absolutely incredible branding holy shit
FWIW it's the same as the 2019 tournament branding. The little squids with the regional foods were used for both the 2019 European Championship and the 2019 Koshien Championship.

Fresh 2023 will probably end on May 31st, and the latest Splatfest will be held during the first two days of April, so that leaves us with almost two month for events. We know there is a 3rd type of special event, Eggstra Work, scheduled for April.
As far as I know, there isn't a new type of Salmon Run boss in the game data yet, and with the exception of October 2022, there has been an event per month, with a pattern* of 1 Big Run + 2 Splatfests per season.

So, do you think there will be a Splatfest during May or will it be an October situation again? What about the supposed big balance patch?

* Drizzle 2022 was a shorter season, so I'm doing a little bit of assumption here :p

New Splatfest is probably happening in May. Now to decide if I want this season's titles or just get the next ones instead, because according to my seeds I won't be getting any of the seasonal banners nor titles for a while (I'm currently at 50 pulls from the titles and then like 2000 pulls away for the next gold and silver balls 😭)

I will be attempting to qualify for the Dutch championships! Unlikely to win it, but I think I have a good chance to qualify at least.
Unlikely why? You're so freaking good! 🤩

I'm really good, but there's some Dutch players better than me 😅 Last time Dutch champs happened I did get 2nd place, and I do have some really strong teammates I'll likely be playing with, but I've heard of another team or 2 forming that have a high chance to best us

Are there any videos of those matches?
I'm looking forward to watching the 2023 battles :D

Watched the Dutch championship. I wish I was half as good T_T

The video made me miss Splatoon 2 maps, and watching people play made me realize how "slow" S2 seems/feels, but not necessarily in a bad way.

Sub Power Up is broken on Fizzy, Tri Nouveau benefits so much from the boosted range + paint + special output (aka most of its weaknesses covered)

Yeah! My team in 2019 was Last Minute Squad

So cool! Good luck this year!

So what catalog level are you at? I am at 35, haven't played as much as I wanted as of late but am assuming some of you completed first catalog already and just getting those mystery boxes.
I completed mine right before splatfest and I considered the amount I played to be "not a lot" 😅

Nice job Nintendo UK, announcing a qualifier for national championships THREE DAYS in advance

EDIT: and there's a LAN happening in France this weekend that a bunch of high level UK players are attending. What a mess.

29. Only got to play in the beginning of the season and this past weekend. Been too busy or too tired. Shame bc I normally hop on the week before a Splatfest and grind for the conch shells. Just wasn't feeling it this time tho.

Nintendo and e-sports clusterfucks, name a more iconic duo.

Level 68. Hope to have it done and dusted by the halfway point of this month so I can use the hour/two hours I play this daily on some other stuff. Until the next season rolls around, of course!

I just finished it today! now I can stop getting my daily dub lol

Catalog #2, level 58. I completed it just before the Splatfest and then I got 56 conch shells during the fest :p

What are you all playing besides Splatoon?

Most of the time I can play 1~2 hours on weekdays, so the thought of starting a new game isn't usually on my mind. I find the idea of learning new controls, settings, lore, etc. and starting from zero (especially if it's a long game) so exhausting and overwhelming at times, that I'd rather play something quick and "easy" that I'm already familiar with.

I think the only new game I've played this year is Metroid Prime Remastered, and only because it isn't long, I know the game really well from all my GameCube and Wii replays, and it's a masterpiece ✨.

It doesn't help that I always put my consoles away [in their boxes] when not in use, so if I want to play a PS5 title I have to get the hardware out of its box (it's so heavy 😭) and connect everything. And when I'm done, it all goes back. I guess this is why the Switch is so appealing for me, it's small and light, I just dock it and I'm ready to play (only Splatoon 😋)

This is me! The idea of playing a [different] game is more enticing than actually playing it, I suppose 😅

Haha this is quite relatable. I also have quite some games that I have yet to play, while I still play Splatoon daily, because of how fun and easy it is to quickly play a couple of matches.

Atm though I'm also slowly progressing with Metroid Prime 3 and a bit of Warioware on the side.

I am planning on eventually quitting Splatoon 3 for a bit once I have 3 star freshness on every weapon. Lately I've been playing Nautilus and gotta say what an absolute joy! Shame I hadn't come across it sooner, because it's such a fun powerhouse. It does take some getting used to but after that it's really satisfying

I need remasters of Prime 2 and 3 🥺
Where are you in 3? The game has two of my favorite tunes in gaming (one is a boss fight, the other one is the credits song).

I only took a small break from Splatoon 2 during its second year, IIRC, but after it I never stopped playing regularly until 3 released. I'm not planning to stop playing 3 any time soon, but I don't see myself investing +4000 hours on it like a did with 2 either (different point in life, I guess).

Why are you quitting the game? Are you coming back eventually? Feel free to not respond if it's too personal or private :p

As for Prime 3, I'm playing it on Wii U virtual console. Let me guess, the boss theme you really like is Rundas' theme? :p That one's really good in my opinion. I haven't rolled the credits yet, but I'm pretty close I feel: 80% of items and just beat Omega Ridley, so now I have to find my way to the pirate leviathan circling the homeworld. Hoping to beat it this weekend.

As for Splatoon, I really enjoy the game, but also want to focus on some other things in life, and some other games I still have to beat haha. I've been accumulating a solid amount of clips so maybe I'll turn them into a nice montage showcasing every weapon. Would be a nice opportunity to brush up on my editing skills too.

I'll probably still play during new season starts and events, but not daily anymore.

This isn't real, but I could 100% see Splatoon being the first Nintendo series to receive some kind of pride-related content, although more subtle than this. Next season starts the same day as pride month too winking at Nintendo

Between this weekend's first non-Big Run ???? rotation with horrorboros and Eggstra Work that's two special Salmon Run weekends at Sockeye in a row. The developers sure love Sockeye Station

Thankfully they do, it's the best salmon run map.

Ok @Lucyfer can you explain something to me? Is there some sort of meta that makes people NOT destroy Ink Beakons? As in, there are three Ink Beacon right next to home base, there was a huge fight at home base and everyone sees the Ink Beakons in plain sight...but charges ahead anyways and doesn't even fire at the Ink Beakons. Because the last five matches it happened where this happened. And the team would get ambushed and we'd get knocked out.

It's called people being bad at the game, never pressing the X button and not recognizing the sound effect beakons make

I feel like beacons in general are weak, because not enough people use them. I tried running supportive beacon setups in Xrank but even there I often was the only one using them despite the massive advantage they give, especially when the entire team uses it.

I've come to the conclusion that either they don't see them or are afraid to use and destroy them

They're super strong, but if nobody is using them obviously they're not good

Given that I just got transphobic slurs thrown at me, especially so soon after I posted a trans-positive post a few days ago, I'm going to test something.

I'm not trans. I'm genderfluid. If people are going to throw slurs at me, at least they can insult me right.

If this causes a change, this will be my last post in this OT.

Honestly forget beacons are thing half the time because they rarely get used, thankfully I check my map often enough when they do come into play

When I think Side Order will be released:

Octo Expansion

Octo Expansion announcement on March 8th 2018 Direct, 2 minute trailer, Nogami talks briefly about it. Summer 2018 date given, pre-orders available right after. It was listed on the eShop to by out by July 31st 2018

early April 2018 - German Splatoon Facebook page briefly lists it for July 13th release (the same day as Pearl and Marina amiibo). Nintendo took it down really shortly.

March 20th 2018 - few seconds of gameplay shown in the Nintendo Switch Spring 2018 japanese ad.

April, May 2018 - Nintendo Japan shows various stages in small gameplay videos. link link link
late May 2018 - some outlets had change to try it, impressions out.

E3 2018 Direct on June 12th - Octo still listed for a Summer 2018 release and for a good reason as Nogami himself in Splatoon Championships reveals that it will launch tomorrow in a 40 second trailer. He later showed the start of the game on Treehouse: Live following day, just hours before it launched.

Side Order

Splatoon 3 Direct on August 10th 2022 - DLC announced for the first time, "Large-Scale Paid DLC".

Nintendo Direct February 8th 2023 - Expansion Pass announced fully, Wave 1 Inkopolis detailed, Spring 2023 release date given. Side Order 40 second teaser trailer, "will launch in the future". Pre-orders available right after Direct.

Wave 1 was "Spring 2023" and on the eShop to be out by March 31st but it actually released on February 28th which wasn't even Spring at all.

Side Order is listed on the eShop to launch by 31st December 2024 but people are looking too much into this imo the 2024 is listed only because they haven't said the year, this also applies to Nintendo of Spain which just operates on that eShop listing.

Yeah, they could have said 2023 vague release but my theory is that Side Order is shadow drop in the next Direct, that's why they haven't mentioned it at all. And would it make any sense to release Wave 1 in February 2023 and Side Order in like Spring 2024? I don't think so. And I don't believe this would take them that much time for 2024 release.

Nogami shows up in the next Direct, full trailer and surprise it's out now, literally the perfect shadow drop release this is.

If it will not release after next Direct, they will just show more information, maybe do let's play with video Nogami before release and it shows up again in September (that's the latest release when I think Side Order is releasing).

I'm guilty of being too cautious with Beakons. Not about destroying enemy Beakons. I tunnel vision on them too hard, if anything. But about taking advantage of my own side's Beakons. If I'm respawning and there's a Beakon up, but we seem in relatively decent shape, I tend to pick a teammate as Superjump target or I just run the long way back, rather than risk using up the last charge of a Beakon that might be key to rescuing us from a bad wipe later.

Probably I just need to play a weapon with Squid Beakons on it for a bit to learn whether I'm vastly overestimating how difficult Beakons are to replace mid-fight.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say during the next direct they reveal it releases late 2023, and then it shadowdrops after EU championships :)

Also very possible, altough I think that basically the same trick for the second time would be old 😛 I also forgot to add that I don't think it's tied to new season(s) release like June 1st or September 1st.
