NSO Wave Race 64 coming to NSO August 19 (out now!)

Good to see this continuing after the initial wave. Depending on what they managed to license, I could see N64 continuing to get a game once every month or two for some time.

Great! This is the kind of news i love to see just waking up.

Now, to continue my long hate-love relationship with this game lol

Really excited to play this, N64 was a childhood system of mine but this game passed me by. Always heard good things about it so excited to finally get a chance to play this.

I've never played this and I see people talking about it a lot. Is it genuinely good? Or is this one of those meme hype situations (like Morbius)?
It's genuinely great.

You have to remember going in, this is early 2000s mid-90s 3d! But this is full-on, full-fat, NCL in-house developed, pure racing goodness.

They made the water feel so good.

It's only like 7 tracks, but damned if it's not supremely replayable just because it feels so good to play.

Oh and the music, mannnn 😚👌

Finally ! Loved this game back then and I often replay it on emulators. I’ll gladly play it on the Switch now :)

It's quite good. It's a little light on content compared to more modern racers, but the water physics, visuals, and soundtrack are all high quality.

At the rate they're going, they could just use the remnants of the Wii/Wii U VC to fill up a decent "Year 2" lineup for N64 NSO. Still hoping to see new stuff along the way though, like the missing Rare games.

Won't be coming, but I would love to see new Wave Race in the best possible graphics. Since I'm currently playing Xeno 3 and there are a lot of huge waters in the series in general, maybe race tracks and characters from other Nintendo franchises would be a way to market a new title. Or even Xeno - Racing 😬

Watching the trailer and the first thing that comes to mind was "Oh my god, this is where Mario Kart Wii got the idea of doing stunts off ramps from"

OK, this gives me great hope that the R&D general manager said many years that wave race will be coming back in one form or other. I think this could be the case and also given the fact we have learned that switch sports was in development before switch. Maybe wave race switch was wii u then moved to switch. I also would not be surprised if 1080 switch and pilotwings switch is in development.

Rumor is that, when Takahashi hinted at Wave Race coming back, Nintendo was actively prototyping with the IP. Unfortunately, it never went beyond the prototype phase. Could still be happening in the future of course (it's Takahashi's baby after all, he loves it) but the rumor says they dropped it.

That's only rumour that, plus it makes me wonder that given nobody had a clue that switch sports was getting developed at time of the console this could be the next secret development.

More than happy with this to dive into multiplayer with a friend. At least we'll be evenly matched; he'll rely on what muscle memory he has playing on a Switch Lite and I'll have the N64 controller playing it for the third time in my life (and the first time in nearly a decade)

Wave Race 64 has a genuinely great sound, which didn't happen too often on N64. Super catchy.

you know what other game also has a fantastic sound? f-zero x! nerd's still improving it's framerate right? right?

Great news. We just need Excitebike 64 and 1080 Snowboarding to complete the Nintendo racing catalogue.

Okay, thanks for the answers! I think I will play it once it's out.

Never played this one but I'm interested. Hopefully the emulation has no issues.

This chart makes me feel like Bomberman 64 and Bomberman Hero are on the way and therefore I deem it a great chart. Factual? Obviously. Great? Deemed.

Depends on how much Konami's willing to play ball. Technically they already are as we have some of their games on NSO EP like Castlevania Bloodlines and Contra Hard Corps over on the Genesis app.

The also did twinbee on Snes. So I think it’s down to a mix of how much Nintendo threw at them versus if they think there’s collection value(a much smaller influence on N64 games.
I’d probably expect one offs like Deadly Arts or Hybrid Heaven first but Bomberman, Castlevania and Goemon should be on the table.

I figured we were due another N64 racer and was hoping it'd be Wave Race. Perfect summertime game.

There just ain't much like it anymore, and yeah it is so very mid 90s in aesthetic and feel that I'm sure some of you are going to be nonstop cringing or whatever, but my gawd this game is such a damn mood.

Like ya'll aren't ready for how on the announcer is... just wait until you get your first "Banzaaaai!!!" lol

Damn. This announcement has lifted my spirits quite a bit. Friday can't come soon enough.

The whole game perfectly captures the optimism of the mid 90s. Computer technology was evolving rapidly, the sun was shining, music bopping, it was great!*

*For middle class people in the first world

never played either but it's weird how n64 wave race looks better visually than the gamecube one, at least stylistically.

Nintendo should stop wasting time and money getting Microsoft to put Rare's games on the service and pay Konami for Bomberman, Goemon and Castlevania instead.

If the ST subtitle for it isn't "Nice Water" I'll riot

What was the deal with the ads, they were edited out in the Wii U release? So they haven’t been in since the original N64 version?
Kawasaki Jet-Ski licensing. I think they got to re-license the usage again.

Makes me wonder about the inevitable 1080 Snowboarding relicensing.
