Which instrument would you play?

Only problem about having good snipe areas on Mincemeat is that you have about 2 ways to approach those snipe areas, and both are extremely predictable and easy to see coming, meaning those buckets and blasters don't actually have a way to get under that ledge safely and quickly, turning the game into a stalematey sniper/crab tank heaven

EDIT: a good fix for this would be to simply add sponges in these spots. The drop on the right is a powerful aggressive approach you can take, but you're immediately stuck down there with no way back. Adding the sponge would make it a lower risk approach, which is something the map desperately needs.

Eh, Rainmaker now having two checkpoints, a reduction of clams required to form the big one in Clam Blitz, Egg Throwing in Salmon Run, changing the primary ability of clothing, removing Ink Armor, there's actually quite a lot of changes to the game that I'd consider improvements over Splatoon 2. Currently the worst problem is the maps and hopefully they make some changes there. Like I'd still prefer the current special(crab) meta over the current Splatoon 2 meta.

They made some improvements to the actual gameplay modes, yeah, nobody is gonna disagree there, but I was thinking separately about how they're actually implemented in the matchmaking, UI side of things, which is just a bunch of poor decisions piled on each other.

Just having a hidden skill rank variable that sorts you to players around your level works so much better and causes far fewer issues compared to the weird complicated for the sake of complications nonsense they've put in 3.

What a great analysis. I wish I was as analytical as most of you are.

Still hate the map forever, tho :p

Here's another great analysis by this analytical Famiboards Splatoon 3 regular: Shit sucks now!

First time dipping back into ranked after weeks of leisury Salmon Run and had the worst string of games since entering the X queue. Between Squiffer teammates getting me matched against E-liters, Triple Inkstrikes being everywhere and the still omnipresent Juniors spamming Torpedoes, it's hard times for a Hydra.

so the real gamers probably know: does open use glicko 2, like, at all? a friend of mine insists it's completely random (or random + network connectivity)

Which is fine until you have to take in to account that's it's basically encouraged smurfing (i.e. if you want to you can stay at C rank even if you're a S+50 tier player.

Tbh the changes to the ranking system are among the biggest of fuckups they made going in to 3. X rank shouldn't be separate. It shouldn't be impossible to rank down except when seasons change. It shouldn't be possible to functionally choose to stay at a rank below your skill level.

It's hard to come up with a change they did that wasn't terrible. Being able to pick 2 different modes (3 if you're at X rank) is good, I guess, though like mentioned above, they're starting to get spread too thin now and matchmaking suffers for it, which is most notable in X rank outright not being able to find games at times.
That doesn't happen though? As far as we can tell since matchmaking is done server-side, the game doesn't seem to care about rank much or at all. That's why people in A can regularly run into people with S+ badges. They knew that smurfing could be a problem, adjusted the system to prevent it from happening, and added all the new items and progression systems to discourage players from using multiple accounts.
so the real gamers probably know: does open use glicko 2, like, at all? a friend of mine insists it's completely random (or random + network connectivity)
It's impossible for us to know since it's all server-side. It's probably less strict in favor of faster and better connections. Then there's the fact that people play either worse on average because it's the best place to try to learn new weapons and grind gear or they're way better than average because they're playing as a coordinated team. That results in much swingier matches than in other modes where players are relatively more serious and evenly matched.

so the real gamers probably know: does open use glicko 2, like, at all? a friend of mine insists it's completely random (or random + network connectivity)
As far as I've heard from people who know their stuff, it does, but it's one of multiple factors. Some factors are glicko2 power, rank letter, how many friends you queue with, ping and weapon range. It tries to find a compromise, so often it isn't accurate in all categories.

Really wish matchmaking would place weapon balance first over anything else. Or, why the fuck did I get matched against a 4K, a Heavy Splattling, a Jet Squelcher, and a tentaek spattershot while I get 3 Splattershot Jr's and me: a Ranged Blaster!?! What part of that setup is in any way shape or form fair? Someone please explain to me how the fuck I'm supposed to get anywhere near the basket when my entire team can get sniped by everyone else?

I mean, if the argument is that it doesn't happen, I don't understand how the rank up battle series work, because when you're doing one, they're very clearly slotting you in to a different playerpool tier and that makes very little sense if they were actually mostly doing the matchmaking based on a glicko or similar system. Obviously they could do it by adding a fixed number to your hidden number, but that's so absurdly opaque when there's a much more apparent and obvious explanation given right to us.

(It would also be a terrible implementation to add an arbitrary number to your hidden rank because that would paradoxically mean the people who were doing the best in that lower rank would have the hardest time ranking up, so I don't think that would be the actual implementation if they did do something like that)

What they most likely do for rank-up battles is bump up your power ranking by a set amount that is in line with the normal matchmaking rules, so that the average player level in those matches is at the upper limit of what you would otherwise encounter normally. So if they shoot for +/- 50 points between players in a match they'd add 50 points to your power while you're attempting rank-up battles.

I beat Splatoon 3.

fnleotxauae5fs_ixfws.jpg

Since there's not the goal of reaching Rank X in all four modes anymore, collecting every badge is practically and theoretically unattainable for me and getting to 400 MAX HAZARD in Salmon Run won't happen either as long as progress resets back to 40 each rotation, I will consider this the game's end state. Being the fastest heaviest armored robot-Hydra roaming the Splatlands has been my dream since I first laid eyes on this mix of gear.

Meant to farm the last missing chunks of Run Speed Up during Splatfest, but then today's Shell-Out Machine pull dropped the ability jackpot in my lap.

I know that the matchmaking is fucked up enough that out of the 500+ matches I've played as Ranged Blaster this season, the amount of times I've had any backliners (let alone a 4k or a Heavily Splattling) has been 3, and those cases it was only because I finally found a friend to play with me to test a theory. And out of the 500+ matches I've had at least 150+ matches where I have no backliner and the enemy team has a 4k and a Heavy. It's gotten to the point where I cannot play my main anymore because the game will always put me in a team of shortranged weapons vs backliners with great range and easy shots. The last ten games was me with a team of 3 aerosprays where the matchmaking would force me to pair with them versus a series of backliners with middleranged shooters that would always take them out immediately, if the 3 aerosprays didn't make sure to suicide themselves half the match for fun.

It's frustrating because when I win, it never feels like it's due to a good team and it's more due to the fact that the enemy backliners aren't doing a good job. Literally the only times I get a backliner is if I give up and go with Splash-o-Matic in which case I'll get any backliner weapon. I just don't get Splatoon's ranked matchmaking that is X because it seems to think my Ranged blaster is at equal or higher level than every other backliner. I can assure you. It's not.

And like, I hate relying on that weapons because it feels like I'm saying "this is the only good weapon in the game" when it's not even it's features that I'm using for, it's "I literally cannot get a good backliner unless I choose this specific weapon".

I'm confused. Is this X Rank? Because Open and Series clownery like "Who would win in a fight? All ranged or all melee?" reminiscent of early day MMA shouldn't happen in X Battles. @Lucyfer posted the way the weapon-based matchmaking at X Rank sorts things earlier in the thread:

Ranged Blaster isn't matched up against the full-fledged backliners like Splatlings or Chargers but instead falls in the unorthodox semi-anchor bucket with Explosher, Bloblobber and other, well, buckets. So if there is an E-Liter on the enemy team, your Ranged Blaster is not at fault.

I’m in S rank. I haven’t yet unlocked X rank yet. So I’m in series or open for now which can wildly vary in matchups.

Oh. Yeah. Open and Series doesn't give a crap about balancing ranges across teams. The only way to guarantee you're put on a team with a backliner is to play a backliner yourself. Instant double or triple or quadruple backliner comp.

I just didn't know what you meant with "Splatoon's ranked matchmaking that is X".

Sorry. Was typing on my phone. Autocorrect has a habit of removing the word not from my sentences.

Feel like I've run into quite a few blowouts in Turf War these past few days. I'm talking high 60s% for one side.

Have you all decided what are you voting for? :p

What have been y'all's favorite weapons lately? I'm still on the chainsaw grind, but I'm also considering picking Range Blaster back up. I think it has a lot of potential and could be quite strong if Splash is removed from the picture.
Still Splattershot Pro and Forge Splattershot Pro (they have my favorite specials). I've been using the Aerospray RG almost exclusively since December cause I'm farming coins, tho.

I'm all the way back in the Squiffer zone despite my better judgment. It's better in some modes than others (e.g. Clams makes me wish I were still using scope...)

I'm trying to vibe with the Heavy Splatling. But despite it being my first Splatling way back when and being such a basic weapon, I'm throwing. Having gotten used to the Hydra's range is throwing me off everytime I try to engage.

"Haha, you entered my sight, you fool! Prepare to be erased! ... ... ... Ooops. None of my shots reached them. And now they're warned and in cover."

Repeat ad infinitum.

My second has become the Custom Spalttershot Jr., it's a great support and special combo that can help defend and push. I've also been trying out Zink Mini Splattling as a hilariously aggressive Heavy. Being able to pop that Bubbler with a weapon that can fight well in it makes up for the fact that I usually have like a 0-1/9 K/D ratio.

torpedoes have gotten completely insufferable btw

I think they're probably a nice irritant to chargers though, annoying as they may be they're probably alright for balance

I honestly don't like them, for one reason:

They make the game that much more shooter favored. Torpedoes screw over just about everything, but they're just a minor nuisance to shooters.

There's enough in the game that favors shooters already!

aw man I never play shooters so I didn't think of that angle

they just alleviate my charger guilt somewhat

My game just got softlocked on the loading screen. The little animation on the bottom right played but it didn't let me load into the match.

So I had to restart the game...

10 minute ban. Thank you Nintendo.

Tentatek has easily become my most played weapon since this season started, but I've also played a lot of Nova and Forge. Not playing as much lately because I'm focusing on Fire Emblem, but these past couple weeks have been mostly Sloshing Machine and E-liter.

Oh, hey, a nice relaxing Salmon Run shift on Hydroplant and synergistic weapons. This will be--- AAAAH WHO MADE TONIGHT GLOWFLY CENTRAL.

Five of them across a 1200 points rotation. Two of them back to back drop me down a rank. But because the splat gods love irony, the wave that sends me back up to where I started is the final Glowfly round.

And I only now saw there is a statue in the Grizzco shop for 100 Gold. What the fuck. Who the fuck do they expect to buy this.

I was in a Clam Blitz match that was pretty fun and exciting, I'd love to hear thoughts on it.

R3NM-MH2V-YKU2-6B2B

I think it was so valuable because I both made mistakes and deliberately exploited the mistakes of others. With some goid plays on both sides, I think it was probably relatively entertaining for a low-level match. It'll probably seem like an episode of the Rugrats to many of you but hey, that's entertaining too, right?

Without exception, every single goddamned time I try to play this game for the past two weeks, instant disconnect error. It's been 4 months. How the fuck have they not only NOT fixed the internet issues, but also invented entirely new ones What the fuck are they doing at their studio?

The Tricolor stage for Undertow Spillway was really fun, so I'm hoping it does the same for Mincemeat Metalworks.

I've been having a lot of fun with the Aerospray and I know its job is to paint, paint, paint, but I feel like a small buff to 25 damage for each shot would be great considering you need to be really close to splat and the accuracy isn't good.

Ran out of coin boosting food items.
The quest for the gold Rockenberg badge got that much more expensive!

I was really surprised by how easy last night shifts on Spawning Grounds were. The random players were mostly good, we cleared 90% of the shifts and the weapon synergy worked great. I finally got a gold scale, I couldn't remember the last time I got one.

I'm still amazed at how I havnt gelled with the 3 weapons I played the most in Splatoon 2. Going from S2 to S3, I went from .52 Gal to Tentatek (thanks Ink Strike patch), Heavy Splattling to Hydra, and Jet Squelcher to Custom Jr. (Lol...T_T).

I am liking Jet and .96 more these days but still feel like they need a bit more help.

...are you really calling Nintendo anticonsumer for your internet being shit??

Is this a real tweet you made??
It's not my fucking internet, I've checked in every possible way. It's literally Nintendo fucking up the already garbage netcode of the game even more. Ever since the last update, literally every day, the first match of SR loads for 20 seconds and then immediately disconnects as soon as the map loads

...I don't think you can deny that it's something with your internet when it works fine for 99.9% of people

I guess everyone else in the thread is just lying about their experience, then? Because no, that's happening literally to a small minority of people, including you. I've gotten literally 3 disconnects in a couple hundred hours of playtime, and two of them were me knocking out the router with my foot.

If you want help troubleshooting what could be happening, I'm more than willing to lend a hand, as is probably anyone in here. But yelling at Nintendo to go fix your home internet is neither gonna make you able to play, nor make anyone here more friendly.

Yeah, I got caught out in my lies, the past fifty turf wars, fifty anarchy battles, and fifty X rank battles, as shown on my splatnet results having had apparently one disconnect of any player between them is all part of an elaborate scheme on my part to convince me the Splatoon service is stable when it secretly isn't for anyone but me and everyone I've played with.
