I'm sorry I was mean to Chill Season 2022

It has Flounder Heights and Snipewriter 5H

And playing Snipewriter 5H on Flounder Heights is among the most fun experiences I've had in Splatoon

Chill Season 2022 is perfect

Splatoon 3 is the worst game ever made

I was literally just about to espouse how fun Flounder Heights Tower Control is

I really like Clam Blitz and Turf War on it too

This looks ... solid overall? Some quibbles aside, it should produce functional or fair-ish team compositions more often than not.

Also leads to some interesting meta considerations, though. For example, I should never pick Slosher for Tower Control since it means good odds of putting a Blaster on the other side. Splattershot Pro, with all its fault, is still one of the top choices compared to what other weapons could be in its place. And Heavy and Hydra Splatling shoot up several tiers in viability knowing they'll never have to go up against an Eliter or Splat Charger without being able to count on a Eliter or Splat Charger teammate themselves.

Yup, there's definitely some meta here. Tetras completely dunk on most other frontlines, while things like inkbrush hard struggle against almost everything else in its tier

I'm gonna need some serious warmup for X clam but I'm not the only one.
The plays I witnessed...
10s spamming this way to someone having the ball staying in our base, people not making a ball when there's 10s left, blocking the team in their base to have mine still in ours, someone missing the basket while I crabbed the whole team, he had no excuse 🥲
But it's clam blitz, other modes are fine, better than current s+ at least.

I don't know if this has been posted before (if so I missed it) or if anyone care, but while looking at the text files there will be 3 badges for X Rank:

  • One if you are in the top 10
  • One if you are in the top 500
  • One if you are in the top 3000

There is only the text for it, no icons.

Yep, never getting any of those unless the player base craters, lol.

It's not your teammates who let you down here. They seem to have played well. A Mini-Splatling, Tri-Stringer and Squiffer just were never going to outpaint a Squeezer, Junior and Aerospray even if they outsplatted them by a good margin like the screenshot shows. 'Twas matchmaking that lowered you into your grave.
I know, I was just making fun of the situation :p (and I love that Miiverse pic/meme)

Does this game actually just cancel matchmaking for all involved when 1 player presses minus? I don't remember getting the "One or more player disconnected" message before 2.0
It's been so common that I feel they just replaced the error text/string to say "One or more..." rather than "A communication error occurred" (instead of actually fixing the issue :p)

To the asshole who decided to be in my game and decided to troll the past fucking hour by repeatedly moving the rainmaker to the opponents targets then refusing to fight otherwise. FUCK YOU

How does matchmaking work? For an entire hour I lost every battle because I kept being forced to pair with this one asshole who did the above. It's incredibly frustrating. I've reported him but I don't know the game guess I just really liked this player because they repeatedly paired me with him for the entire hour.

It's just frustrating. I play an average of 3-4 hours a day and I'm only on level 4 for the catalogue. I have to earn 300-500 points a match (at best) so it takes a glacially long time for me to level up the catalogue. I'm even worse in Turf War because I earn even less on account of the fact that the Blaster is not meant for it. How do we lower our rankings again? I don't want to go back to what I had to do for the first one and spend 6-8 hours a day playing the game to level up at the same rate as everyone else playing 1-2 hours.
I reported (not blocked) someone a few weeks ago and the game hasn't put us in the same lobby since then (when it used to do it constantly). Blocking them from the Switch UI doesn't work? In S2, unless there were absolutely no other players, you wouldn't be paired with blocked users.

Sorry if this is a silly question, but... mirror how? Like category vs category? Weapons in blue vs weapons in blue? Orange vs orange?

I didn't block him, just reported. I'll block him from my switch. Hopefully it doesn't happen again.

For every player on your team with a weapon from a certain category, the enemy team will also have a weapon from the same category. If your team has 2 frontlines, a short range roller/brella/splatana and a long range charger, the enemy team will have the same categories

Thank you!

Really cool and impressive video, btw. Is there a weapon you're not good with? :p

After the stage designer, fire reassign whoever decided to give the Junior Torpedo. Could never step one second out of cover thanks to all the Eliters, now can't stay one second behind cover thanks to Juniors. And double Wave Breaker on zone are a nightmare, too.

What are the current Splattershot faults in your opinion?

The main thing is that the Squeezer does everything the Pro can much better except preserve your hand health. So you feel second-rate playing the Splattershot by default.

Hot take: the game would be more generally enjoyable if Splattershot, Splash-o-matic, Gal .52 and maybe even Splattershot Jr were removed from the game. These weapons are too versatile, thus being the best option in many situations and pushing out many interesting weapon types.

Yours sincerely,

someone who just had a fire match in a pod with none of those weapons

Doesn't help that these weapons have some of the best kits in the game too

The proliferation of Triple Inkstrike due to the new Tentatek Splattershot has really driven home for me how weak the special is. I knew it from the side of the user, but now on the receiving end I had a few matches today where the enemy team had two Triple Inkstrike weapons but even with coordinated strikes the blasts are so easy to avoid and the displacement effect lasts such a small amount of time.

I think it and Ink Vac would be helped tremendously by shorter telegraphing but that might feel cheap to the defender. Maybe bigger blasts across the board?

100%. I had fun with Tentatek until I realized I rarely saw solid benefits from the special.

Having thought about it a bit, the big downside is how the Special snares the user for pretty much the same length of time as whoever they target with their strikes is forced into evasive maneuvers. With specials like the Killer Wail or Missiles, the user can participate in the fight and personally take advantage of the disarray caused in the enemy ranks. A team with a Triple Inkstrike user is fighting 3v4 for the duration of the special. It's a special that displaces the user. Unless the user pushes back at least two enemies, it's a wash or even a net negative for their side.

Yeah, it seems like an exaggeration, but playing back those fights where the enemy tream tried to push with dual Triple Inkstrikes, the specials really had next to no impact on the outcome.

I think my problem with this meta is honestly just that specials are too strong at locking you out, and not strong enough at getting you back in. This makes it so losing control once leads to losing the game. Plus the fact everyone runs multiple burst bomb weapons, missiles, and you just get spammed to hell

This was always my concern with the whole "make everything overpowered" philosophy that become the vogue in response to 2. Just because you make them equally good on paper doesn't mean that they're equally good in practice in all the different scenarios they'll be used in. That's a lot less likely to be an issue if specials are weaker by default and more dependent on the individual player's role to maximize their effect.

"Hey look, a Flyfish. I should just ignore it while I deliver my egg and just refuse to go after it so it can keep raining hellfire upon us for the entire round"

Why is EVERYONE in Salmon Run like this. I had my entire team swim right past one. Apparently, running away to shoot at that Scrapper over there is more important

Because we all suck at getting the bomb in the basket, and we're all just secretly hoping someone else more competent deals with it

EDIT: There's a good term for this

So the key to salmon run in freelance is to play in the evening 🕵️‍♂️
We won 6 eggsecutive games in a row, there even was a glowflies round!
I'm still not realizing

Also, have people's opinions on X rank changed yet now that it's been a small week?

I remember @Lucyfer stating that it would just be a big grind with those who spend the most time ending up on top, but I'm not sure myself yet. It feels like X-rank from 2, but you only get your score after finishing a series.

Btw match making in X is way quicker than everything else, like 30-40s on average, whereas ranked is 70-80s average!

I'm of the opinion it's too harsh towards anyone who can't consistently win series and loses them occasionally. I see people thriving with powers of 2800+, and then others dropping -100 over and over, no inbetween

Gotta say I don't know what they were thinking with dropping peoples' Anarchy ranks with the patch, there some players in the B- to B+ range who are way too good for the tier and it makes playing Series miserable

Everybodies ranks dropped by ~the same amount, so if that's the case, they'll be out of the rank soon enough.

It was much better the old way in 2 though where you'd drop ranks immediately if you accidentally got out of your skill level, and would never lose anything otherwise.

I main a squiffer, and generally speaking it's not hard to hit 700+ points of turf while still maintaining a good splat ratio in turf war. Going under 500 points is dreadful.

But most maps aren't Mahi, either, so I still can't really pass full judgement lol.

they're on mahi with a ridiculously high performing shooter, I'd say they deserve a pass

what they don't deserve a pass for is not standing on the high ground and killing everyone who tries to pass, but I have a feeling the shooter edged them out

rainmaker remains the fastest mode in open

I feel like I've seen matches end in less than 30 seconds

I don't enjoy the new Salmon Run map all that much. Might even enjoy Spawning Grounds more.
Marooner's Bay was always the worst map in 2 and nothing has changed. I lost 12 straight in VP due to constantly missing quota by 1 or 2 eggs, and only finally won when someone disconnected and made the quotas 10x easier to reach despite the reduction in manpower.
