I'm not expecting it either, but

While I'm not a massive conspiracy theorist, Nate did like a reply tweet about the Splatoon 3 paid DLC, which makes the chance a tad higher for me

Maybe he is just very hyped about the possibility of Pearlina wedding amiibos, like me 🤔

I think there's a decent chance we'll see season 3 tomorrow. February is a tad shorter than November, so it would be 20 days before the launch of season. For season 2 it was a 16 days gap between reveal and launch.

4 days difference is not a lot

I think it's practically guaranteed. They don't tend to do reveals for a few weeks after a direct, there's very little reason not to include it here.

Hope we get some new music this time! And it would be cool to finally see the pyramid stage they teased in the Splatoon Direct

It sucks when I dislike all the options on a Splatfest. :/

I do not like chocolate, so I will pick white, since - I think - it will be the less popular among the options.

Here's my bingo card for next season!

Not all of them equally realistic, but most are based on datamines and/or promised features.

I played a lot of Splatoon the last couple of days (it was a 3 day weekend), like A LOT.

I was really surprised by the amount of errors (communication, disconnects at the beginning and mid-match, lobby's one or more players disconnected) happening again after a few months of relatively smooth sailing.

Anyway, I've using the Aerospray almost exclusively to farm, trying to play stealthy because of the short range and awful accuracy, and holy guacamole! I've been wrecked by Splatanas (mostly Stamper users) like no other weapon ever has. I never get mad/angry at the game (I do get frustrated sometimes, tho) but I almost did last weekend.

I'm always amazed by Lucy's videos and techniques, and I know a good player with a Stamper is dangerous, but the amount of Splatanas was so big/common and they all seem to have the upper hand, even against weapons with longer ranges. Is the weapon just too good? OP? How do you counter it? The experience really made me miss Splatoon 2's Squelcher :(

Basically, if you hold the R (sub weapon) button, and then go into swim form, you will be swimming at full speed instantly. This lets you do super quick, unpredictable movements that are way less committal than squid roll and help your movement loads.

In this clip you see me utilize it twice. Once behind the pillow/barrier obstacle, and once right before fighting the last 2 players. See how I plop out of the ink, and I instantly start moving in the other direction. It's basically like a little wavedash if used right.

If you'd like to learn it, I recommend messing around with it in the lobby and then bringing it into Salmon Run. Pick up an egg, and instantly sub strafe back in the direction of the basket instead of Squid Rolling. That's how I learned it! (albeit in Splatoon 2, before squid rolls)

Thanks! <3
I always confuse this with squid dashing :p

Easily the best way to use zipcaster :)

I tried the Stamper a few times after my encounters with them. I can't use this special at all (._. )

I think you want to use cover to get closer since the straight trajectory of the projectile makes it hard to hit people who are hiding. They also have reasonable downtime, the weapon can be quite ink hungry. Once you get close enough, rush them while dodging as much as possible as they'll have to hit multiple committal shots to kill you.

It's a very high skill floor weapon :p you need a lot of practice with both the main weapon and the special to make them work at a decent level, but once you get it you REALLY get it.

I prefer to use zipcaster as either a distraction tool, or as in the clip above: hit them once and then slam into them for a huge burst of damage

I'm honestly not expecting to hear about the Large Scale Paid DLC Expansion ™️ yet. It feels a bit too soon, unless they plan to do multiple waves of it.
I think we will see it. They first showed Octo Expansion in March and it release late June. Could see the same here if it's June/July release.

Thanks for the advice.
I have trouble with it cause its range is good, it kills in two hits (also, the charge is very fast) and the reach of its sub. Once I'm done with the Aerospray, I'll probably start practicing with the Stamper.

It can kill very quickly if you get caught out, but if you can get close to it without getting hurt too bad while staying outside of its melee range you're golden

"A powerful rotation on Hydroplant! Perfect time to push ranks and EVP 999!" says the YouTube Salmon Run guru. I'm now more convinced than ever the Heat meter is a fraud.

Two high skill ceiling weapons - half the rotation! and only one self-sufficent shooter across the whole set - is a freelance disaster in theory in practice.

As usual, thanks again! :)

I actually got to +400 for the first time on Hydroplant last night while playing with random people :p
The weapon synergy was great, IMO. Stamper is fantastic for SR and most players were very good and knew each weapon's strength.
If it were a weekend, I would have tried to aim for higher rankings, but I don't see myself ever getting to 999 on any stage (only once I did it on Splatoon 2).

It's also significantly easier in 2, since you start the top rank at 400 instead of 40. And max rank battles start at the whole lobby being around 600 instead of 870 in 3.

I strongly dislike how much more grindy it is in 3 to get to the hardest difficulties.

Maybe my region is just hopeless at Salmon Run.

I got into a very glitchy shift the other day.

Besides the Maw behavior, can you notice anything weird? Click here for a clue!

Completely agree. I hate how how grindy 3 is/feels.

We should play some time! :D

Splatanas are funny to me since I've decided to become a quick respawn abuser. Nothing diminishes the threat of those weapons when you can get back in the fight faster than they can.

Ironically enough Splatanas are hard for me even though as a ranged blaster, they should be relatively easier to understand, but it's those minute details that keeps messing me up because my brain goes "Alright now to quickly retreat because I can't fire...wait I'm a Splatana...and now I'm dead.

So...

Side Order continues the tradition of Off the Hook having incredibly interesting lore. I need to see every individual frame NOW.

So because I'm a sucker for Splatoon lore, here's an image of some of the non Off the Hook pictures in that teaser

Is it Agent 8? Are we going to continue her story? Oh please please please.

I think the way it was presented will turn people off a bit. The Splatoon 1 stuff is really neat, but it's obviously just the appetizer before the big campaign. Nintendo portrayed it as equal though, and as a result I think people might devalue the pass a little bit.

Definitely a neat addition regardless though.

my theory on the single player is that it will use multiple ink colors. the player has some sort of color changer on their waste and obviously the world is devoid of color

Surely there is more to it than that though. Is it really just going to be the Inkopolis hub, but with everything functionally the exact same. When they first started showing it, I had thought it was going to feature some single player levels from original, which would be cool, but I guess not.

If it really is just a different hub that you can visit, then I agree that was a weird way to announce the expansion pass.

They said only two waves in this expansion pass, right? I was convinced it was four because of the four colors in all the logo artwork.

The 12/31/2024 estimated release date for Wave 2 is an, uh interesting choice. Feels like a typo

So here's everything a friend and I have gleaned from Side Order.

  • first, the name. Side Order. Very clever.
  • two Off the Hook songs are about color: Color Pulse and Acid Hues
  • the player has some sort of multicolored device on their waistband (image below) that we think is a color switcher
  • accordingly, we believe the levels will have multiple ink colors. maybe four because of the expansion pass logo?
  • lastly, Pearl is wearing a space jacket of some sort. with the elevator I think we're going back to space

edit: also, I just realized their tentacles are brown, like a bunch of paint colors mixed together
