Sounds like a winner, I am excited! I really hope this gets a 4K physical release eventually. Day one buy if it does!

Also, a LOT of impressions will be April Fools jokes. I'm waiting until after the screening is over to judge.

Huh. I never realized till now since it’s a Nintendo film. I actually recognize some of the folks leaving impressions meaning perhaps I can take these impressions seriously for once lol

It's still in their best interest to invite media personalities that they think will generate buzz, like all major film screenings, but usually you can tell when the praise is more mild vs. enthusiastic, and this seems to be on the latter end.

Like I said in the other thread, I think diehard Nintendo nerds like us will probably enjoy it, if not so much the less tuned in audience members.

Well obviously.

Just not as random to me

Critics: "Mario movie has a shallow plot"

Gamers: "First time?"
Avatar happens to have a shallow plot as well and those movies are pretty well seen among critics for some reason. I honestly felt a drag during 2 but also Mario is going to clock in at 92 minutes sooo...

Shallow plot?

Wondered how they could manage a Mario story here. Perhaps they just didn’t.

The movie sounds like a good time.

As far as the narrative is concerned, the only thing I really want is for one or two good scenes that really underscore the relationship of the bros.

I gotta say, with some of those impressions @frog you may have the freaking win on your table in terms of RT heh

I think you can pretty much guess the story beats from the trailers. People will probably be more forgiving of a first movie having a simple plot, but less so for sequels. I've never seen an Illumination movie before, so I can't actually judge from their previous work.

Despicable Me is a fun movie with heart. The minions only really became a focus later.

Kit and Krysta haven’t shied away from calling out Nintendo since they struck out on their own, so this is encouraging.

Yeah, but RT are certainly going to get some licks in, reviews for first impressions are good but I don't think they're 70% or greater from RT good.

Edit: I think it'll get at least 60% from RT though

Y'all, the Atom review person on twitter is a meme account. Always make sure to read over their movie "reactions" twice before posting lol. Consistently filled with sexual innuendo and copy-paste material

So just not many impressions. Yeah, I think a RT above 70 will be hard here.

About on par with the Sonic movies sounds about right.
