Someone on ERA posted a picture of SOR 2 and compared scanlines to no scanlines. The poster said there were no scanlines, but the shot was noticeably blurry.

I'm in my house now. It feels like very soft scanlines. Like, over light colors (for example the Moon on the Shinobi 3 intro, or the paper door) you can see the scanlines, but they are not as noticeable as in the NES and SNES emulator

I'm counting the minutes to replay OoT and all the other games, but I´m not paying the expansion until they clarify if I'm going to have the option to buy the Animal Crossing DLC and keep it forever even if I'm subscribed to the online expansion pack, or if I'll only be able to take it for free. I dont want the DLC to be dependant to the subscription, escpecially if it needs to make a online check every 7 days like with the online consoles.
It's reliant on the subscription. If your sub lapses, you'll keep any items but you won't be able to access the DLC area itself.

If you have the sub, the DLC page on the eShop won't let you buy it. So you should buy it first if that's your plan.

So apparently it is NERD, whom also worked on All Stars as well. Which is weird, because it is not like them to miss some of these things. Like their work on the SNES Classic and NSO and All Stars was fantastic.

I wonder if they ran into issues with the deadline looming and just ran out of time?

You can already but the DLC on its own right now and get the Expansion Pack after if you want.

Yes, I think I'll have to wait at least until friday, when the dlc will be ready to preorder, and then after buying it I'll get the expansion pack. Thanks for the answers!

NERD's work in 3D All-Stars was limited to Sunshine and certain aspects of Galaxy. iQue handeld 64.

We also don't have confirmation that they did this, it just seems more likely than not. I will say that Nintendo 64 is by a mile the most complicated system they've emulated where the release version of the emulator had to be generalized, not specialized for just a game or two.

They likely also worked on Game Boy between 3D All-Stars and now.

30$ / 20€ for a really shitty service, guess this is what happens when Nintendo is top of the market, they become greedy as fuck and totally anticonsumer.
I don’t think this has much to do with Nintendo’s current place in the market tbh. I think a paid service was always going to happen and I think $50 is the price Nintendo has wanted for a long time.

A word of warning from my experience - any upgrade will revert to one year at first, even if you're currently subscribed for longer. If you have an existing membership longer than about two years, that's going to waste some of what you've already paid for, as the discount will hit a cap of one year's cost. I extended my group membership up to three years first and then upgraded - which means that one year's payment is entirely wasted.

I've submitted a ticket to request a refund, fingers crossed!

Why not just get the Expansion Pack now and buy the DLC in a year if you decide not to renew and if you still have an interest in owning it?

Okay, just finished a one hour session on the N64 app. I have focused on Mario Tennis and Mario Kart 64

While people seems to be focusing on Ocarina of Time (and certain issue with textures i still don't see) MT and MK64 run almost without a hitch, Tennis in particular has been plagues with issues on emulation that were unsolved for years, and it wouldn't have been strange to see any of them pop up but no, everything was fine.

Same thing on Mario Kart: No strange sprite outlines, the screen in Luigi's Raceway works correctly (maybe too correctly lol, it updates at the same framerate it does on original hardware) and only thing i notice is the unfiltered texture of the top of Peach Castle in the awards sequence

Because I'll be traveling in the next months for work and I don´t know if I'll have acces to internet, so I don't want to have an online check in order to play the DLC.

Has anyone had the opportunity to try the Retro-Bit Tribute 64 on the N64 NSO games? It's a controller I'd like to own generally, but the purchase would be made easier if it works nicely with the N64 games on Switch

I get you, but worst case scenario, can you use your phone as a hotspot? Online check takes only a few seconds.
This. I have to do the check for nearly every game I play as my main Switch is set as my secondary, and my primary is set as my partner's. It means we can easily access each others' libraries... Mine is much bigger! Honestly pressing the hot spot button on my phone isn't such a deal when travelling. And it only checks every 3 hours.

I’m really curious to see the scope of the first update. Well we should see it by December so not too long to wait

Same. Hopefully Nintendo goes back to monthly updates since there are four systems now to support.

Man I just want to play Banjo Kazooie SO BAD. It's been probably 20 years (or more) since I've touched it. It's gonna be insane to actually play it again.

Come on, lets not do this type of thing on this site. I am annoyed at the fog and transparency bug in OoT as well, but come on...

I don't get this take, unless your family group is split on wanting it. Proportionally, the family plan went up less than the individual plan (129% increase vs. 150% increase). Even with just two people on a single plan, the per-person cost went up less ($22.5) than the individual ($30).

I need someone to explain the extra disdain for the family plan price to me; you're not the first person I've seen express it.

Irregular doesn't mean infrequent. I'm not surprised they're not committing, but I wouldn't be surprised if the first few updates are monthly.
Cause the value isn’t there especially if only one person on your plan wants to play the games.

In general the issue is all in for $80 I’m not getting close to $80 worth of value for a year for my family. I mean actual fam too vs just a random group who get together for a fam plan.

I get if you want to break it down percentage wise, but it’s still the highest price. It also doesn’t help that we don’t really play AC in my family anymore and so the DLC doesn’t do anything for me.

Let me add that if you were gonna get the DLC anyways this is probably a boon for you. So a lot of the value proposition is purely in the amount you get out of the AC DLC. If you were gonna buy it anyways then it’s much more of a W than if you don’t own or currently play AC.

Same, my siblings and I all play ACNH so DLC is ultimately why I'm getting the family plan upgrade. Genesis is also something I'd use. N64 is just gravy at this point, I have no nostalgia for it so I can take it or leave it.

Oh no, for me Mega Drive and more than anything N64 were the main factors, but the price was a huge deterrent for me. When my sis and i talked about it and i realized we were going to buy the DLC for each of us i decided to bite the bullet.

Okay, initial datamining time. There are at least 38 N64 games planned for the service.

They're listed alphabetically, so you could try to guess which games fall into the gaps. I'm certain #37 is Majora's Mask and 14-16 are Mario Party 1-3, for example.

Mega Drive proved to be even more interesting.

At least 52!

And if you needed more proof that at least one additional NSO platform is coming, look at the first digit of the game IDs. SNES was 2, N64 was 3, MD is 5. Essentially; Game Boy is coming.
Awesome to see there is plenty of built-in room for expansion.

Did we have similar data for NES and SNES? If so, have those been filled?

They did... something to all the textures that seems to have caused a lot of artifacts. I'm hesitant to point it out because it's hard to unsee.
I have noticed you've not been detailing it and I just want to say I do appreciate it - because without having it spelled out I will definitely remain blissfully unaware. Haha.

On another note, has there been a single report of satisfactory online? I really hope so. Even if it's rare. My friend and I want to play Tennis and, down the line...Stadium minigames (edit: just saw one above, that's good to see)

I can't wait to play Majoras Mask. OoT really looks bad compared to MM.
Crazy how much they managed to get out of the N64

I played DK64 and that game was really slowing down at parts, even with the required expansion pack to add more RAM.

That 64 was getting long in the tooth towards the end.

Thats honestly a lot of N64 and Genesis games.

I really hope that means that games will be releasing at a good clip.

Nintendo life streamed it, and the online seemed fine there. Especially with 2 people.

What have iQue done before aside from Mario 64? Disappointing if true that NERD didn’t work on this.

I just realized that there is a Contra and Castlevania game from the stand alone collections on the Genesis app/library. I wonder if that is a one off or if we might see more games from those collections in future NSO updates.

It’s the same version

It's not. That's the most recent Japanese version translated to English and with some updated textures. The one on NSO is the NTSC- (or PAL-)version with all the bugs and glitches speedrunners love intact.

It’s the same version
It’s not actually, this is the NA version with all the speed running glitches like backwards long jump still intact and no rumble. All stars used the final Japan version

Yeah gives me some hope on n64 too tho maybe not in the current planned batch…

Okay, played some OoT. The fog is missed because it added to the atmosphere of the game. So hopefully they fix that. Other than that, outside of the remapping issue, I think the rest of the games seem... fine?

I have not played on original hardware since like 2002, so I cannot tell on the input lag? Like I believe it is there when people point it out, but I can't notice it much?

Everytime a service like this launches the internet gets filled with comments about how everything performs terribly, how things are unplayable and similar stuff, and every single time I play the thing and barely notice the things that people complain about. This isn't to take away from anyone who actually notices problems but I feel people tend to go into hyperbole mode for this stuff often.

Now, things like lack of control remapping are truly annoying.

Note: I don't own this yet, my post is more about previous stuff that's been highly complained about in the internet. Examples like input lag in previous VC, framerate in Link's Awakening, etc.
There are legitimately some emulation issues with N64 that weren't present in previous iterations of Nintendo's emulator. They don't completely ruin the experience (although OoT in particular looks pretty bad at times), but they're very distracting if you notice them.
