they explain how Shulk and Rex are like… still alive lol? Like it’s been 100s of years in Aoinios already and they’re not part of the cycle no?
Yeah this is something I was also wondering about from the start. It looks like a plot hole to me, but I hope they will explain this later (Im at the end of ch3)

They seem to be in the same boat as Melia and Nia. I guess a few important characters were able to survive the worlds crossing over long enough to enter Origin, which then stopped them from aging for some unexplained reason (probably since it’s the “endless now”. Since they aren’t dead, Z can’t make them into soldiers.

Also, is it just me or are some of these UM names the best in the series? Treehugger Gerald and Bioluminescent Bob both had me cackling.

Actually I wonder how any of the people outside the cycle are alive, since as far as I remember as soon as the merging began everyone pretty much, like, died? 😅
edit: actually I think @Thunder84 just answered that question of mine, too 😅

I didn’t question it much with Melia and Nia given their race but for Shulk and Rex it’s weird, though that is a good assumption

anyone know where to get shoox flower whiskers? I need a 4th one for the upgrade thing and have no idea where I got the 3 I have already from before
It's from the fish things in the water surrounding
Colony 9
Specifically the western side is where I got them

thanks

I did go through all the item drops for enemies I had unlocked in the bestiary thing and didn't see it I guess some of them have multiple items they can drop and only list one of them or something

For what it’s worth, Future Redeemed does give a definitive explanation that I just saw. So you’ll get some answers.

Does anyone know where the north Ether Mast is in Aurora Shelf? I've been wandering for like an hour trying to find anything at all, and nothing's popping up.

EDIT: Finally found it, it’s tucked behind the Agnus outpost in the lower area

is that soma bringers beginning??!!, maybe the next action game could be soma bringer remake it actually is a action diablo like game

Shulk and Rex have such a good cop/bad cop routine going on. You can tell their parenting styles from it

Black crystals PLEEEAAASSEE help me find some I got so many lifts to build😭

there's a couple of them in the area right after you use the first lift, I just went through there and found like 2-3 exploring

I would assume there's probably some in black mountain too but I just got there and stopped playing for the moment
