To be fair, a corporate boss caring more about profits then actually protecting the security of the city sounds quite on track to me given how real life business do the same thing.just clinched the bronze with 89, i'll take it
I enjoyed the event but I agree with a lot of the criticisms—there really isn't much to it beyond "salmon run on a regular stage". I imagine future Big Runs will be where they introduce new king salmonids, so hopefully that will at least help them feel more special. this is one of the two promised new timed modes (along with tricolor) that we had to look forward to before launch, and so far both of them have been pretty underwhelming
there've been loads of great ideas in this thread of how it could be different or better (guaranteed king salmonid after a clear, some way to feel like you're taking back the map from them), but by far the weirdest thing to me is the focus on golden eggs still—I know it's Grizzco's whole deal but it has literally nothing to do with "defending the city" lol, so there's really no justification for the quotas still being in place besides that we're still "at work", and the only special reward being so closely tied to egg count also is a bit dissonant. I'm also shocked it's not even any quicker to get scales during this! I loved the theming, especially in the plaza, but I still find myself wishing they went further with this in pretty much every direction

Hot Take: while the ability to skip the announcements is definitely appreciated, the loss of specific dialogue for stages definitely hurts Deep Cut's character. Having Big Run's Wahoo World Dialogue definitely gives us a better idea of who they are. They should have allowed the skip but kept the longer format. Not like it would have mattered since the skip allows people who don't care to ignore it and allows people who do want interactions more dialogue.
a lot of the flavor writing in the treehouse localization is a noticeable step down from 2
yeah, it was a huge lossCompletely agree.
I replay the Splatoon 2 final battle every now and then and the dialogue is so good and funny.
I wish Eric Smith (the writer/localizer) still worked at Nintendo.
Yeah is much flak that Splatoon 2's campaign gets for being a retread of 1's campaign (especially compared to the ultimately better campaign in Octo Expansion), I do think that 2 had more moments where you could take seriously even with the wacky stuff. Like compareCompletely agree.

For someone who’s mainly interested in single player:
Do you recommend buying splatoon 2 and getting octo expansion for free with the online subscription, or Splatoon 3?

Look at them beautiful trails and really cool twilight shadows:One last thing: I LOVED the Big Run lighting. Screw night matches, give me this warm and amazing twilight lighting during Splatfests. The trails left after swimming are so visible (no matter the ink color), and even during night Big Run shifts they were so distinguishable. Seriously, this would solve my biggest issue with Splatfests.
Based clam blitz enjoyerGod clam blitz is so good, I always forget that after a couple days of playing other modes somehow
Don't mess with Splatoon fansI see a lot of complaining about Big Run being a high score competition, and all I have to say to that is...
Git gud
(But seriously, there's nothing wrong with having rewards based on performance, and I'm not sure why it's suddenly an issue)
Blocking doesn't even do anything in this game. I've been matched with players I've blocked countless times. So I'm playing SR, it's Wave 3, low-tide cannons... should be an easy win, right? I wait at the top cannon because I know what I'm fucking doing there, but it's really obvious the other squid wants to man it. So I'm like fine, go for it.
The squid proceeds to
-NOT kill the Fly Fish
-NOT kill the Big Shots
-NOT do fucking anything useful, really
Just fuck off if you demand the cannon and proceed to lose the game for us. Easiest block in the world
I've been thinking about it and it's indeed puzzling, especially with the full context of that quote:Okay but can we talk about how "X rank is the top 1% of players in Splatoon 2!" was definitely a massive lie with Big Run results like these

Being based on weekly ranked players should lead to a lot less casuals than the first edition of a rare event available to all players
I've been thinking about it and it's indeed puzzling, especially with the full context of that quote:
"X Rank is an extremely challenging Ranked Battle experience targeting the best of the best players. Players who are S+10 and above in the current ranking system will be re-registered as X Rank. For reference, below is a breakdown of players across each rank (as of 2/20/2018):
※Calculated based on players that played Ranked Battle within the last week
※Because we rounded up from the hundredths decimal, the total may not be 100.0% exactly"
Being based on weekly ranked players should lead to a lot less casuals than the first edition of a rare event available to all players
... Also notice how the 2nd ※ is complete nonsense as no amount of rounding errors could explain the sum of all 6 numbers being 99.3%, 0.7% off.
We're talking about how the developers said that X Rank in Splatoon 2 was top 1% of the playerbase (despite it seeming like the most populated rank), while a lot of quite skilled players didn't manage to get top 5% in Big RunHow are you comparing or extrapolating X rank and Big Run? Are you assuming the top participants play[ed] both modes?
Oh, I see. Thanks for the answer. We're talking about how the developers said that X Rank in Splatoon 2 was top 1% of the playerbase (despite it seeming like the most populated rank), while a lot of quite skilled players didn't manage to get top 5% in Big Run
You can't statistically compare the two, but when you look at it, it seems like the X Rank 1% statistic might've been wrong
It was never wrong, reading data is just complicated. 1% of all players =/= 1% of active players. 1% of all players being in X in February 2018 means a much larger percentage of active players are in X because inactive players are going to be disproportionately grouped towards the lower ranks.Okay but can we talk about how "X rank is the top 1% of players in Splatoon 2!" was definitely a massive lie with Big Run results like these
