we've been in denial for months LOOOOLIs that before or after denial?
per the podcast, postponing development indefinitely isn't uncommon when something is early enough alongWhat about the supposed ‘Next Switch’ exclusives that was rumoured were knocking about, devs are now supposed to keep them back another 2 years?
I mean, this would be quite a bit like what the Switch was...8nm PS4 level SoC in 2025 when PS6 and XSX2 will release 3 years later is laughable.
Nintendo doesn't care about other companies specs. Besides, this console would have DLSS to cover some lost ground.Going from Late22/Early23 to Late24/Early25 is quite the jump.
If it's 2 years away, I honestly hope they cancel Drake and work on a new chip.

yep, this is the big thing. leaks got us interested far too early, and now it's (arguably long past) time to turn awayI just need to turn the Drake/Switch 2 part of my brain off for a full year. It’s gonna be tough because I have been excited about this thing since those 2021 reports, but it’s dead for now. I can’t keep it going for another 12 months (minimum)
Surely there's only so much they can ignoreNintendo doesn't care about other companies specs. Besides, this console would have DLSS to cover some lost ground.
What is the PS6 going to look like anyways? Aren't we getting close to a hardware ceiling?
no one talks about it because everyone has gone to the part where he speculates on a dateWoah slow down. Not gonna listen to this podcast, so gonna need somebody to get me up to speed. Weren't loads of people incredulous about the initial "cancelled" claim because the timelines didn't add up? What's the actual explanation that Nate gives which clicks it into place?
Yep I check this thread everyday but I don’t think I can do this for another year. Nikkei, Digital Foundry and now Nate seem to be leaning towards late 2024. We’re more than halfway through January- if a May 2023 release with Botw was coming we would’ve heard something concrete by now.yep, this is the big thing. leaks got us interested far too early, and now it's (arguably long past) time to turn away
we just have to forget about it. it's going to be tough for me
the impression they're giving is basically that they (meaning industry journalism overall) covered it too early, and the devkits were more standard early attempts/tinkeringWoah slow down. Joy-Con Battery Pack 2I'm not even halfway though the podcast yet, but I've been thinking about how Nintendo probably still has something hardware to release this year right?
It'll be 2 year since the OLED in October and this is the kind of pattern they seem to follow.
Not next-gen or successor of course, but whatever revision or new version that could help to reinforce sales and overall interest in the Switch.
Maybe some kind of "Switch Home" or "Switch TV" that isn't handheld, though it's been discussed and feels quite unlikely.
Or maybe some Joy Con/Pro Controller revisions as well.
Get ready for Switch Lite OLED, I hate to admit it feels more likely than ever lol
NoWe are buying Zelda OLED and you will like it.
most of the podcast is just speculating... but from what i get from the first 15 minutes, essentially their sources sad its scrapped in its current form.Woah slow down. a slightly-too-late-to-be-great drake is exactly in-line with Nintendo's strategy
see this is the sort of speculation I can get behindI'm not even halfway though the podcast yet, but I've been thinking about how Nintendo probably still has something hardware to release this year right?

Arguably long past is a good way to put it. There’s no hand wringing the bad news away now (which I had been doing too). I need to reset my mindset to what it was before I ever heard a Pro/2 leak. Not thinking about it, not expecting anythingyep, this is the big thing. leaks got us interested far too early, and now it's (arguably long past) time to turn away

totally. Nintendo isn't what made us feel bad about all this, premature leaks wereArguably long past is a good way to put it. I'm not sure if they'll take the time to release new games on Nintendo's platform through this year, they'll only re release old PS4/XBO era ports (which is fine by me) until the new platform comes, which depending on the success, they might not care anywayI feel bad for third party devs.
This is true, but for other reasons and to some degree, some of us would still be legitimately disappointed to see nothing announced and no sign of improved hardware nearly 6 years later.totally. Nintendo isn't what made us feel bad about all this, premature leaks were
I cant listen right now, but the problem with this is that there was an insistence that software was being developed and planned for launch late 22/early 23. Either a lot of what was purported by Nate was very wrong, or Nintendo completely pulled the rug out from under their partners by canning the hardware. The last time something like this happened(at least that we know about) was the SNES CD, which had pretty bad consequences.the impression they're giving is basically that they (meaning industry journalism overall) covered it too early, and the devkits were more standard early attempts/tinkering
since the OLED was probably planed / designed before the pandemic started (and all of the following problems with resoures, economic uncertainty, war in europe,...), so... losing a year in all of that does not sound tooo far of. like if they wanted to have it 2023 and just couldn't get it there.I'm not even halfway though the podcast yet, but I've been thinking about how Nintendo probably still has something hardware to release this year right?

they had to get the home console nintendo fans and the handheld nintendo fans on the same boat. now, that most have understood the concept, they have less of a need to explain it and have the focus on it.the discussion of the subtle change in the position of the switch is super interesting to me. in the beginning it was seen as "the home console you can take on the go" as intended, but now it's able to stand alone and is just The Switch with Nintendo games, mountains of indie games, and really old or smaller stuff
I'm curious if 2025 will represent an attempt to return to home console on the go USP or doubling down on the Nintendo machine angle, which is now much more viable on its own than it was in 2017
Yeah, this is some of the most obvious bullshit "leaks" I've seen in a while.I'm not buying that Drake itself was scrapped, due to the publicly available evidence to the contrary and it feels like by 2025 it makes no sense to use it. Not sure what to think at the moment.
there's definitely a tacit admission throughout this podcast that they covered it prematurely imoI love how they blame people on expecting too much while the expectations all mainly came from the "leaks".

but they seem to be implying things were very early along and that window was accepted as a tentative oneI cant listen right now, but the problem with this is that there was an insistence that software was being developed and planned for launch late 22/early 23. I'm in the same boat. I'm not gonna knee-jerk deny Nate's reporting (especially without hearing it first hand), but some things don't quite add up. To be frank, I've always been skeptical of the tech boosterism of the optimists, even when clearly backed by a lot of technical knowledge. But I've seen some compelling points made. For example, several people seemed confident that the Linux commits implied that the chip was in production, or soon to be. What's the explanation for that? I won't be totally convinced until I hear one.I'm not buying that Drake itself was scrapped, due to the publicly available evidence to the contrary and it feels like by 2025 it makes no sense to use it. Not sure what to think at the moment.
it makes perfect sense: nintendo is waiting for drake to become withered technologyI'm not buying that Drake itself was scrapped, due to the publicly available evidence to the contrary and it feels like by 2025 it makes no sense to use it. Not sure what to think at the moment.
a slight mention of drake, but not explicitly confirming or denying that that has anything to do with the canceled (or delayed?) revisionthere's definitely a tacit admission throughout this podcast that they covered it prematurely imo
I give it up for lost, here people fall into the same mistake as always.Hey, just a suggestion, maybe if people would treat the stuff from the podcast as what it is -> Speculation <- instead of a fact, the truth, confirmed and whatever, there won't be any hyperbolic reactions, including against those who reported on Drake stuff so far.
What do you say?
Yep pretty much, Nintendo seems to like being behind the curve as of recentlyit makes perfect sense: nintendo is waiting for drake to become withered technology
