This would be the best week for Nintendo to announced the Metroid Prime 1 Remake/Remaster lol

I think there is easy money for Nintendo in remaking games from their catalog, could be almost any game dating back to Nes. They are sitting on a cash cow. Remake the graphics and improvement to gameplay and even few extra levels if they wanted. Like imagine a remake of Mario bros 3 or Super Mario world? Zelda link to the past, donkey Kong country, Mario 64 , ocarina of time etc … you get he picture. They would sell based on nostalgia alone and for newcomers who have never experienced those games before.
They’re aggressively not interested in doing that unless they have a reason to like with some of the console -> portable ports that happened over the years. Those were either for the novelty factor / tech demo or to get the games to a wider audience (generational or when the portable was selling better than the home system).

I think Nintendo would rather just keep stuff like NSO or retro compilations going than remaking games from top to bottom in the general case. For their more revered games I think they like waiting for a human generation to pass before reissuing the game, sort of akin to Disney’s “vault” concept. Simply put they know nostalgia is a hell of a drug and dangling a shiny new version of an old title is a good way to get parents to spend money on a game & system for their kid(s).

The day is December 30, 2022. Famiboards is still holding out hope for the Metroid Prime Remaster to be announced before the end of the year.

One must never lose hope. I can’t even remember how long it’s been, since the trilogy rumours and when the games didn’t show at the game awards where they were suppose to be revealed. Chaos!

I'm really depressed with the results of Brazilian election right now.. so many affected with Bolsonaro's daily negligence and stupidity. Minorities like me living scared of a walk down the streets.. and yet, so many votes for him it's unbelievable. Just gross..

I'm so angry, but at the same time I feel I don't have energy to even complain anymore..

I truly don't know.. I hope some folks that voted in other candidates don't throw their votes away in the run-off, but the amount of people willing to support Bolsonaro this time around is really discouraging.

As decent as the Sheikah concept sounded on paper, losing out on THIS hurts much more.

I would've eaten this up, and then been pleading for sequels.
I agree. This sounds so much better. To think we could’ve had a Zelda tactics type of game from Retro would’ve been so cool. I love the book idea and the heroes you play as.

That Zelda fan theories thread has me remembering the fun times discussing fan theories for a lot of other games - anyone remember the "Ultimecia is actually Rinoa" theory for FF8? That theory had some holes in it and I'm pretty sure was officially debunked, but it also was a really cool idea that I like a lot. And it was one of my first exposures to internet message board fan theories back in the day.

I always liked Squall is dead.

That moment when you're still getting over that asshole Ian and there might be another storm on the way

This is it, the month I finally get two games I have been wanting since 2017; Bayonetta 3 and Nier Automata.
It feels surreal after half a decade of waiting. From what I've seen of both, it looks like October is gonna be on heck of a month!

Shoutout to Platinum for being their beautifully crazy selves. There's nobody else quite like them.

Can't wait for the reviews: "The majority of Metroid Prime 4's story is told through scanning logs and computers, similar to how item descriptions tell the lore the dark Darks Souls series".
I actually did read a review years ago that referred to the Zelda series as "Nintendo's Soulslike franchise" 🙃

I am going to happily devour all that hot new Metroid lore we're gonna see

Indeed.

At this point, I'm just left wondering if Retro and Tanabe are going to follow through with those old plans about having Samus (and Sylux?) stuck on a world that has time travel, and continue Tanabe's tour de force through revisiting and reinvigorating his old Zelda game concepts.

But it'll be worth it if Prime finally gets an "out" for continuing its own plotline into a splinter timeline branch! Just blame it on "Sylux manipulating events from behind the scenes that make it impossible for the events of Metroid 2 and etc. to happen on this branch", or what-have-you!

Walked by a group of kids taking tae kwon do classes. It’s equal parts adorable and hilarious. Little tots trying to spar but they have only the barest grasp of the rules. One pair ended up just hugging each other and laughing. Cute.

It's wild you say this. I was thinking of exactly that last night, lol. 😅 The Prime games officially becoming their own, divergent timeline, I mean. In some sense, I'd understand if they went that route, especially considering it would free them from the creative shackles of all these stories eventually having to lead into the events of Metroid 2.

I think one of the wilder, more out there mindfucks they could potentially pull out of their back pockets is if somehow, the planetary impact caused by one of the Leviathans from Phaaze already split the timeline prior to the events of Prime 1, and we've been playing as a Samus on a different path, the whole time. Aether's Leviathan famously split the planet into two parallel dimensions (which is weirdly paranormal for Metroid, even despite the ghosts in Super and Prime 1), so the foreshadowing for such a revelation will have already been present.

On the other hand, an aspect of Metroid I really appreciate is how straightforward its storyline has historically been. It's the polar opposite of Zelda, in that regard, as there's never been any convoluted timeline hijinks complicating matters more than necessary.

I think if the games ultimately remained in the same position of leading into Metroid 2, that certainly wouldn't be the worst thing. The Prime subseries is interesting from a narrative standpoint, because it recontextualizes Samus's mission to SR388. It wasn't just what the Pirates did on Zebes that immediately lead to the Federation seeking to eradicate an entire species, but rather, a series of compounding incidents, and various crises, that inevitably lead to that point. It makes it so that killing the Metroids on their homeworld was a last resort. I think that'd be in line with what we know of Samus's character. Personally, I think she'd only do something like that if she knew it was the only option left.

I'll always be partial to "the Striaton Trio are the Shadow Triad" from Pokemon Black/White before it was debunked.

Scanning lore in Prime was fantastic. For it’s time, it was cool to see a story that you had agency over, you could make it as shallow or as deep as you liked. Very well written too.

Man, that news about key figures behind Disco Elysium leaving ZA/UM… that hurts. I guess getting even one game like Disco Elysium is already a minor miracle considering the current state of the industry.

I'd be extremely surprised if we saw Metroid Prime HD this year. At this point, I'm expecting a February reveal for a March release. Although I would absolutely love to be wrong and get surprised on this count!

Who do you think will win the run-off?

Not Brazilian, of course, but just from voting behaviour perspective it is caeteris paribus very unlikely that Bolsonaro picks up >5.2% from the 8.4% that didn't vote for either candidate in the run-off. That would require a 62% of a demographic that wanted someone else to replace him preferring him to his main opponent, which would be a 144% of his support rate total. Nothing's impossible of course, but...

Edit: Adding to this, Lula needs 1.6% to a clear majority and about 4% of the 8.3% went to left-leaning parties.

To be honest I've been itching to play Prime 1 again and... the Remaster is taking too long, so out of impatience I've just gone back to the GC original on my Steam Deck. Still holds up superbly.

I might still end up getting the Remaster but I guess it depends what it brings to the table.

After 330+ hours and catching up to all the current main quest stuff, I'm giving FF14 a break. I started in July and spent all Summer playing this game. I'm burnt out like crazy on it. Gonna give me my Switch more love and continue by Shining Pearl play through, Splatoon 3, and check out some Mario Maker 2 levels.

How was everyones weekend?

We know Prime Remastered exists since it’s the same source that 100% nailed Fire Emblem Engage. There’s only a few general possibilities in regards to its release timing:

Timeline A is it comes out this year. I’m rolling with this one. It’ll get announced any time between now and the anniversary for a November or December release. I currently think we hear about it within the next two weeks and it comes out in November as the non-Pokemon Holiday game. While it did get Treehouse coverage, I don’t think Nintendo considers Harvestella the non-Pokemon Holiday game for them.

Timeline B it fills a gap early next year. March and April are both empty right now so Nintendo may want to space out their games. This is reasonably plausible though I do think we’ll get a Mario game in this period before the movie and that’s enough until Zelda where they won’t have to hit a panic button to delay Prime Remastered.

Timeline C it’s the Drake launch title. I don’t personally believe this theory since I don’t think you lead the gen 2 Switch with a GameCube remaster. Apparently this game looks good (it always did), but I never got the vibe from the rumors the remaster was extra stunning where it was a tech showcase.

Timeline D is the worst timeline where Prime 4 is like holiday 2024 or something so they save Prime Remaster until we are a year out. I think Prime 4 is the 2023 holiday title, but we know nothing about it so it is only a gut feeling. This is plausible, but I choose not to believe this.
