StarTopic Splatoon 3 |ST| The Mammal with the Three Golden Eggs (Sizzle Season 2024 announced)

What would you do at the world's end?

  • Total voters
    19
  • Poll closed .
For new weapon kits:
  • It's very surprising that they didn't have a new shooter kit. For as much as shooters tend to get favourable treatment, it's funny that they decided that not even one shooter (either .52 Gal or Squeezer) would have its time.
  • It's funny that they decided that Goo Tuber is the Charger that will get a new kit, as I thought that the Squiffer would be preferred. In fact, chargers having overall less alternative kits feels like there is a sense that they are perceived as powerful.
  • It's amazing that until now, certain "main" main weapons like Blaster and Splat Dualies don't even have their alternatives yet. At least both the Brella and the Stringer finally got theirs.
  • I'm really curious to see what both Dread Wringer and Heavy Edit Splatling's main deals are. The former I know fires two shots in succession, but we need to see how its damage stacks (like if the second shot is weaker than the first, how much falloff damage they do, that sort of thing). The latter doesn't look too different from the main Splatling but it might be possible that it has more pinpoint accuracy compared to most Splatlings (and the same as Ballpoint's long-range mode).
  • It's hard to point out which of the new weapons will get Super Chump, because a number of them seem like good candidates for it, like the Bloblobber and the Tri-Stringer.
  • It's funny how the Tri-Stringer's alternate weapon is called "Tri-Stringer Collab", because the Splat weapons at least gave them the brand they are collaborating with (e.g.: Tentatek Splattershot, Krak-On Splat Roller, Zink Mini Splatling).
  • If the pattern holds, next season will likely have new Dualies and new Brella, and the season after that would have new Stringer and new Splatana. Personally I thought it would be interesting to switch a couple of these.
Other stuff:
  • The ability to put caps on backwards look like it has some fun possibilities, but at the same time, it might only apply for caps. Wonder if that applies for Do-Rag, Cap & Glasses, since it's got more than the cap.
  • It feels early to do the idol Splatfest, since Splatoon 1 did it later relative to the game's release, and Splatoon 2 technically did it about 2 years since launch. Obviously it won't be the final Splatfest, but it's still funny that they decide to do this now. We'll see if Shiver actually is the preferable idol, or if she only got "victories" because the choices she is settled with are luckily in her favour. I don't see Frye winning it again, while Big Man might still have a chance (and the one I am rooting for due to him being unique in the history of idols).
  • Given the decision to have two completely original stages, I wonder if the old stages have already been done and only new stages are planned going forward. There might also be a chance that one stage may have a revamp within this season.
  • Surprised that another Salmon Run stage returns from the second game. But then again, maybe 3 is a decent number of stages to have for returning, and 4 might have been too much.

I know like the Dynamo is one of the worst weapons, but I'm glad the Gold is here finally. We just had to wait a whole year....
Go off ProChara, it seems like Gold Dynamo will be getting Splatbomb and probably Booyah Bomb, and actually; if that's the case, I'm happy. I did main the Gold Dynamo in Splatoon 2, en the Splatbombs one it were sick. And having the Booyah Bomb would be very cool too. Would be kinda a mix between Sploon 2's Gold and Kensa Dynamo.

I keep hoping for a new season to pull me back into the game, but this feels super lacking. New music sounds good, new maps look okay, but everything still feels like a slower way to roll off less content over time than 1 and 2 did, and I still hate the catalog.

This season looks decent but I am once again waiting for them

Well, it has Super Chump instead.. I wonder how it plays then.. I'm not familliar with Super Chump, only it to be a displacement special, but is very weak imo. Why give it on Dynamo Roller tho :( Unless someone explains me it's a good thing

Dread Wringer looks pretty good, reefslider aside. It's like a regular slosher and a trislosher had a baby

A new Grizzco weapon is coming with Big Run. It looks like a splatling or dualies but it's hard to say.

It makes sense to put Chump on a longer range weapon which can safely use it from far away to help frontline teammates, which it hasn't been paired with yet. However it's a bit of a strange choice to me since it also serves a support role which is relatively similar to vanilla dynamo's pairing with tacticooler.

Well, t-shirts were made bigger, but yeah. Wonder if headphones can be worn around the neck, and bandana's to be fit on the head.

Feels like it's only going to take a few days to get familiar with the content of this new season.

Hopefully that means we get a banger Side Order.

I'm still doubtful side order comes any time outside of a season themed entirely around it.

Looking at the list of content for the new season though... I'm already tired of it, and it's not even out yet 😅

Some Splatoon 2 gear are set to release for Season 6 in the files, so likely this one.

Originally those were meant to be released for Season 5, but were pushed to Season 6 since 4.0.0

Ocotbrush Noveau is barely going to be seeing its special if it aint at 180p or lower.

On the rest of the stuff...eh, I was hoping for something more meaty for its anniversary. If I come back to Splatoon or balze through my other games, its gonna be because of Patch Notes (not hopeful) or because of Heavy Edit Splattling which looks fun. Tacticooler is great for moblue Splattlings imo and they dont care much about subs so curling is w/e.

I'm worried they won't have new gear outside the catalog again... Especially since the Adjust Gear thing could be the "new gear" for the season

Oh man I completley missed a new Octobrush kit! I hate the Zipcaster special so I stopped using it, glad to pick it up again.

Yups, I fear for that too. It was such a letdown when there were no new cloths in the shop when Sizzle Season started :\

It's interesting to see that at least two new weapons will have Super Chump, which would have made it into more weapons than the specials initially (like Tenta Missiles). Of course, we do not know if Kraken Royale, Crab Tank, and Tenta Missiles would've made it into more weapons. I guess Super Chump's overall underwhelming performance made it a less special Special?

For the Dread Wringer, it's still difficult to see how its damage stacks. Sometimes it shows it not defeating an opponent in one swing (both trails hit), and sometimes both trails did the trick. I suppose we'll have to wait for the patch to be released to see how its damage stacks.

Thank you for reading.

I played Sizzle Season so barely that I wasn't caught up with the mid season update. Seeing Chump was buffed seems pretty cool, and might do well for Gold Dynamo. I think Gold Dynamo + Chump is a nice experiment, and can't wait to try that out. I hope that Dynamo's getting buffed in main general aswell, especially since Gold Dynamo was really wanted since the reveal trailer of this game. I can't really think of another reason why they brought it back so late in the game.

Me to whoever designed Barnacle & Dime:

Extremely underwhelming season update, I expected more of the anniversary celebration. At least the best Salmon Run map is back.

In this video I see 2 issues :
1 - The matchmaking algorithm has, once again, made a match where the 2 teams are clearly not on the same level.
2 - The winning team has completely forget the point of the game is to have fun and is going full bully mode leading the player on the weaker team to have an execrable experience during this match.

This golden salmon rotation is so good. I might grind it up to 600 EVP for the first time

I'm not sure why you'd blame the map when a team with an eliter and hydra are intentionally launching into their own occupied base just to be immediately killed. This would happen on every map if players chose to do that.

I really hate Ninja Squid so much, huh. It's so frustrating, especially when that person is also spawncamping. Wished it never came to the game. It is so overused, and I refuse to play a gear with that abillity.

Recently got my first Eggsecutive VP 999 achievement! The random rare rotation makes it possible, so I have the golden Jammin' Slammin' Junction badge, not to mention the Hazard Max badge. Given how much time had to be spent to get that, it feels like a hassle to get the golden badge. I do think that making it 800 or 900 would be enough for gold badges of maps. There is really no need to make it only accessible at 999 (though I guess unlocking everything can still remain at 999).

Every Grizzco weapon has extreme strengths that make them always good to have, though I think the Grizzco Splatana is difficult to use. Using the slash is not the hard part, but the charged slash can be tricky since it's easy to overshoot. They do have some extreme weaknesses, especially when it comes to ink efficiency. Hopefully the next Grizzco weapon provides a unique gameplay style that separates it from other Grizzco weapons. I am guessing that the next one will be a roller.

Thank you for reading.

Yes, this would, could and actually happens in other maps, but not to the degree of B&D, where it's such a common occurrence.
It's small, the bottleneck is too close to spawn area/base and there are not [good] alternative routes to get out of there or approach other areas. It's to the center (to the bottleneck) or to the right (uninkable floors making you vulnerable and to the bottleneck again), not even giving you a real fighting chance. The design of the map itself promotes spawncamping when it's easier for the enemy to hide than for the team to get out.

The matchmaking isn't good, you're right, but I'm not going to blame the winning team for just playing the game when they weren't actively trying to be contemptible (and I honestly don't see many cases where people actually are).

It's true except for the specific weapon comp in this case. Barnacle & Dime isn't the worst for allowing backliners a foothold between spawn and mid to get their team back in. Sadly, impatience and the surprise ding of an inkzooka have ruined many a Hydra Splatling's who though they stood in a safe spot day.

IDK, I think the fact that despite the weapon comp the team got ambushed by 3 brushes says a lot about how bad the map layout is, especially when this particular situation happens more often than not in B&D (and than any other map in the game, to my experience.)

I beat like 4 king salmonids and got 0 gold scales. It's simply absurd how stingy they are with them, even the most exploitative gacha games have better drops rates.

If you FACE a king salmonid in Eggsecutive VP, it should 1 GUARANTEED GOLD every time. Just facing, not beating. If you BEAT a king salmonid in Eggsecutive VP, it should be minimum 2 GUARANTEED GOLD every time. There is simply no reason for them to make it so hard to get them, it's just asshole design.

I concur on the absurdly low chance of golden scales. 3% chance for Hazard Level MAX is still rare, and even on my last run at 333%, I didn't get any (11 bronze, 2 silver). I daresay that 20% for silver at max difficulty is also very low and I hope that they revised the percentages, or at least make either silver or gold guaranteed if you managed to beat the King Salmonid.

It was a struggle to stockpile 30 gold scales and I am still 2 short. I wanted to get the Juice Parka but then they will add the Cap of Legend next season for the same price so that's another gear to get with hard-to-earn gold scales.

Thank you for reading.

That match was extremely fun 🙃
Unfortunately NS isn't going anywhere cause it's a good ability, easily exploitable by [darker] ink colors, lighting (for example, Splatfest are difficult for color blind people), and latency when used with Swim Speed Up.
You eventually do learn to notice the players depending on the stage or get used to patterns, but yeah, sometimes it's impossible amidst the chaos of the match.
If they are not going to nerf the ability (its last change was more like a "sidegrade") my fix would be making the swimming trails more visible, no matter the lighting. Just look at how the trails look during the twilight hour of the Big Runs events. It makes a huge difference.

Look at them beautiful trails and really cool twilight shadows:

... They managed to do even worse than that. The 2nd half of the catalog is literally just gear we already have. Happy 1st anniversary Splatoon 3!

It's so over.

Hopefully we get (a proper) Splatoon 4 faster than we got Splatoon 3, at this rate I don't think this game will do well once the support ends. (ACNH moment)

New horizons continues to sell millions every year, and outpaces things like Pokémon, there's been nothing wrong with that games legs. It sold something like another 5m units during the last ~15 months up to June, which most games would kill for. Especially when it has to be hitting literal walls because everyone already has the game as the second highest attach rate on the system.

Splatoon 3 already isn't doing as well [comparatively to 2] outside of Japan and the total is being held up largely held up by the Japan sales outpacing 2s lifetime while 3 is likely going to end up well behind 2 everywhere else.
The domestic numbers up to December last year were from the white papers
  • Splatoon 2-5.26m
  • Splatoon 3-6.32m
While the worldwide sales were at the time
  • Splatoon 2-13.60m (= 8.34m sold outside Japan)
  • Splatoon 3-10.13m (= 3.81m sold outside Japan)
So Japan was ~62% of 3's sales while it was only ~39% of 2's. They need to do something to fix the series sales dropping off a cliff outside of Japan.
It also sold ~500k more in the following quarter, but again, majority of these were in Japan, and all this grindy FOMO crap hasn't done it any favours.

... They managed to do even worse than that. The 2nd half of the catalog is literally just gear we already have. Happy 1st anniversary Splatoon 3!

Can't say I'm surprised. It's been clear that we're not getting more content than we did for 2 for a while, on almost any front. We're just getting it slower, and 2 only got 2 or 3 major gear updates (The 2.0 and 3.0 updates, I think, are the only ones there that added significant amounts of gear). We'll get a second major gear update with the season that adds Side Order and that'll be it, I bet. Otherwise we'll only be getting little random amiibo gear drops and similar.

Poor wording from my part but I meant cutting support from the game earlier than expected, not the game flopping.

But in the long run, I don't think this game will have ACNH's momentum going after Season 9.

The thing about this is, it's not 3% chance of getting a Gold scale. That 3% translates to around 25% of getting at least one gold scale. Even at low eggsecutive VIP, it's still ~1/6 chance per king salmon kill. Its supposed to be grindy, like everything else in the game has been designed to be more, to the games detriment, but if you're doing every salmon run shift up to the point of killing a king salmonid, you will on average get about 1 gold scale a bit over a week, more if you do more than one king salmonid.

Of course, math means this only works out over the long term averages. All guaranteeing you get a gold shell every round would mean is that they make the store stuff way more expensive. If they were giving 2 every successful kill, like suggested higher up, the stuff in the store would be something like ten times the price. They wouldn't be letting anyone get towards them any quicker.

Splatoon 3's updates are still going to end up with a better grade than Splatoon 2's updates if they avoid forcing radical game-changing post-launch experiments like Main Power Up.

On the Salmon Run front, I'll say the mode represents my biggest disappointment in all of Splatoon 3. Yes, ahead of maps, seasonal content and crappy matchmaking. It's tuned in such a way that the difference between casual side activity and max amount of time I could afford to invest in it is so neglibible in terms of rewards, I may as well not bother. Obtaining the OG slopsuit is pretty much the progression end point for me. Everything beyond is too far out of reach to make a play for it.

I still don’t understand why this game came out when it did vs. letting it bake for another year or two to be ready for launch on the next system.

Aside from maybe wanting to do a reset of player gear progression, they easily could’ve gone the Mario Kart 8 DX route and just updated Splat2 more.

As far as Nintendo multiplayer games go, this one is a bit of an anomaly. We don’t get multiple Smash, Mario Kart, or Mario Sports iterations in a generation.

Both Splatoon 1 and 2 had patches that massively changed the gear abilities near the end of the updates. 2.6.0 on splat 1 basically changed everything.

I also fully expect something similar for 3.

Oh, that catalogue is genuinely terrible 🤨 Hopefully stuff gets added to the shops instead or they do some Halloween items in October like for 2.

Merchandising. Splatoon has a lot of new merchandise that they want to keep pushing out and keep the series in the minds of people. It's one thing that we only get one mario kart or golf, but the next mario game is always right around the corner. We're probably looking at almost 30 mario or mario related branded games on switch by the time it's done. Splatoon only has Splatoon. Without a new game, they don't have new songs for concerts or soundtracks, new idols or other new characters to make merch off (which there is a absolute ton of, even if it's mostly in Japan), new amiibo, so on.

Plus, arena shooters are far more reliant on updating to keep people's interest. Mario kart and the mario sports games don't have that much competition really in the markets they're targeting, Splatoon is up against a far more crowded field. They could have perhaps come up with a spin off instead, but I fully understand why the game got a second entry on switch, because otherwise the series would have languished with no new content for 4-5 years, which is a lifetime for a arena shooter

Personally I don't care much about what you can get from the catalog as I don't play to collect stuff, but it says a lot about where the game is going in the future.

At least we also got something positive, the new Splatling seems amazing

For anyone who doesn't get what makes it unique:

Every current Splatling has a fire rate of 4 frames, except for Ballpoint which is 5 frames (long range) or 3 frames (short range)

Once fully charged, Heavy Edit has a fire rate of 3 frames, the fastest in the game only matched by Ballpoint short range. That's with mid range, great accuracy, very high strafe speed, high bullet velocity, 4 shots to splat, around 25% (or 20?) ink consumption per full charge and very slow charge time. Its partial charges have a slower fire rate though (maybe slower strafe speed too).

That kill on the charger behind the wall made fall-off damage look absurd.

Nautilus was just on an upswing following the Ballpoint nerf. Wonder if the Heavy Edit won't immediately cut it short.

Damn at that stage already with reusing old gear. Definitely gonna be barebones until Side Order comes out since that’s what they’re holding for the big content updates it seems.

4 needs to be way better handled than how 3 is so far.
