I hope the delay means it’s been super polished and BGS has used the extra time to make it even better. I’m not an Xbox player but hope they nail it.

do they have anything between now and June that they can focus on? Redfall is May, right?
Yeah it's pretty much just Redfall, which admittedly had it's best showing in the last showcase. They do have the minecraft spinoff game but that's not exclusive to xbox. And they are done showing that off lol.

I think they need to and that's why it is getting a 2nd delay. Which is fine. The delay will not be remembered as long as the game is good.

I’m just… so ready for a big space game. This feels simultaneously hype and comfy. Definitely my next most anticipated game after Zelda. Show us some magic, Bethesda.

Thank goodness, just enough time for me to enjoy TotK and then dive into another giant game, can’t wait!!!!

This is what will finally get me to get a Series X, assuming the word of mouth is good. Hopefully it scratches that old Bethesda itch I haven't really felt since Skyrim/FO3.

This delay and forzas delay has me worried that ALL Microsoft has left for the year is Redfall, Starfall and Forza.

That's simply not enough considering all of those games were supposed to release H1 2023. So much for 2023 being jam packed with all those games releasing before E3.

Microsoft really never should've said that last year. Now they will look like clowns when they try to hype up their long term schedule.

I'll be parking on my newly acquired Series S until September it seems. Was nice to look through and pick up some old Xbox games on it.

oh nooooooo

sorry @Heron :'(
Oh. My. God. I saw the delay story and didn't even think about my game pass sub. I can't believe that two and a half years have passed.

Honestly, I think it's far more amazing that they haven't close the xbox live conversion loop than a huge game being delayed 2+ years.

The big question is whether they close it before Starfield. If not, I re-up for another 3 years no question and no harm done!

i think it'll still be up by then. it's probably one of those things that microsoft is aware of, but they're not being hurt by the exploit as much as closing it would hurt them.

In what universe is Starfield not enough? The game is going to be a juggernaut that’ll easily sell for the next 10+ years.

my perspective might be different, since i have all three modern consoles, but I feel like Microsoft's lineup this year is incredibly strong. Starfield alone is massive; it's already a GOTY contender. Forza Motorsport is also gonna be huge. HiFi Rush was incredible, and they've got Redfall coming soon. Xbox is killing it in 2023.

based on what we currently know of each of the big three's (exclusive) lineups, Xbox is clearly number one in 2023.

edit: i should note that this is in fact simply my opinion

0 big Xbox games came out in 2022 and they announced last e3 that starfield, Redfall, and forza would all be out before the end of June 2023. That leaves the rest of 2023 open for another of the other huge games they announced YEARS ago. But now Forza and Starfield aren't coming until September and later in the fall. What does that mean for the other games? Nothing else this year?

Starfield and forza being delayed to H2 pretty much guarantees Hellblade isn't out this year, same for Avowed.

TLDR, Starfield, Redfall and Forza being the only big Xbox games in 2023 is not enough to make up for no big games at all in 2022.

Anyone who has been around long enough should no to expect delays, but I agree that the "You will be playing this in the next 12 months" E3 presentation last June looks bad in hindsight. Microsoft set up expectations, and couldn't deliver for the two biggest games on their docket. In the end, the quality of the games are what matter the most, but Microsoft needs to do a better job with shoring up their pipeline (while reasonably managing expectations with employees of course). No games in 2022 and the big games in 2023 getting pushed back isn't a great look.

To be honest though, I don't see the lineup this year as not enough. Granted I say that as someone who owns all three consoles, but I think that Microsoft's first party is a lot stronger this year than 2021, which was great.

Still, can't wait to try them all.

Man, I keep waiting for the perfect time to finally sub to Game Pass and Microsoft keeps pushing it back! I can see why some people are concerned with Xbox's 2023 lineup with the delay of Starfield. It likely means that other big games people are expecting will not release this year. There are other factors that people may say that the current lineup is not enough.

-Microsoft is currently playing catch up. 2022 wasn't an amazing year of release for them and people have been waiting on the next big game from from their studios.
-Starfield was supposed to come out last year and people are already getting frustrated with Microsoft's pipeline and no shows of announced games.
-The Game Pass almost demands a constant release of games because people are theoretically paying each month for it. Someone who subscribed to multiple months or years Game Pass thinking they would be playing Starfield soon may be feel like their monthly payment is being wasted.

I think Starfield will be great but I think for many people, they were hoping Starfield was the start of Xbox finally hitting its stride and a delay might mean that stride is also delayed.

I feel like everyone is jumping to (negative) conclusion about this release date announcement.
I figured it was going to be slotted into a November date, so September leaves me a little optimistic about one more Xbox exclusive. I'm hoping Avowed or Hellblade 2 is a surprise November or December release. Bethesda and MachineGames also could surprise with their Indiana Jones game.
But, all things considered, Hi-Fi Rush, Redfall, Forza, and Starfield is a pretty nice lineup of exclusives for Xbox. Microsoft and Sony are never able to compete with Nintendo when it comes to 1st party exclusive consistency. Sony has had a few powerful strides , but at the end of the day, they both rely on a stack of AAA 3rd party games. Call of Duty, Star Wars, Resident Evil 4, Assassins Creed and the like will fill out the year. I don't have a PS5, and considering the 3rd party support Xbox gets over Switch -- I always have plenty to play!

The major advantage Sony seems to have over Microsoft is the 3rd party exclusives. Games like Final Fantasy 16, Baldur's Gate 3 (timed exclusive), and a small handful of Japanese games that won't come to Xbox -- it does hurt them in the "console battle".
Let's be real though, there are twice as many PS5s sold as Xbox Series'. Microsft has already lost the generation, and we will probably have to wait another 4-5 years before the crushing weight of their enormous 1st parties starts to eat into Sony's userbase.

Cant wait i hope its a mix of all the positives of all their games give me elements of Fallout,Morrowind,Oblivion and Skyrim

Well from what has been said by industry folks (I forget exactly who, maybe Andy Robinson?Grubb? I’ll have to dig up the quote) this probably is it for 2023, because most every other game announced (Avowed, Hellblade 2, Fable, Perfect Dark, etc., are all 2024/25 or even later. I could be misremembering but I think that’s roughly what they said they’ve heard.

For me, I think HFR, Forza, Redfall, and Starfield is a pretty solid year, especially if Starfield is GOTY level material and will dominate the landscape as much as it has the potential to. I really want it to be good.

I kind of hope that the character creation allows for Oblivion like potatoes again. Probably not with the detail of headgear, but one can hope.

Yeah, I'm fine with the delay if it means the game gets some extra polish. This needs to be good.

Bethesda depicts drugs in their worlds super well, I think. I think it’s neat to, say, chat with someone in Morrowind and then find a skooma pipe tucked under their bed a moment later! There is a commonplace nature to them that makes them feel realized I think.

I expect excellent drug names if nothing else, their record is unblemished there. Moon Sugar. Bugsmoke. Psycho. Jet. Smooch. SKOOMA. The list goes on

Feels weird, but I need to see the physical box art to actually be excited for a BGS release. I even bought Fallout 76 physical.

Hell yeah, space drugs
Give me that skooma from the moon

Hopefully we can craft it and then sell it to shady vendors/buyers

Maybe you can smuggle drugs between planets, bribing customs agents and avoiding space cops!

Nobody makes games like Bethesda Game Studios. Bugs, memes, delays--I don't even care, haha. The scope of each game is incredible. There aren't any other games out there that give me quite the same feeling as Fallout and Elder Scrolls. And now they're taking all of that to space? Consider me absolutely hyped for this Starfield Direct.

If you would've told me 2 years ago that I would be more excited by a Bethesda role-playing game than the next mainline FF, not sure if I would've believed you.

Not sure if I'm going to buy the game day one but I definitely will buy the controller and seagate hard drive. Those look lovely! Hope the Euro price isn't too high.

easy for me to believe. Starfield looks even better than I expected

Starfield looks like the promise No Man's Sky made, fulfilled. It all looks so lovely. And I know we got carefully selected footage but I'm happy to see it's not very janky.

It's amazing how quickly it went from "amazing" to "pass" for some people just because of 30fps on console.

it's the usual tbh, game looks ambitious AF and the level of simulation that underpins Bethesda's games makes 30fps understandable. I'd rather have BGS continue to make ambitious games that push the boat rather than them scaling back on ambition and simulation to hit 60fps. They simply can't do a quick resolution drop as I've seen people on other forums suggest to hit 60fps.

Their games are CPU limited because of the sheer amount of simulation and processing that they need to do every frame.

People keep bringing up "well it's CPU limited so they can't just drop the resolution to make it 60fps" like the people suggesting that drop wouldn't also be pushing for dropping literally any other option that would help the CPU to hit 60fps. Like I'm sorry, don't treat me like an idiot. I know what it means to be CPU limited. And they could absolutely do something about it. They could even try to hit 40fps for those with 120hz TVs, which is a growing segment. I feel like that's well within their abilities. And even beyond that, there should be an uncapped mode for whenever the next console comes out but I guess assuming they wouldn't just try to force people to rebuy it for a decade for slight improvements is too far.

They made a game with a lot of shooting, with a lot of moving in 3d space. That will not feel good to me at 30fps, full stop. Sorry, that's how it is. It does not feel good to me in Destiny (and now that game is 60fps), it does not feel good to me using the bow in TotK, it doesn't feel good to me. And if you're on an OLED TV it looks even worse because of the faster pixel response rate.

The ONLY reason I'm okay with this is that I have gamepass so I don't have to pay anything extra for it. But even then I'm still expecting it to release with drops under 30 and large bugs that'll get handwaved and I'll just have it installed waiting to be played whenever it's actually something resembling stable.

The other big issue I'm seeing is they had zero alien humanoids or other creatures to deal with. It's just all people. I need that to change real fast.

yes, they can likely do something about the CPU bottleneck - but the question for the developer is what they are willing to sacrifice from their overall vision of the game. If they could have had a 40 fps mode in for day one I suspect they would have - but it may simply be an issue that they could hit 40fps in the open world but struggle with it in the larger settlements and didn't want the variability.

I get that for a lot of people 30fps doesn't feel good for a shooter, especially if there are no FOV options as console FOV's can be pretty restrictive at times.

I don’t know if anyone specifically quoted you or anything, but there are a lot of comments about this cap from people that genuinely do not understand what CPU limited means. Lots of questions like why not just drop resolution to achieve 60 FPS and just that, no mention of CPU changes or that being a potential limiting factor. So don’t take it as a personal attack if someone hasn’t quoted you specifically. I also think when someone is saying the game is CPU limited, the full statement would actually be that the developers can’t find ways of reducing CPU load without compromising their vision of the game. So essentially they are disagreeing with you that there are things that can be cut down to hit a stable 40 FPS/60 FPS. Seeing what is going on so far with this game and knowing what happens in Bethesda open world games in general, I’d personally give them the benefit of the doubt that they tried exploring FPS options and are going with what is most feasible here.

Nah, this is the online gaming community. There's no room for that here. It's either lazy devs or the game is rushed.

That was/is the one thing I have been wanting to see, hopefully they have some new humanoid aliens that they are holding back.

Wasn't expecting anything since I didn't care about the game until the Direct.

It looks incredible. I'm really not a fan of Bethesda Games in general: they may be great but I just couldn't get into it. But Starfield presentation really was something. The amount of things you can do seems insane. The liberty it seems to offer hyped me in a way I wouldn't even expect. Can't wait to see a bit more, and I hope my computer will handle it (but it should be fine)

This really looked impressive. Definitely excited about trying this game out in September! My main concern didn’t actually take root in the footage, but in the company.

Love Bethesda games generally, but in the last decade they’ve put out Fallout 4 (which I thought was just OK), Fallout 76 (which I thought was bad), Elder Scrolls: Blades (bad!) and probably seven versions of Skyrim. For me it’s more than fair to say my memories of having an amazing time with a Bethesda game are now more than a decade old.

Anyway compliment sandwich time: again, the footage on its own merits looked fucking cool. The spaceship building and all of the associated crew /mission elements especially blew my mind. I played Skyrim for well over 100 hours without ever finishing the story. I could see myself spending over 100 hours being a space trucker in Starfield.

Game looks absolutely insane, and if they stick the landing it'll be one of the games of the generation. It all comes down to writing and story-telling for me though. Hopefully the main and side missions are good.

LOVE the UI though, and the whole retro/cool aesthetic.
