Bah, is gyro a feature they mentioned is coming do we know?

How about performance, notice any differences?
Gyro seems to be a wanted feature online, not for me though.
About performance, nothing significant, it's not better and it's not worse. I think the terrain mining is better, on the launch version it took some time to deform the terrain, now it's visible immediately.

And now I'll pick it up. I love to support the good ports when I can. Looks awesome. Played it on Game Pass but it just isn't the game to be forced on a TV for hours.

Are there any larger scale space battles like in the Star Wars movies or am I looking at the wrong kind of game for that kind of thing

I haven't followed everything from every patch, but I don't recall battles getting much bigger than a handful of pirate ships at a time.

Ok, I am done with Nier and ready to be sucked into this universe for God knows how many hours.

I am currently looking for a lot of cash to buy a hyperdrive. Does anyone have any tips on how to speed up that grind?

I feel like you get one quite easily by following the story objectives? I'm not even sure how I got mine but I know I didn't have to grind cash for it.

This seems to be doing quite well on the UK eshop, 4th place already. I hope it sells well so they continue to update the game, I'm salivating at the thought of a native res Switch 2/Pro version.

Anyone know how to get UK eshop pounds? It's way cheaper there. I was gonna spend $60 usd but have bought a little too much lately

Yeah, it's part of the main quest, but I am awfully short on cash. I guess I am off to grind some materials then!

Can't help but feel the game's procedural generation just decided to mess with me big time. I just had a mission of the main quest feature an objective in an underwater building on a highly-radioactive oceanic planet. I had to swim for a ridiculous distance under heavy radiation while constantly restoring my environmental protection. I was able to get back to the ship with a sliver of health and completely out of shield-regeneration resources. Phew, that was tense.

Some main quest missions specifically happen in hazardous planets, as a fixed thing.

I really hope that people haven't been put off by that Digital Foundry video. I've been playing handheld on the OLED and none of the issues the mentioned popped out to me. The only times I've noticed stutter is when the pulse drive starts and when you enter some planets atmosphere.

I've put about 12 hours in so far and I'm loving it!

Same here regarding the issues. The pop-in is also pretty bad at times, but personally I don't feel it's a deal-breaker.

Late edit because I forgot to respond!

Yeah, I read about it, but I think the combination of extremely radioactive planet, oceanic setting, and target lying at the bottom of the sea with a six-minute swimming time to the closest surface was a very unlucky roll of the dice.

Assuming they wanted you in Exocraft for that one!

Quick Q: what's missing from this. Outposts I believe, and are expeditions cut too? Considering grabbing it for Switch as I feel the form factor suits my play time rather than over on Xbox.

Outposts was basically building a small town in which you would had to make some quick decisions from time to time, but it was more esthetical than playable. I don't think its a big loss, building your basement its much more relevant.

Yeah, it just adds an extra diversion for the old gameplay loop. I always found No Man's Sky at odds with itself slightly... a core objective of continually pushing on towards the centre, but also to stay in your system and farm your way to success!

Tell you what, watching videos of this through the lens of examining streaming, pop in, LOD changes really does the game a disservice. I got it yesterday, pumped in in and it really does translate the experience to handheld so well. I wish it had outposts, I wish it had cross-platform saves, but I'm more than happy for this to be untethered from the TV.

Im happy for people that they can play it on the switch, im happy for hello games that the sentiment around the game changed.

Its just that the original looked sooooo fantastic, that every time i see a trailer for this version i feel like im missing out on the aspect that would be the highest value for me.

So i will wait and see if there is a patch for Switch 2 when it releases that brings it up to par of other platforms.

have you played on the other platforms? A lot of the jank, including unstable fps and lod changes, you may attribute to the Switch is present in all versions.

oh, no. I don't have a platform that could work.
And i don't even talk about the jank. i talk about the reduced fidelity.
The gameplay does not really seem that interesting to me, it would be mostly a visual marble for me. From that perspective, the changes just reduce the game for me to much.

On the other hand, Nier Automata did not seem as if its missing anything while moving from PS4 to switch, but there i was more into the world and gameplay then the fidelity.

different games , scope and engines. NMS is procedural and has no loading screens once you load it up, which is part of the lod issues present in all versions. If you're after visual marvels, it can deliver. There are people posting screenshots of the game on twitter that looks pretty amazing.
That said, I think it's a waste of your money to play a game with a gameplay loop you don't enjoy for the visual marvels. You won't get to the interesting planets if you don't enjoy the game. it's a bit grindy resource collecting sim at its core with base building and exploration.

oh, im well aware WHY those ports are different, i think that the NMS port is a great port. its just not delivering on the aspects that i would love.

And its not that im against the gameplay loop, for a while it would be fine. but my main draw would be the visual marble.
If i would be hating the gameplay loop then i would be with you that its not worth it. There where a bunch of games that i did not bother because of that. NMS is on the edge, its fine, it would not hold me for long.
But enough to take a peak in the art direction and find some great vistas.
i assume that i would manage 15-20 hours, depending on how the loop plays out when playing myself.

Really keen to see how Nintendo handle the entire BC thing. It could be:

THERE IS NO BC!
You can play your old games, exactly like you played them the first time around!
Have a look at your tasty fresh coat of paint old games!

Really depends on how Nintendo go in on it. Microsoft set a bit of a benchmark with how they treated BC and cross generation, but they are also the best at solid OS level stuff, so they always are a cut above.

We should lower our expectations with BC and Nintendo.
The best we can hope for is 99% compatability with maybe targeted upgrades.

That said Nintendo clearly went out of their way to get certain games on Switch. I just wonder if there will be consistency once they move to new hardware if they will reach out to devs to go back and patch games. Witcher 3 and NMS for example got next-gen upgrades. No reason it can't happen on Nintendo's consoles.

Since Nintendo isn't doing a clean break like they did when transitioning from the Wii U to Switch, backwards compatibility is extremely likely imo.

...now any performance boost? I not expecting anything of the sort because Nintendo is a funny company.

Be interested to see what the Switch content is. I'll go hunting.

Patch notes:

nexus-missions-switch-3-672w.png

For the first time on Nintendo Switch, sign up at the Space Anomaly to undertake challenging missions for Priest Entity Nada and Specialist Polo.

The Nexus interface offers an ever-updating selection of missions at specific locations, ranging from discovery, to combat, to base building, and much more.

Every day, with a bonus at weekends, the Nexus offers a new mission rewarding Quicksilver. Polo’s Quicksilver Synthesis Companion will be pleased to exchange this special currency for a wide range of exotic collectables.

A TRACE OF METAL ON SWITCH

For the first time on Nintendo Switch, delve into the secrets of the Sentinels in the story-driven mission “A Trace of Metal”.

Collaborate with Iteration: Tethys, befriend a drone and steal powerful Sentinel technology to upgrade your Minotaur Exocraft.

MOTION CONTROLS

On PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, stick input can now be enhanced with gyroscopic motion sensor control.

Achieve effortless precision when aiming at enemies with the Multi-Tool, and feel fully immersed as you tilt your hands to scan fauna with the Analysis Visor.

Motion control can be enabled and disabled for individual contexts, and the sensitivity and smoothing can be fine-tuned in the Options menu.

Switch has so many games you can get into. This has always been on my radar but my back log is insane. I have to beat the Bioshock trilogy first.

I'm really really really hoping there is some sort transition to the next platform with performance patches. I'll still have so many, plus ones that are in-flight, I don't want to have to buy the same thing again, especially with a large physical collection like this.

They are at the end of the day still an indie. I don't think there's even cross progression for any platform.

So. I booted this up and jumped straight into the expedition. Trying to decide whether to run with whatever I get out of this as my main save. I remember expeditions give great shortcuts in terms of a leg up for suit slots and stuff, although I wonder if I'm shortcutting a lot of the game experience. Plus I remember that expeditions are quite busy areas of space, and it might be nice to start somewhere remote.

BUT onto the game. Sure, it is fairly chunky, some glitches, but christ this is NMS on a Nintendo Switch. One of my big swing factors in getting a fixed home console to play un-Switchable games on. That's pretty decent.

Only playing in handheld on Lite at the moment, so cannot vouch for how the big screen experience is.

sean showing off gyro.

Just what I needed to finally get it. It's crazy to me that in the year 2023 of our Lord, there are still developers who do not implement gyro aiming in those games on release considering how receptive the community seems to be. I haven't bought BioShock for that reason only.

So they have added nexus missions and expeditions since the launch build

Incredible support. The hope is we get multiplayer and capes. Lol

Now here is an issue I have with the Switch version. The Terrain Manipulator seems to be really really inconsistent. I can stand firing it into a wall or some ore, and it'll do nothing or take a good age to recognise that I am doing something. Not a game breaker, just an irritation. Came rather to light as I attempted to hide inside a hill to get away from sentinels.
