StarTopic Splatoon 3 |ST| The Mammal with the Three Golden Eggs (Jackpot wins worlds!)

Which instrument would you play?

It was never wrong, reading data is just complicated. 1% of all players =/= 1% of active players. 1% of all players being in X in February 2018 means a much larger percentage of active players are in X because inactive players are going to be disproportionately grouped towards the lower ranks.

What this big run tells us is that not all that many casual players played it, which makes sense given that Big Run was not actually announced in-game before it started, something that Splatoon 3 is still terrible at. I doubt most casual or infrequent players even knew it existed at all or was scheduled for last weekend.

I believe the "X rank is top 1%" data WAS stated to be calculated on active players

And Big Run was announced in-game a week ahead of time, not to mention it being super hyped up and unmissable for anyone who uses social media in any way

So I went back to the patch notes and...

When the Big Run has ended, different decorations will be awarded to players based on the Big Run results. This will be calculated based on the highest number of Golden Eggs collected in a single work shift across the entire player base.

if the above is accurate, and the English translation not misleading, the Big Run stats are confusing in a whole new way.

It seems to just be vague wording. As far as we know (I believe from datamines too) it works exactly how we think

It's official. I am the worst Splatoon player in the world. a 0-50. A fucking 0-50. And to add insult to injury. My last game had 2 players on the opposite team drop out and we still fucking lost. It's just great. every match is 0 points. Every match is 0 points. I am playing at the same rate as people who have nearly completed their catalogue and I'm at level 9. Because I never win. it's just so frustrating! Even when I'm playing good I'll get matched by people who will actively play against the goal and actively sabatage the team! Is it because my win record is so low it assumes I have to be trolling and is matching with the like? Is that it?

EDIT: It's just awful! I want to quit after a single win and now the game isn't even letting me! I have to play 5-6 hours a day now to get a win even in Turf War. Like...is their any option for me to complete the Catalogue now? Do I must treat this as much 2nd job?

EDIT2: IS THIS A PRACTICAL JOKE!?! Last game no one on my team fucking moved! They just stayed on base and walked around very slowly!

I doubt most casual or infrequent players even knew it existed at all or was scheduled for last weekend. A splatfest is announced in-game a week ahead of time which means that anyone who plays the game within a week will know when it's happening in addition to everyone who learns about it via the internet, Switch news, etc.. If you just play Splatoon every now and then, Big Run basically just showed up all of a sudden. People in the plaza may have been talking about it beforehand but there are so many random memes constantly going on that odds are you won't even realize they're talking about an upcoming special event, let alone informed enough to look up when it's happening.

It's another reason why Splatoon badly needs an actual roadmap. It makes no sense that they didn't announce the date of Big Run in the season trailer.

Also I'd bet that when calculating the egg totals the game did not count players who played big run but did not complete a single run which would increase the totals a bit.
Big Run was announced in-game 1 week before it happened, failed runs still counted for Highest Scores, and
I've been thinking about it and it's indeed puzzling, especially with the full context of that quote:

"X Rank is an extremely challenging Ranked Battle experience targeting the best of the best players. Players who are S+10 and above in the current ranking system will be re-registered as X Rank. For reference, below is a breakdown of players across each rank (as of 2/20/2018):
tumblr_inline_p5k262bn7y1t4m0j9_540.png

※Calculated based on players that played Ranked Battle within the last week

※Because we rounded up from the hundredths decimal, the total may not be 100.0% exactly"

Being based on weekly ranked players should lead to a lot less casuals than the first edition of a rare event available to all players
... Also notice how the 2nd ※ is complete nonsense as no amount of rounding errors could explain the sum of all 6 numbers being 99.3%, 0.7% off.

I'm so sorry that's happening :(

Have you at least reported those people in the terminal?

I'd play with you to help you to even your ratio and get some catalogue experience, but I've got so much work this week and I will be out of town the next one, so I won't be able to play much.

I'm sure others here could help, there are plenty of really good players in this thread. Also, this catalogue will last 2.5 months, so it's very achievable.

Btw we have actual data for how many players Splatoon events can gather
22l.jpg

The number of participants for the in-game events called "Splatfests" has been steadily increasing since the first such event.
The 13th Splatfest, held from April 23rd to the 24th in Japan, saw around 790,000 participants, a record number.
With a total sell-through of 1.49 million units in Japan at the time the 13th Splatfest was held, this means that more than half of the software owners participated in this event. It is no small feat for so many users to be playing a title almost one year after launch, not only in Japan, but across the globe.

Honestly I like what this game does with FOMO.

While the catalog is a negative point (though not too bad since it really isn't too difficult to get level 100 in 3 months), I like that you will never be able to get all the badges (and certain ones are unattainable altogether to most players), and certain rewards will only be given to part of the playerbase.

They are forcing you to come to terms with the fact that no, you CANNOT get every little pointless thing ever, and that's okay.

Do you think there's a splatfest, preferably a frosty one, this month? I really hope there is.
If there is one, it has to be announced soon. I don't think it'll be this month, but early next month is likely (same happened for Splat 2 frostyfest)

i swear bro, the fucking matchmaking in anarchy series almost feels random as far as weapon distribution goes...

ive had 2 full series in a row where most games had a long range (either an eliter or a splatling) on the enemy team and my team had absolutely no answer to it.

then i get this incredible match lmao:

I've started taking screenshots of everytime the game matches two teams with two of the same weapon against each other. There's enough to to make a folder of them. And it's not like swapping weapons to create two more even comps isn't an option because it would lead to a skill imbalance, because usually the battles end up lopsided anyway, so that excuse doesn't fly.

It's both interesting and depressing how quickly this game can erode my good mood and patience with myself. I can run a losing streak for a good while, continuing to play because I don't think I mind, and then quickly become irate and despondent as I am mentally, emotionally, and in small part physically worn down.

I do enjoy Splat Zones, though.

Even Turf War will screw me over. Still having that perfect loss streak and now the game is actively making it impossible for me by having two snipers on the opposing team while my team consists of a Ranged Blaster and 3 splattershot Jrs. Again. 0 points every match. Doesn't matter how many matches I play, I am not allowed to advance the fucking catalogue.

2.5 months means nothing if you only get 1 level every 3 days. You need to be at least above 1 level a day to match the catalogue. If when I play the catalogue never goes up because the game repeatedly and insistently believes I am so good at this game that I must face against the fucking teams that have won international tournaments while my team consists of 3 newbies who have just started their first game, the amount of time is meaningless.

how quickly this game can erode my good mood

On that note, I learned something new today: If your team of randoms gets their asses whopped and disbands but the other team sticks together, Anarchy Series has no qualms about immediately throwing you and a new set of randoms against the same group of wolves who are on a winning streak of at least 1 again.

One of these days I'm gonna get a rank-up battle that isn't all double and triple backline, too.

Freaking finally! A single win! And surprise surprise it's the one where my comp isn't 4 shooters versus two E-Liters or Heavy Splatlings. I swear, it's like the game requires you to be a backliner so it doesn't actively screw you over...

No, no, no, see, the way it works is you get screwed over because all the backliners are put in teams with me, a backliner.

Have you tried Salmon Run? You get 7500 experience points for your first win of the day in any mode, SR included.

I miss being a Jet Squelcher backliner, I am/was very OK in supporting my teammates in S2 and dealing with other long range weapons.

I do depending on the comp. I'm not good with backline weapons at all (the closest is the Ranged Blaster) so depending on the Salmon run I will not participate.

Assuming you don't care about SR ranking, you could play until you win one shift, cause you eventually will. At worst you'll get some extra gear/chunks.

Hey, I quitted solo queue backline mid splatoon 2 because of this serie double charger comp matchmaking tendancy and the fact that without teamplay you're not effective. With a shooter you have so much more opportunities to turn the tide by yourself.

I wonder when we should expect the Large Scale DLC to release. I imagine around mid-next year?
Octo Expansion took 11 months and this time they're clearly behind schedule, so idk, doubt they'll miss the 1st year anniversary though

After grinding out Splatana Stamper for so long I decided to give the Wiper a go too...

It certainly wipes :)

You move so fast haaaaaa, I think I understand why Run Speed Up doesn't affect it

Can't do Wiper so far it feels like fighting with a needle coming from Stamper

I've figured out that with Wiper you just want to zone people out as hard as possible with the fast swipes, as opposed to Stamper where you're mostly fishing for the combo with charged slashes

Anarchy Series has turned so terrible. It had a good rotation at one point so I decided to play it, but it's just full of below-S+ players trying to rank up, so the matchmaking is super inaccurate because there's barely any strong players (they're all playing X Battles or playing Open with friends)

I was waiting for the clip to show mercy with your opponents and end at 30 seconds. But it just kept going. And going. And going. Brutal.

Seeing the movement from that POV helps me understand why it's so damn hard to land Explosher shots on Wipers.

I've only played a little over a dozen games in X Rank, but so far the matchmaking has been night and day compared to the S+ grind. I'm actually having fun playing Splatoon 3 again. Even when my team loses, the games are good and close. I'm never playing Anarchy Series ever again!! (until the reset next year. Sigh.)

Oh man this is such a tough choice!!!
I think I'll end up going for spicy because sweet gets sickening after a while, but sour..hm can't 1, 2, 3 think of sour food examples really.. but chocolate my beloved...

I feel like sweet might win majority for once though!

SRL-Fami Exchange Student here!

It looks like there's another Splatfest inkoming! This time, the theme is Spicy vs Sweet vs Sour!

Do you need that kick from the spice of life? Do you make your dentist cry with your sweet tooth? Or do you like making silly sour faces?

Voting begins on December 30th, and you can begin the flavor-fight when the Splatfest starts on January 7th! Good luck!

The idol they picked for each is weird to me. Sour should be Shiver, Spicy should be Frye, Sweet should be Big Man

Anyways this'll be my first time on Team Frye because I have a crazy sweet tooth

Frye gets the children's option yet again huh

With tricolor no longer being a comeback mechanic, I have zero faith in Sweet winning anything but popularity

It's still a comeback mechanic though?

It just doesn't arbitrarily force you in to a specific role any more in order to allow it to be an actual selectable mode and vastly improve one of the most major complaints from before, that matchmaking was haphazard at best; the actual result of the battles will be decided entirely by the battles where the winning at half time team is defending and the other two are attacking. And that's pretty much the definition of a comeback mechanic... And given that, as of this point, every single tricolour has swung the points total in favour of the attackers, even if the gap was too large for the Pokemon themed one, it's still effectively handing those points to one or both of the "attacking" teams.

I hate fighting Carbon Deco because literally every Carbon Deco player is on crack

I hate fighting Custom Jr because putting Torpedo on a bigger ink tank is atrocious but at least I can troll them back by 1-shot-annihilating their Wave Breaker with Object Shredder Tri-Stringer

I genuinely do not understand what you're trying to convey

All 3 teams can now either defend or attack at random, so the team with the stronger players will likely get the most clout out of tricolor. Unless I misunderstood something about the explanation from the patch notes, the halftime results have much less effect on tricolor matches.

I hope they fix Brella's before the end of the season. They're currently just gambling machines. Not only for if they open on time but also whether they actually protect you
