Respectable take, but I find Mario 64's movement and level design significantly better. Fludd has its moments for sure (and I still like Sunshine) but aside from the hotel level and theme park, I don't remember many. And I grew up with both the N64 and Gamecube.

Fair point though if you're talking about camera controls and such on 64. And Delfino Isle is a banger hub world.
Yes.

Even as a kid, I felt that Super Mario 64 also looked ugly.

I also felt that Sunshine had more "character" to it. Like, I could define who Mario and Peach and Bowser were as characters, if you get what I mean.

But yes, there was definitely a queasiness factor to Super Mario 64.

(Not sure if this is worthy of its own thread, but wanted to have some fun, so general it is. Mods, please delete if this isn't appropriate.)
What is your favorite Mario game and why is it Mario Odyssey?

how cool is Chris Pratt?

Waiting to see if the direct happens and if there’s any shadow drops, but barring that my current sale to consider list is:
Kotor
Child of Light
Legend of Mana

Tho open to it if anyone wants to sell me on the latter two. The Taiko series tempts me but I’m not that motivated on it

Why is Super Mario Sunshine the worst 3D Mario?
Why is Super Mario Sunshine the best 3D Mario?
Oh, we are getting spicy, I love it.

I'm gonna come down and say Sunshine is the worst, but I think a lot of it isn't the minute to minute play of Sunshine that gets me to that opinion. Mario is fluid and controls well, and while I don't really care about using FLUDD as a water gun, it's a great additional movement tool. But I think that Sunshine's structure is weak. It moves away from 64's freedom, where any star you collect can matter to you getting to the end of the game, and instead goes, "Do specifically these missions to get to Bowser." Every optional mission only matters if you're going for 100%. So Blue Coins? All those red coin challenges? Any optional challenge in Delfino Plaza? All pointless to completion. And I just don't like that kind of design. Meanwhile if you are a completionist (which I am, and it colors my Mario opinions), the blue coins are miserable to track unless you use an outside source and some of those optional missions are questionable. I also find that Yoshi is woefully underutilized, definitely a missed opportunity there.

Of course, if none of that matters to you, if you enjoy Sunshine's mechanics and just choose not to engage with the completionist aspects and just do what's fun for you, then you can focus on Sunshine's positives, like the aforementioned movement, the better camera over 64, and the tropical theming of Isle Delfino. Sunshine being the worst is like being an 8 out of 10, still a pretty good game but with issues (on a bad day it can be like a 7, though).

...Corona Mountain sucks either way, though. Terrible level.
Why is super Mario 64 the best classic Mario?
I don't think that it is (it's competing with both 3 and World which are both GOAT tier games), but it does feel like the natural progression of ideas and structure from 3 to World to Yoshi's Island. Like the culimation of a more open structure in a fresh and bold 3D World. That counts for something, I'd say.

Odyssey is also a contender for best Mario game. Fantastic movement, with most of the captures giving you even more ways to explore these diverse sandboxes. Each Kingdom is an excuse to explore a new aesthetic, have more worldbuilding, and lots of new captures, and they're balanced in that you get a mix of larger open areas and more focused, smaller levels. Almost every one is a winner. Not to mention all of the great costumes you can get. After Mario spent the better part of a decade going smaller in scale (not always to the franchise's detriment as 3D World shows, but it definitely was there), Odyssey was a grand breath of fresh air that felt celebratory of the series while still pushing new ground. I understand the complaint of "filler moons," but 1) it never bothered me while playing and 2) every moon can matter to progression, unlike Sunshine's mess of optional shines. I really want to play this one again, it's one of the few main Super Mario games I haven't completed twice.

People have likened it to Banjo-Kazooie, and I can see it. But as someone who played a bit of Banjo but didn't really stay interested enough to keep going, it feels like the kind of world structure and worldbuilding of Banjo but with the much more fun and interesting movement of Mario.

Why did 2 Paper Mario games make me cry, and did any PM games elicit an emotional response from you? (Bobbery in TTYD, Bobby in TOK for me. Damn Bob-Ombs!)

I actually don't cry much for games, specifically. The only one that got me to cry was the true ending of Undertale. Really gotta play Deltarune chapter 2...

But in terms of emotional responses in general, both in the moment and in hindsight? Yeah, those Bob-ombs get to me (Bobby less, but that's because I was spoiled on it before I saw the scene for myself, it's still well executed and it really got my friend who I watched play Origami King). I also find Vivian's story very moving (trans rights are human rights!), and the general atmosphere of PM64 can genuinely be described as my comfort place. I need to play it again, it's been almost a decade since my last play.

Why does the Ice Land of Mario 3 seem so much more atmospheric and trigger heavier nostalgic reactions than the other lands in the game?

It isn't.

It's better than Super Mario 64.

I can barely even play Super Mario 64 anymore. Hell, it makes me queasy, no joke.
I replay Mario 64 once a year. I love that game so damn much. Movement just feels so good, and the worlds are so charming ❤️

Chris Evans is NOT hot but I want whatever you're smoking
I have several friends who would jump you for saying this

Any hotness evaporates under shitty political beliefs. That's a big turn off, you gotta understand that. I am okay with "Which Chris is hotter" being the hottest take here, though.

...Hemsworth is probably the overall winner, now that I think about it. Funny and charismatic.

Two things come to mind:
1) Harder stages can be the most memorable sometimes. I feel that way about New Super Mario Bros., Worlds 7 and 8 are the ones I remember the clearest.

2) That world map music. Mysterious and foreboding, perfect for the kind of world it is.

Looking at this makes me realize how much I love hack n' slash games.

Anyone else a fan? Not just of the Koei Tecmo games, but in general?

you summarized Odysseys strengths pretty good. Completely agree on all your points!

I want a regular party-based RPG set in Fodlan and neighbouring lands. Too tired to ask nicely, so I'll just leave that statement out there, floating in the ether.

Yeah, Omori is something I'd give a go if a) I weren't various kinds of exhausted and b) I had more gaming time.

I might pick up Elechead because I don't think I've bought an indie game so far this year and I like supporting them.

So just to confirm I am making ST10, right?

If so... I have a thread title idea. Don't worry. It's gonna be great.

(The thread itself will look much worse than this one lol. You did a great job, @Irene :D)

Oh hell!! I forgot July is almost here. 🤣

How tough is it, emotionally ? Wanna play it but don’t know if I can handle it right now
it's very emotionally heavy and i'm only halfway through the game I think, it contains depictions of depression, anxiety, suicide and others.
I recommend you to be in a much better mood before playing it. There really is no game like Omori and I'm having one the best experience in my life right now but yeah, you have to be prepared. It's definitely not for everyone.

Man, 3DS DLC downloading is such a miserable fucking experience. I’m slowly trying to get all DLC for certain games before the Eshop closes and it’s about 30 min of clicking through each tiny little DLC item on the in-game shops, then going through the 3DS’ purchase and download pages, then waiting for the in-game menu to load up again after each purchase. The atlus games are especially bad. Just kill me.

The whole social thing brings it down imo. Three Houses characters are among the worst in FE history and I really don't want to interact with them. I just want to slice & dice human beings peacefully.
That's... a take. One of the most consistent things you usually hear about Three Houses is how much the characters draw you in and identifying with a lot of them, loving tea parties/etc. and seeing how everyone grows through the support convos. Or at least, that's what I usually hear, granted it's mostly from people who really like the game.

Yeah, the only other FE game I’ve completed is Awakening and as good as those characters are, they have nowhere near as much substance as any of the 3H characters.

Well, I've heard it both ways. People who actually loved the characters and people who cannot stand the school setting. I'm one of the latter. Even with time skip, all the characters are kids, students. Their personality vary but in the end they're all very young school attendants. The whole tea party and stuff tried to humanize them before sending them off to war to kill people. I'm a little disgusted by that (just like I was by Valkyria 2). And then there's setting ambiguity that makes it hard to invest in them. All of them feel like modern era characters but somehow this is a medieval era story. With swords and all.

But it seems like the next FE is gonna be something I'll like. We already have an old timer knight with a full beard. I missed those.

Please share your opinion on the Kleptoads.

Three Hopes isn't grabbing me as much as I had hoped it would. I probably will only do the one House/route instead of all three like I did with Three Houses. The game just makes me want to play Three Houses again tbh. Oh well it gives me more Bernie.

Edit: Spirit Farer though is holding my attention. It'll probably take me longer than the 20 hours the how long to beat says is the main story though.

AI:NI is already pretty interesting, and I'm liking the new mechanics and ideas so far. And I haven't even gotten to the first "OMG WTF" moment that I'm sure will come, nobody does those better than the Zero Escape team

Thanks for the positive news. Interestingly enough, the red wolf conservation and repopulation effort began at point defiance zoo in Tacoma, WA.

is it true that Luigi was briefly a teenage skinhead due to a combination of peer-pressure and not knowing what a skinhead was? and that the horrible things he saw that week shattered his fragile psyche, manifest in the ghosts that haunt him to this day?
