A New Nintendo Direct is on the way! Tune in Wednesday July 13 at 3pm ET for roughly 35 minutes of info on upcoming first-party Nintendo Switch Games.

  • Metroid Prime Remake Nov. 4
  • Mario Kart 8 Wave 2 launches immediately after the direct.
  • Splatoon 3 single player campaign trailer and confirmation of an August focused direct
  • Mario Strikers 1st update including Daisy, 2 new stadiums and gear, available in late July.
  • Bayonetta 3 release date trailer. Oct 14.
  • Pokemon Scarlet & Violet trailer and reveal of the region's name.
  • Mario Party Superstars DLC.
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3 final trailer and demo announcement released immediately after the direct.
  • Advance Wars 1+2 release Aug 5th on the eShop and physical will be available at a later date.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Seasons launches Sept. 30
  • Confirmation that we will see BotW 2 later this year.

I agree. The Direct was fine. Complainers are so entitled and probably have a giant stack of games sitting at home that they haven't even finished yet anyway.
If we're going by this metric then most people probably can't complain about a single gaming event for the rest of forever until the end of time

So do we have some thoughts already on the odd choice of not making this a general direct by throwing Prime Remastered and Bayonetta in there, as well as a Splatoon and Xenoblade reminder? Would’ve been a pretty solid Direct!

My best guess: Nintendo is shaking things up again, and rather than pushing it all out in one juicy direct they are aiming to keep the momentum high … which would mean first party stuff for Q4 in July.
One theory I have is that maybe there's a question mark about Bayonetta 3 making 2022. If the only unannounced first party game Nintendo have lined up for this year is Metroid Prime Remastered, then perhaps Nintendo decided a better strategy was to hang fire on the first party stuff and deliberately label it a partner direct so people didn't go 'hey where are the Nintendo games?' They could easily just do a first party mini to reveal Metroid, the Bayonetta 3 release date and update on currently released games in a month or so's time once they've locked their schedule down.

I would probably say it's best not to get your hopes up for anything first party related outside of Twitter/YouTube announcements until September, but when September does come, I'd expect them to lift the lid on what they have coming early 2023 in a big way

See I don't have a problem if you watched the direct and found nothing of interest. I question what kind of games you like if you found NOTHING in the direct, but that's fine some people have eclectic taste.

But how the fuck can you even look at a list of games, several of which are completely new ip, and decide "nothing for me here"? You don't even know what genre these games are, how are you so confident you wouldn't be interested in Blanc? Or Lorelai? Or Harvestella? It's literally impossible unless you watched the trailers.

The more I think about it, the more if feels like they took what would have been the normal June Direct, siphoned all the First Party stuff out of it, and tossed us the leftovers as a Mini, which just makes me resent it more.

Where's the rest of it

Yeah. My gaming has been trending downwards as of late. I got Mario strikers for the family to play. I got dragons dogma a couple weeks ago and seems like that isn’t for me. Looking for something good to play soon. Seems like October will be the month for me that I get something new.
Oh, i had those phases.
This year i had... Pokemon Lengeds, Kirby. Then nothing, and last week i bought Bloodstained while it was on sale. Its okay. Nothing that binds me to the console. on the other hand, i dont even have that much time, so...probably for the better.

Based upon what we know behind the scenes, yeeting out the first party stuff until their more confident isn't too crazy.

Everybody 1-2 Switch is apparently a unpopular disaster behind closed doors

Advance Wars 1+2 still has the Ukraine war to be sensitive about

Bayonetta 3 might not make 2022, and if it's not able should the already finished new Fire Emblem become a 2022 game instead of a 2023 game

Metroid Prime Remake is seemingly the only thing we know of Nintendo has cooking that is for sure ready to go this year.

I have to be honest: I do not understand the appeal of videos about Nintendo Directs that just recap the entire Direct in linear order of every single announcement with only the bare minimum interjections of "this looks interesting" or "I might check this out" or "not really my thing." Channels like RGT85 do this every single Direct and I just do not understand the point of that premise. It's fine if they want to just highlight the announcements that interest them but when they walk through it beat by beat you might as well just watch the Direct again at that point.

Is there anything pointing to Bayo 3 being delayed to 2023, or is it just speculation?

That would be really cool... please let it happen, but at this point we really just streching to get it...

There's nothing wrong with being disappointed in the showing, but let's please remember there's no need to be so hostile towards those who found it compelling, and particularly unreasonable to call them "delusional". - hologram, paranoodle, Donnie, Aurc
Post like this make me think people didn't even watch the direct. There were more new games announced today coming day 1 to switch then their were old ports.

New games we didn't know about before today coming day 1 on switch
Super Bomberman R2
Lorelai
Blanc
Doraemon Story of Seasons 2
Harvestella
Railgrade
Little Noah

New collections/remasters we didn't know about and will be day 1 on switch
Pac Man World Repac
Battle Network Legacy Collection

Games we knew about and are confirmed day 1 on switch
Return to Monkey Island
Persona 3P remaster
Captian Velvet
Disney Dreamlight Valley
Dragon Quest Treasure
Minecraft Legends
Sonic Frontier
Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak
Live A Live remake
Mario & Rabbids Sparks of Hope

Actually old ports
Persona 5R
Persona 4G remaster
Nier Automata
Rpg Time
Portal Collection (it's technically a new collection but these games have been available on other platforms for awhile)

Trying to say this direct was "nothing but ports" is disingenuous as best, outright fabrication at worst. You don't have to like everything announced or detailed today, but Switch is largely still getting new games from basically major 3rd party publisher in Japan. It doesn't say anything about the Switch being near the end of it's lifespan, if anything it confirms it's still in the middle of it.
I want to say my opinion on the new games you're listing but I will refrain from doing so because it's obvious where the conversation will go from there

but I will say this, of course the Switch will get these type of games lol , you may as well say "some third party video games indeed release on Switch" , doesn't mean the switch have interesting or good third party support lol you're delusional if you think that lineup is a sign of good third party support for a big console

and most importantly, most people consider the Showcase noteworthy because of the big "Ports",if Persona and Nier Ports were missing this would've been considered very uneventful and forgettable showcase, Wich show how uneventful these new games are ( am not saying they're bad btw their quality is not the main point)

There's zero need for this. It's grounded in an assumption that only certain kinds of games are worthwhile experiences, which automatically puts a barrier between you and other users; you're dismissing anything you're not interested in, which doesn't meet your criteria, as having no value.

And topping that off by calling people who might disagree, and who might be happy with the particular third party mix on Switch, "delusional" is just insulting. Maybe take a step back and rethink how you frame this.

Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if Metroid Prime HD is their only unannounced game this year. Maybe if they decide to release the 1 2 Switch sequel but that is most likely a Twitter drop. They might just wait until September for a general direct and just drop Metroid Prime on Twitter/YouTube along with a tree house video too.

All speculation at the moment.

Bayo 3 not being shown in the 3rd party event + Nier October when people expected Bayo 3 to release in October has made people start doom posting Bayo 3 delay
Ahhhh, okay. Since October seems pretty full atm (and the Nier port is releasing then), I could see Bayo 3 being the late September game imo. It's definitely too early for delay doomposting haha. Still holding out hope that the December slot is saved for mainline FE instead, which will be revealed in this hypothetical July first-party Direct lmao.

If opinions are like assholes, then you are like an opinion.

I am intrigued by Lorelai, Blanc, Return to Monkey Island, Mario+Rabbids and even Live a Live and Sonic Frontiers. Will keep an eye on them. Portal is a get now that gyro is confirmed. So I think it was a pretty good presentation.

That it was 3rd party only may tell us that maybe Nintendo don't actually have a notable release for the rest of the year. If that's the case, a partner showcase makes sense. If a Metroid Prime remaster is the height of the first party offering, it would be looked at as a lame general. Instead, they opted for a good partner showcase.

I think a lot of people put the cart before horse and think of games as fuel for directs rather than directs as tools to promote games. They won't want to have a direct for the sake of having a direct if there aren't games to promote, nor have the tail wag the dog and force a game to be presented when it's not time for it just so a direct can happen.

Calling people who disagree delusional isn’t needed. Go play some games.

We're probably looking at a Splatoon Direct in two weeks or so, right? Assuming they want to do playtests?

I worry about new FE.

I don’t think anything can top Three Houses for me lol, especially if they’re eliminating branching paths

I’ve only played two games in the series (Awakening and TH) and TH’s world was so much more captivating it’s not even funny

And it’s just been more enriched by Three Hopes as well

Three Houses' world is probably one of the best realized settings I've seen in a video game, which the branching paths help a lot with

That being said, I'm not too worried about the next FE. If rumors of A full free-roam overworld are true I think it'll be an interesting shakeup of the series

Some of you weren't around for the Wii and Wii U era and it shows. Third party support on Switch might not be the greatest but it's not bad by any means. ESPECIALLY given the specs of this hardware.

I wonder if they ever get around to making a native port, if the people who bought the cloud versions would be upgraded to it?
Nah, given how cloud games are handled. You're essentially buying the license from a middleman who's licensing the game from SE

Is there anything pointing to Bayo 3 being delayed to 2023, or is it just speculation?
Realistically? No, I'm on team "bayo 3 is already done and Nintendo is just deciding when to reveal the date and release it". I'm just spit balling on the one 1st party game that we know of that could slip. If you had made me bet on most likely to miss 2022 before yesterday I would have said Sparks of Hope before Bayonetta 3 and that would have been a mistake :p
Bayo 3 not being shown in the 3rd party event + Nier October when people expected Bayo 3 to release in October has made people start doom posting Bayo 3 delay
I feel people have been doom posting Bayonetta 3 for years, even after we got the trailer last year. I'll take doom posting over the never ending whining/port begging that followed Bayo 2 from announcement to release.

That was obviously just a normal direct with first-party stuff torn out. Easily the best partner showcase though I couldn't care less about most ports so it still wasn't great. I adore NieR Automata and P5R though, absolutely worth checking out for those that don't own other platforms

I'm definitely getting Pac-Man World Re-PAC (though I wish it was a little higher budget), M+R2 (though what they showed was honestly one of the most boring parts of this direct, almost nothing new after more than a year aside from bowser), Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection and Dragon Quest Treasures. Interested in Harvestella, RPG Time and Little Noah though I want to see some reviews first.

The Sonic showing didn't do much for me, especially after I heard some cyberspace levels were still 2D. And I'm excited for Monster Hunter and Live A Live but I didn't want to see new info on those games so close to launch

I'm absolutely baffled by the presence of a treehouse just for live a live though. There has to be something else coming soon

I've got good news for you

Okay. Okay. Maybe it’s just me and I am an Idiot most of the time.

But if there’s a 1st party direct.

Wouldn’t some Partners feel burned to being shoved aside to a smaller scale direct? Yes, the direct is getting favorable reception. But it wasn’t as “eventful” in the end and that helps(?) a lot for these games. Especially since it’s not live-streamed. I admittedly skipped ahead a few times in games I didn’t even give 2 seconds a chance on.

while we usually say, nintneod games will overshadow the rest of the games. Is that really true? I feel the more the direct is liked, the more smaller games still get noticed.

Granted. I’m not really arguing that this is a terrible idea. I’m just wondering if Nintendo’s partners are okay with this style, cause I do see some benefits. I think it’s an interesting discussion.

People deadass expect a console with PS3/X360 specs to run PS5/XBSX games and it's baffling. Or they expect Nintendo to abandon the affordable portable hardware model and chase after whatever the fuck Sony and Microsoft are doing. Whack.

I was wondering something on kind of the same note, the notion that this direct was because Nintendo had “made a deal to present third party games in June then E3 fell through,” implies that what we got today was like a monkey’s paw for developers thinking they were gonna get a big E3 direct presentation lol
