News Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase announced for June 28th

Its about time...

So I think as far as first party stuff goes, we are done for the year. Technically Bayonetta 3 and Mario Rabbids 2 are 3rd party partnerships, so we could see them here. Nintendo is pretty stacked for the rest of the year, so I think the next general direct will either be around the time of the game awards, or more realistically January.

Future 1st party directs will likely be focused similar to the Xenoblade 3 direct. We will likely have a dedicated Splatoon direct as one of them. The other will probably be Pokemon later in the year.

In this direct, I think we will see Persona 3/4/5 and possibly the long awaited Switch port of Genshin Impact (if it is even still coming). Sumeru expansion is right around the corner, so a Switch released timed with a new region would be the most likely scenario. I also think Astral Chain 2 being show to some degree is possible.

Just my predictions.

Yup, thinks of 3D All Stars
I guess the difference here is that Prime Remaster presumably isn't a limited time release, and it's had much longer in the oven than 3D All-Stars. September announcement isn't impossible, but personally I'd expect it be announced somehow in July; whether that's a Mini or a trailer drop or a new type of event (Nintendo Spotlight? Nintendo Direct: Spotlight? Nintendo Direct: We Finally Announce The Leaked Games?) I dunno.

Earliest point for a September Direct is the week following Splatoon 3, I guess.

A first party mini in July would actually make sense, we need news on the Mario Kart DLC, Switch Sports and Strikers updates, as well as the next wave of N64 games, add MP1 remastered, Zelda ports, Bayo 3 release date, and a Splatoon 3 trailer + separate direct announcement and that would fill a mini that would give enough updates carrying into September.

Yeah, I know I'm coming from a privileged perspective since I'm able to own a Switch and Xbox, but 3rd party on Switch generally does so little for me because of game pass. Can't get excited about Automata when it's been on Game Pass for like 2+ years. But Mario + Rabbids and any surprises have my interest
the novelty of being able to play old AAA games on the switch has worn off for me and most of the switch owners I know, especially considering how badly they tend to run. a used ps4 is far cheaper than a switch at this point, will run these games better, and said games will be cheaper there

there are of course games that suit the thing perfectly that I would prefer to play in handheld mode, but stuff like RDR2 and Nier are not in that category for me

Shout out to Grubb for actually putting his name and dates on stuff.

I'd be pretty surprised if we see a general direct before September. My thinking is -

- Nintendo wants to maximize their NSO Expansion Pack re-subscribes each year. The service launched last October 25th with N64, so they'll want to announce a big addition a few weeks ahead of subscriptions timing out to keep people in. Announcing GB/GBC (maybe GBA as well, but I'm not optimistic) in a September direct seems like a clear way to achieve this.
The only people who think this are enthusiasts. What will get people to resub each year & get more people on board are games that utilize online, stuff like Tetris 99, & adding dlc to the expansion pass.

They did 2 month marketing cycles for Paper Mario: The Origami King and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, so it’s certainly not out of the question.
as both games were released during 2020, I don't think they are good examples of mkt cycle, even though they were not too out there wrt pre-order dates and such

We thought Partner Showcases were exclusive to 2020 too, and yet here we are.

So probably

July Mini Direct for first party
August Direct for Splatoon 3
September General Direct
I'd be totally fine with this, but my main question would be... why? If they have a 25-minute third party direct ready for tomorrow, and they're going to do an (at least) 15 minute 1st party Mini in a few weeks or so, why would they not just combine them and do a normal General Direct? Especially since doing a 1st party Mini in July, when the September Direct is likely to be early September, feels very close together. As others have said, maybe new hardware related? Or is Nintendo just being weird for no reason?

If Nintendo are doing a Mini in July I'd expect it to happen in the first 2 weeks of the month. I don't see them dropping one close to Xenoblade Chronicles 3's pre-release marketing, when previews and then reviews are likely due.

If they 'only' have Splatoon 3 in September, then a Direct any time from September 13th onwards is possible as far as I'm concerned. 2023 has Zelda and nothing else and I think we'll get at least one or two more things confirmed before 2023 starts. Probably Fire Emblem.

Sounds like stuff that could've been put with 3rd party for a big General Direct? How does it make any sense to split them up?

Ironically, the 20th anniversary of Metroid Prime 1 is November 18th, same day that Pokemon releases.

Personally I thought they skipped the regular E3 window because they had two games out in June and saw no need to step on their own toes with further marketing announcements.

Who knows? It's likely something to do with Nintendo wanting to control the narrative. Perhaps by skipping a major E3 Direct, they can avoid showing any further out titles before they're absolutely ready (not only Zelda, but perhaps whatever EPD 8 and 10 are up to). I'm not sure Nintendo would feel 'pressured' into showing things specifically for E3, but certainly Zelda at E3 is something of an expected feature.

My wants:

  • Persona 3/4/5 on Switch
  • DQ Treasure information
  • Tactics Ogre reveal
  • Goldeneye????????????????????????????????????????????
  • More JRPG goodness

I'm expecting Nintendo to announce Metroid Prime Remastered this summer with a Twitter/YouTube drop. I can see the September direct being a late August direct instead if there's no Nintendo presentation in July.

It has to be depressing to develop third party games for Switch and then to read the reaction
Thing is, for most people most third party games on the Switch are either:
  • Late port of games they've probably already played, but with worse graphics and performance
  • Games that would be better-looking, performing, and possibly designed if they were released elsewhere
It's really not too surprising that people are disappointed by a Direct focused on them, even if there's a potential for good news. Of course if you're someone who sees a ton of value in portability then this is gonna be much better; but most don't see it similarly. Especially with the Steam Deck now also filling the "big 3rd parties on a handheld console" niche.

the cool thing about Grubb speculating about a first party Direct in July is that now you can start a new Direct Speculation thread the second the Mini Partner Direct ends tomorrow THE FUN NEVER ENDS

If Metroid Prime is targeted for November, maybe we get Fire Emblem in October.

I'm guessing it's more likely to come next year though.
Yeah unfortunately I think we're running out of space for FE. Might end up being a Spring/Summer 2023 title

If we get Prime Remastered, Bayonetta 3, and M + R 2, all of which seem fairly plausible, I think we're basically covered for the second half of the year

I feel like Nintendo is doing this because some games they wanted to show are or were just not ready, so they decided to split the stuff up and show games when they work best for their short marketing cycles.

Nier Automata on Switch? No way. I can't believe that lol.

Would be cool though (Even if I played it already)

Having more time in the spot light. Being in the headlights in June, again in July (probably), a Splatoon 3 Direct in August and close Summer with a September Direct (probably).

If you look at it, it's basically a page out of Sony's playbook ot very similar.

But that's the thing... If Nintendo plans to give Prime Remastered a decent marketing cycle and they plan to launch it in November, July would be the month to do it. September is just too close for an announcement. Unless they announce it on Twitter, which i doubt
Metroid's most recent games tend to get very short marketing cycles.

FE according to Nate wasn't a safe bet for CY 2022 but it was for FY 2022, it will probably be a Q1 release and in that case a Sept direct is where it would make sense for the game to be shown.

New Nate just dropped

A first-party Mini is all we would still need for 2022 releases. I said weeks ago I would be happy as long as I get Metroid Prime in 2022, and that still stands. Now I just want it to be announced ASAP!!

Nice to hear the info about Metroid Prime HD, but I'm starting to think that if a general Direct is not needed now, and the only first party games for the holiday seasson could be announced in a Mini Direct... We shouldn't be expecting a September general Direct, just small shows until a January/February general Direct where they can focus on 2023 big games, like BotW2, Mario 3D, etc.
This is my opinion based on what we know at the moment.

Metroid's most recent games tend to get very short marketing cycles.

Dread got four months though. 2 months for MP Remastered doesn't look likely, even for a remaster, and much less if it's part of a long-term campaign of releasing all the original Prime games. SSHD got 5 months. Unless they announce it on a Twitter drop, i still believe in a summer first-party direct

Yeah there's a ton of potential here. FF Pixel Remastes? Maybe even something else from Atlus, like EO or SMTV DLC or something? Silksong!

I'm assuming M+R2 is a lock. Could there be something even like Bayonetta 3, depending on how you define 3rd party?

Haha, welp. People are not gonna be happy about this Direct, regardless of its actual contents.

I think I'll just wait to see what is announced and watch the individual trailers for the things I'm interested in. Hate to be That kind of Nintendo Fan, but I'm mostly interested in first party reveals. Not even Mario + Rabbids is enough!
